its not useless, those movements they do is to realize that you only use your core and be rediculous strong.
even a small girl can lift a tall big guy with just a simple technique.. everything they do is based on holding on a katana. they move like they are dodging and attacking with an sword. Aikido came from samurais, they were there roots and do samurais were useless? thats up 2 u.
@Pindad0p The samurai didn't use Aikido, they used Jujutsu. Aikido is a watered down version of jujutsu joint locks mixed with a bullshit passive philosophy. Aikido practitioners don't use hard sparring, they don't use realistic situations and the co-operate completely with eachother - Aikido is nothing more than ballet with a veneer of martial arts. I'd bet on someone with six months of BJJ and Muay Thai over someone with ten years of Aikido.
@Pindad0p aikido came from aikijutsu do your homework before you comment. Training in traditional martial arts should give us two things, physical capability to defend ourselves as well as show peace to this world. martial arts isn't all about fighting.
If a guy comes after you just deck him. If you don't knock him out he'll keep coming then you can use your aikido. Usually guys will stand at a ready position then they'll insult you but they'll never run and grab your hand. Try picking your nose or scratching your chin so your hand is ready in front of your face while not looking too agresive
@DonSelvitella The hand-grabbing attacks in aikido are a remnant of samurai jujutsu. A samurai would attack with a hand grab to prevent his target from drawing a sword. We keep these attacks in modern aikido because they provide an easy way to learn techniques that can later be applied to more realistic attacks
@lamarzocco87. Completely agree with you, but you have to admit that at this opportunity for a master to share his skills, his presumed "opponents" are not even trying. In my personal opinion, aikido used in real life situations is where a true self master's art is truly seen.
Hahah at comment "aikido is not self defence" well you would be about the only person that thinks this. I can personally vouch for it i have used it in many many situations. You are quite right tho it is an art. Because they look to be "acting" doesn't mean they are. The giving into the techniques is purely because if you didn't you would break just about every bone in your arm and hand.
It's not self defense It's just art. 2 parners acting technique to make it look nice. It's like Taido, just playing and have fun. If you want realistic and best self defense go do boring Krav Maga. I rather pick Aikido because I live in safe country.
Many say the same about taichiquan or bagua... But those are often the ones who say that sports like karate or boxing are martial art.
Aikido is "the essence of budo".
The aim is not to destroy an opponent, it is to take control and harmonize the connection you have with a partner.
I have also used it multiple times and must say that you often don't even have to fight. Most people who want to act violently give up very fast if they can't land a hit and trip often enough.
@FinalKenny2 "Aikido is 'the essence of budo'." No, it's not. Let's compare Musashi Miyamoto and Tsunetomo Yamamoto for a second. The bushido means something completely different for both of them. Musashi's views are very brutal, while Yamamoto is an advocate of talk. Reason is that perspective changes over time. Musashi lived in a turmoil while Yamamoto had a peaceful life. This also has influence on the techniques. If you look at Aiki techniques back then, their aim was to kill the other guy.
@FinalKenny2 "simply quoting Ueshiba. :)" Ah, ok. I see. My bad. Sorry. I didn't know that. But I still don't quite agree, even though I think I understand Ueshiba's sentiments, after experiencing WWII a bit.
@GaolisVideoLog Sure. I guess the true essence of budo or martial arts themselves lie in every individual martial artist. Maybe Ueshiba understood "Aikido" as some sort of "universal" essence. He did have a very profound picture of love.
"The art of peace."
It was probably a more philosophical statement that a technical one. Especially because he didn't bind "Aikido" to the MARTIAL art, but to life itself.
Kobayashi ryu is associated with Hirokazu Kobayashi (deceased). This is Yasuo Kobayashi (aikikai) who is now 73 yo, I think. His son Hiroaki is also active in aikido.
Aikido is more of a self-defense-oriented martial art as you see here, while Hapkido has more differences to it (punch, kick, "wrestle" ect.) - Search for King of Hapkido.
I have problems choosing between Hapkido or Kung-Fu :p
Aikido is fun to learn, since in different sports you learn how to be hard. Here you learn how to be hard and soft at the same time. You can punch, but you can also lead someone to the ground and lock him where you want too ..
There seems to be a misunderstanding: The person demonstrating in the video is Kobayashi Yasuo, who is indeed a Shihan of the Aikikai. Kobayashi Hirokazu, the founder of Kobayashi Ryu and teacher to Giampetro Savegnago, had already passed away before this embukai was happening. Still, this here is a "real" Kobayashi Sensei ;-)
Blending with uke's attack always tends to make it look like a dance. However, I have trained with 2 of Kobayashi Shihan's instructors & I experienced 1st hand how good his aikido really is. I have been manuevered around the mat in 'slow motion' and was completely helpless to do anything other than follow their lead. Skill isn't demonstrated by how much impact you meet the ground with, but by how much control Tori has in delivering you to the ground.
stupid shit about all the aikido demonstrations is that they do it soooo slow that it just looks like some stupid dance. If they do it fast as it should be and as it is used in training and so forth, then it would look much more effective, which it is if trained properly.
Believe me , or not but I was there, and one of the uke is from of of my Aikido groups in Taiepei. I never liked Kobayashi's Aikido, but i had a chance to practice with him, and guy is really great!
'Aikido is so stupid' of course expresses some sort of opinion. But if you do think so about Aikido, why do you bother watching videos of it and writing redundant comments?
its funny to see retards whim and give retarded comments about whichever art is stronger than which...

What an utterly useless martial art. I'd love to see some Judo blackbelt come in and destroy the turd.

@coesan21
There are different styles of aikido:
Aikikai Aikido founded by Morihei Ueshiba after WW2
Ki Aikido founded by Koichi Tohei after he had a lesson from Morihei Ueshiba
Aikijitsu or Aikibudo also founded by Morihei Ueshiba in the 20,30's .
And where do you base your argument on that i've said martial arts is about fighting?
it is true that it gives you the physical capability to defend yourself, but dont forget about the mental, emotional, and spiritual part.

It's not Kobayashi ryu.....
Simply because the guy looks more the floor then uke and the surrounding...
Kobayaashi was use to say:
Don't look down you know that down there's a math...
Savegnago is Savegnago and that's it.
Jacek wysocki is in my opinion so frontal that is almost opposite to the defilated posture that's on the basics of Kobayashi ryu.
Jacek is a student of Savegnago and not a student of Kobayashi......
