I read about European solar, particularly in Germany, They put solar on homes and generate most of their needs from that. It's our good old American greed thing in play here. Let's think about practicality, rather than greed, and just get the job done. Putting solar on homes covering 100 miles, LA can generate enough electricity to supply the entire US. We could then sell the excess electricity and reduce costs for our rate payers. Somehow, common sense has been taken out of the equation.
If DWP would simply give the homeowners a free solar system, YES I MEAN FREE!, this would help the consumption of those filthy carbon created electrons coming through the wires, yes? Consumers could pay it off in the long term. Instead of a high price electric bill, we could pay a small priced solar bill, till the system is completely paid off? There are DC run HVAC available.
DWP confuses low rates with efficiency. DWP rates are lower because it does not pay taxes; is able to issue low cost municipal bonds; has a high proportion of coal fired power; has not funded $7 to $10 billion of deferred maintenance, IT and retirement obligations; offset in part by the IBEW Labor Premium that increases our energy service charge by about 15% to 20% and the massive subsidies paid to City Hall.
