He beat Hulk Hogan on the 6/2/02 edition of what was then Thursday Night Smackdown to become the #1 contender for the Undisputed title at KOTR 2002. Then he beat the Taker on the June 20th edition of SD..it was the SD after the KOTR I think. B/c after that, he went to RAW. Which opened space for Rock & Angle to become #1 contenders going in to Vengeance

The WWE was a bit dry that year to me. Triple H was the best thing RAW had going as far as established Heat because his character comes off as just a gigantic A-hole! I think that's why after regaining the belt from HBK in 12/02, he held the belt until Goldberg challenged him. No Faces strong enough to convince the boss that they were a better idea than HHH as champ. The shows were very entertaining but no strong 'Faces on RAW, HBK had the belt for a month, and I never felt RVD would beat HHH.
