Now that's how a horse should be ridden. I hope the judges start to reward correct horsemanship and a relaxed horse. A lovely prospect for the future :)
So lovely! A horse which does not whip its tail, a horse in front of the vertical line, at horse with at light concact to the bit and a lovely extended trot where the legs follow each other.
And i just love and Richard does not get angry over the fails the horse makes.
This kind of ridning should be rewarded - not those horses with whipping the tail, and extended trot where the horses legs are different places and the front legs almost smashes up in its head!
the thing that i love about this test is that there ARE mistakes, but Richard just continues to ride the test, he doesn't worry the horse. like when he is about to do his first trot half pass and Artemis canters then walks, Richard is so quiet and lets him sort himself out. he also pats him to reasure and praise him several times throughout the test. i also don't think the horse is beyond the vertical at any one point during this test, which is nice to see :) and very impressive one-times!
So lovely to see that Elton John allowed his song to be used in equestrian sport! I also like that they mentioned the arranger at 2.11. If more great musicians get involved it will allow the sport to increase in popularity.
This is an inspirational ride. If it's possible to feel the energies of the rider through a video, it certainly made me feel relaxed. You could tell that Artemis, young at the time, was nervous and looking around. Yet, Richard didn't push or pressure him, he rode with a soft and feeling reasurance that visibly calmed the horse through the ride.
This is certainly my cup of tea. I'll take this over the "best" riders any day.
I LOVE IT , it's not perfect but i like how he is with his horse, he is one and that is so beautyfull, i love it a lot and the music is very beautyfull! ( i'm dutch , my english is not good )
@vixitrixalina I think that I mistook him for being dun/ buckskin because its a video and some times I have a hard time distinguishing color of a horse on a computer screen
I believe the difference between dun and buckskin is that a dun horse will have a dark stripe down the center of the back and a buckskin doesn't but I can't remember
@watersprite91 yeah i can see what you mean - in some lights he looks paler, but i think its because he's had a full clip.
im not sure about the black dorsal stripe - my friend has a dun pony but i dont think she has the stripe. i always thought it was the american/english term for the same thing. like painted and coloured. not sure about that :P
@vixitrixalina in every horse book I have ever read and to all the horses that I have see Dun and buckskin are different we would probably use one word if buskin and dun were the same color but American English is weird like that
Very respectful ride! He seems to be a very well trained 9 year old with a bright future! He actually seems to be enjoying himself! An Absolute Pleasure to watch!!
Hi everyone, we were lucky enough to film more interviews with top dressage riders at the Exquis dressage masters at Hickstead, go to the main site to view them all!
Absolutely stunning horse and incredible performance. Dressage is a wonderful discipline, and was so beautifully performed in this clip. Amazing that this was the horse's first performance at this level! Congratulations Richard Davidson and Artemis!
lovely to see a modern dressage comp with a horse not behind the vertical, pricked ears, quiet tail, no stress sweat, calm and no see sawing on his mouth - kinda like the good old days!!!
I think the horse did his very best and did a great job for a horse this age on this level. I love his riding and the way how he praises the horse throught the test.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
his piaffe was everywhere yes he said he was young but this is a disgrace he got that score he did !!! he was not straight down to salute and the horse was NOT standing square he had cut corners!!! he did horribly with the passage and piaffee leading to the standing halt ridciulous but i would like to see another 9yr old horse do the same hats off to that but not at the olympia!!
look- my dressage horse is 10 and is working at medium- a 9 year old doing Grand Prix is ridiculously amazing! how dare you slag off this pair- they are amazing and it was Artemis's first show at this level! he's a real baby and the crowds, lights, music, the journey there, its all very strange for a young horse. his piaffe was very nice- he was tense at first but Richard praised him and gave him confidence. go home and make a video of yourself doing this on your school pony- i'd love to see it!
oh shut your mouth jump in a corner and have a sook oki :) i dont care for your thoughts and what YOU think but if you looked at it closely maybe you wouldnt be so omg hes so famous arghhhh hes way cool kinda girly crap grow up everyone has their shit days but i would have preferd him to show a better one then he did i never ever once said i could do better infact i hate dressage but i know the rules so stick it
wow its a shame you hate dressage- its a fact that all horses needed at minimum asic dressage training to be able to do just about anything really, and i think dressage is the ultimate of great riders and horses- not saying im great at it, i only started in october, but if you dont like it, you obviously shouldnt ride. i have watched this video closely several times, and my trainer personally knows Richard and is a good friend of his, and even has a photo of her and Artemis in her house! x
Shame on you. This pair obviously has a big future ahead of them- the horse is 9, thats phenomenal! He'll just get better with age. Your comments are a disgrace.
Dear horsecrazieneigh, I absolutely understand what you are trying to say, many refuse to discuss what is wrong with today 's " modern/competition "dressage, the extreme abuse of the horses at so many levels, the big ego riders who chase fame and fortune, the horses pay a very high price .... many things need to be changed for the sake of the horse. Thank you for standing up and having the courage to speak up out loud . Dressage is not all warm and fuzzy as some of the comments make it to be
hmmm I thought to myself this sounds like a very young person who hasnt been around for a long time and probably only knows "modern flashy" dressage and lordy I was right!! lol
Foto and Richard did a great job at Olympia, this was the first outing for Richard and Foto in a big venue like Olympia. Even so Foto had seen many big venues ( AAchen oder Worldchampionship in Verden ) and has won GP with Evi. It is still a big challange to figure out each other in a big indoor show like this.Richard gave Foto a confident ride which is importen for the horse. I m so thrilled how well Foto goes for Richard and Im sure he will be very successfull with him. Good Luck
I would agree. Although foto is a new ride for richard, he does indeed ride differently to evi. I am very disappointed with the judging. Richard and Foto did not deserve the score he did and this does nothing to help the sport in the end. This is not to say that once he gets to know the horse better that things will not approve but there were others who had far better tests that did not score that high. Foto is a good horse though and hopefully richard will get to know him over winter.
i was amazing- a few hiccups here and there, but that can be expected from a 9 year old, plus it was Arties 1st outing at this level! well done- some great music there :)
reminds me of spirit when he went to the camp lol :)

watersprite91 2 years ago
@watersprite91 he is actually dark bay! i'm not sure where the dun comes from lol :L he looks very much like the horse i ride - same age too!
also, aren't buckskin and dun the american and english version of the same colour? x

It´s a very big show and maybe too early for a green horse like Artemis, only 9!!!
However, an excellent and ellegant piece of music and fantastic choreography.
