I play battlefield and modern warfare a lot. And I mean a lot!! Doesn't wanna make me go fucking kill somebody, especially my parents! The more a person's brain is exposed to this "virtual" reality, the more he is being programmed to act similarly in the real world (Even his dreams are about killing). In life, we become what we yield our minds to.

@RDmLabel Not everyone who plays violent video games will end up killing someone, but it's undeniable that watching violence makes people more likely to become violent than if they didn't watch such things. Read up on the longitudinal studies involving randomized samples of people who grew up watching violence vs those who didn't. The effects are clear.
That being said, I was in a couple of fights myself growing up and i play violent video games, but i haven't killed anyone...yet.
I believe that playing seriously violent games for days on end can trigger temper outbursts (when the player gets killed too many times) but thats no reason to go to such an extreme as to get a gun and kill your own mother who obviously recognised those temper outbursts and tried to stop them by removing the game from him in order to keep the peace. 23yrs was not enough time in my opinion.
@Supportahol That's also highly dependent on who plays the video game. People with addictive personalities could feel these effects and may have outbursts of anger and/or angst. Many people stop playing video games due to them being annoyed. That is a reason why Halo: Reach isn't currently doing so well (about 100k players a day, compared to MW3 which has well over 700k), and why CoD: World at War suffered for the same reason.

I pity the young man because he will forever have his mother's death on his conscience. His father is a real decent guy (a REAL Christian), who loves his son unconditionally. I never had such a dad as that, and it makes me doubt that the son was held to a higher moral standard, and that this contributed to his "acting out." He was human. He was exposed (day in and day out) to something that programmed his imperfect brain toward violence. It could have just as easily been drugs or gang influence.

In this case, a game where the player shoots harmless bullets into virtual images is interpreted by the brain as a real experience (proved by the adrenaline rush which causes the heart to beat faster). The more a person's brain is exposed to this "virtual" reality, the more he is being programmed to act similarly in the real world (Even his dreams are about killing). In life, we become what we yield our minds to.

@RDmLabel Not everyone who plays violent video games will end up killing someone, but it's undeniable that watching violence makes people more likely to become violent than if they didn't watch such things. Read up on the longitudinal studies involving randomized samples of people who grew up watching violence vs those who didn't. The effects are clear.
That being said, I was in a couple of fights myself growing up and i play violent video games, but i haven't killed anyone...yet.

I believe that playing seriously violent games for days on end can trigger temper outbursts (when the player gets killed too many times) but thats no reason to go to such an extreme as to get a gun and kill your own mother who obviously recognised those temper outbursts and tried to stop them by removing the game from him in order to keep the peace. 23yrs was not enough time in my opinion.

@Supportahol That's also highly dependent on who plays the video game. People with addictive personalities could feel these effects and may have outbursts of anger and/or angst. Many people stop playing video games due to them being annoyed. That is a reason why Halo: Reach isn't currently doing so well (about 100k players a day, compared to MW3 which has well over 700k), and why CoD: World at War suffered for the same reason.
This kid probably had angst and rage stored from another output.
