One way to discover backmasking is to listen to a song and check out the lyrics (just google it) and if you notice that a word or a sentence is pronounced strange, load up the song in Audacity (or another audio-managing program) and reverse it. You have to listen very carefully though, backmasking can be really hard to catch.
