  • awww-i thought the instructor would play the jerry lee lewis rhythm with his feet...or at least light the piano on fire...bummer :(

  • It just dosen't make since to me no matter what I do I seem to get off when I change beats. You got to have some other way to understand this timing.

  • why is it all blues?

  • Great drills for coordination and proper fingering of baselines. Thanks for this! Sub'd. ;o)

  • thanks for this.....it is also helpful for practicing fingering ....for use when learning /practicing a new piece of music. I am sure patterns emerge over time that eventually will become inheritant in ones playing....?

  • The patterns are a basic foundation and show fingering. Once you learn the patterns you like you can use your imagination and that results in your creative genius... but it doesn't mean anyone will like what one plays!

  • I really *hate* all these ''standards" in music. They keep making the music so repetateive. Basicly in my idea, if more people use the same chord pattern, and especially how it' is played, it will sound so much alike. Music needs to be fresh..and it should not be about repeating what has been done 1000''s of times before..Oh man...

  • @PowerRedBull Why don't you make some fresh music? Anyway, what did you expect to see when you clicked on a video that says '10 STANDARD left hand patterns' ?

  • @vra456

I actually make fresh music..but mostly just for fun..and i tend not to finish things, once i get new ideas..lol

  • @PowerRedBull I Partly agree, but like myself, i'm learning how to play the boogie with my lefthand, and this is great material to learn those patterns. If i master all these patterns, i'm ready to use my imagination and change those patterns to my liking..

This way i'll be able to make "fresh" music :) but first... master the basics!

  • Loved It ! Do you have a video of the right hand pattern? If you do please post it. Thanks Your student in Piano

  • I want to learn this

  • Great video! Thanks a ton!

  • this is one excellent video.............

  • i think classical piano better than blues sounds

  • @Scooterskiff I can't post an URL here but if you search for YGSGH on facebook you will find a posting that includes an URL to a page that you may find to be helpful in understanding the right hand pattern

  • I played the rythym without the bass to try and see where Im wrong on the timing, one thing seems is I change my rythym or don't know when to go to the next chord, but why can't I play the parts together just to start, yes I know I need lots of practice but to practice doing the wrong thing is wrong itself right. I feel nuts.

  • @ronofmusic1 just keep practizing an tap your foot....it will come

  • Kool, grooves I just can't understand the timing to play them together one hand at a time no problem but the timing throws me every time very frustrating, I looked at this a year ago and gave up on it cause I couldnt understand the right hand now I just need to know what beats they come in and play together the first beat seems like it comes in on the two or an up beat its driving me bannanas please explain.?

  • very great...... liked (:

  • that bumble boogie is a bitch

  • What about right hand. Can not work it out.

  • Is that piano tuned..? I am sitting with a keyboard, and it just sounds awful together

  • ROcks!

  • good day. your video is one of the firsts i browse in the net. i am a 40 yr old housewife from the Philippines. my husband recently bought an organ/keyboard for my kids but we cannot afford for their lessons. we are Christians and ur video "amazing grace" sounds easy, we hoped we cud master it. cud u make more songs? "Lead me Lord" , perhaps?? thank you and God bless.

  • slow it down a bit

  • Thanks. But I'd love to see one of these covering something other than boogie, rock, or blues. Something a little less Charlie Brown and more modern-sounding.

  • thx man !

  • Blues, right?

  • thanks for this tips...very useful in my interest to play varied style.

  • lucille left hand pattern is the background music for paper boy i think hahahaha

  • Thanks for the tip!

  • i can play the left and right hand but I CANT PUT THEM TOGETHER :(

  • @IIISanCHEZYIII I can't put it together either, but I am a beginner. I was told that I just need to practice.

  • @IIISanCHEZYIII

try practicing one part until you can hold a conversation while playing. Then you can add in the other part. Good luck!

  • @IIISanCHEZYIII

PRACTICE painfully slowly at first - I mean PAINFULLY slowly. Then speed up gradually. It takes time and practice but you can do it.

  • sorry, i dont know how to play right-hand.

  • damn:D i love the way, you move your hands! and i like the melody, yo've been playing with you right hand!

  • we need Randy Newman and then we're all set!

  • awesome stuff, just learning piano and this is the sort of practice one needs to get good left and right hand isolation happening, very good disapline, just a comment to those who find this a little difficult to follow, go find a more suitable level to start with then come back.

    thanks again.

But thanks for the tips. I have always wanted to play some 'blues' music. Thx. again - I can't get over how great this video is...

  • Is this blues or boogie?

  • @Mlindos I was wondering also.

you mean to tell me ragtime is from country???

  • left is quite easy.... but right thats the hardest

  • @neushaar649 How long does it take to be able to play a walking line or something with the left and do whatever melodys with the right? In a easy boogie style that is?

  • Hi! It's the best tutorial!! I really liked it!

  • its my birthday and we are drinking beer and trying to learn your cord patterns thank you

  • I just have to learn how to play the melody that is played over these left hand patterns. Does anyone have or know where I can get a midi file or sheet music for this lesson? I haven't figured out how to contact anyone at the web site... Does anyone know how? Thanks larry

  • MetalSwede must practice both hands separately for considerable timespace until coordination comes naturally. If it don't fit don't force it. If it fucks fill it.

  • God i would love to be able to do that :D but every time i put my right fingers down, my left fingers wanna come down on the keys as well, and vice versa. They are very interdependent. It screws up everything and i just can't get past it. :(

  • get rid of the stupid bud light ad

  • A question for anyone out there that plays boogie woogie piano. What should I be using to play the basic shuffle pattern 1? I mean, should I mainly be using my fingers or the keeping my fingers more locked and using my forearm as well?

  • hehe, sounds different on the digital, like untuned,,,

  • that sound like that old time music i almost got up and did a jig i love it

  • man this is really good...thank you

  • That is really very helpful. I appreciate it a milllion

  • 10 great left hand patterns for the piano... once i see the first bar of the twelve bar blues how you've used it for the left hand, i can tell what the other 11 bars will have with the left hand, since the pattern is the same for the 1, the 4, and the 5 (in this case, C, F, and G); great video.

  • You make it look so easyyyy.. xD Gonna practice the first 2 ones, lol. Gonna fave this so I could get back to some more. :D Thanks! :)

  • Thumbs up for the washing machine in the background.

  • i am a beginner, your hands are so wonderful...so relaxed playing the keys..

  • @Bagaois10 Sure they're relaxed but the fingers aren't curved live they should be

  • amazing!!! thank you very much :)

  • can somebody tell me the right hand notes?.. anybody.. plz.. NIKKIONES would u?

  • A closer view of the keyboard would improve this video 100 percent

  • I teach piano and I'm definately going to refer my students to this video.

  • Awesome job, I especially liked the history lesson on where the styles came from. I bet you would do a great job on a walking bass tutorial. Maybe you already have, I'll go looking. Thanks so much!

  • amazing..this will help a lot thanks ;)

  • what are the notes can any1 tell me plz ?

  • I love it when they think that by slowing down to human noticeable speed, they actually are addressing the ignorant masses!

  • Is it base on blue scale?

  • very interesting! Thank you a lot, cheers form italy

  • Man, can you do a sheet for this with some midi program? That's truly cool!

  • thank you, this is very helpful.

  • did ya see that?

  • loved it learnt it straight away!!! wonder how long it will be before someone asks u for the sheet music!!!

  • @GenerationYesSir .... Sorry but we aren't all so talented.... Please share with us more ingorant folks.... it would be greatly appreciated..... I just can't pick up music by listening.... just don't have the ears for it.

  • @TreasureOne I'll bet you are a GREAT TEACHER....... NOT

  • Your a doink.

  • it was to prove that the patterns would sound good with the right hand accompanying it. Showboating would be playing a not so generic riff

  • vey well done very good playing

  • bravoool, grandioso hombre muy talentosooo!!!

  • Would be nice to have the sheet music showing the right and left hand notes. Ken Larkin web site is awsome. Thanks

  • @derspeederify Did you get any information...... I too would love to have the information.

  • inspiring - i am a total novice but i found i was able to jam along and improvise just by feelinf the vibe - a huge amount of feeling u need for piano just clicked and made sense - thanks top draw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have a question about the left hand notes, are they the roots of the chords or just selected notes played in a particular scale?

  • thanks

  • AWESOME!

  • GOOD EXAMPLES

  • amazinggggggggg... bravooo!!!

  • too tough to jot down the right hand..i just listen to it ,sound it out and learn my own version that sounds close..i'm self taught and can't read music...the right hand notes that seem to sound good for country rock boogie blues are 1,2,,3b,4,5,6,7,7b

  • awesome! I was strugglin so much with the walking bass line, I can practice it with my ease now, thanks. also u show how everything comes from the blues, sweet

  • I'm a having a little trouble following the sequence of right-hand notes. I'd appreciate it if somebody could jot them down for me. Thanks.

  • Best understandable, well paced lesson for us beginners. Thank you so much, learned a great deal in just one short lesson.

  • great left hand and right hand patter exercises.... keep it up - a million thanks for sharing...

  • Great lesson! thank you very much ... God bless you...

  • how can a right hand pattern fit to so many left hand patterns?awesome!

  • thats because the right hand plays the standard BLUES scale ....which can be playes wid all blues tunes......

  • either mine or your piano is not tuned at 440Hz... :D.

  • This is a great lesson!

  • Thank you!!

  • nice hands, nice melodies...completly amazing!

  • This was great. I look forward to getting home now .. and trying them out :-)

  • you could've varied the right hand patterns a bit.

  • better to have the same lick in the right, to keep the focus on the left hand - that being what the lesson is about and all that...

  • True

  • Film alittle closer!!!! I can make it out but it's hard!!! You can zoom in a bit more withouit losing both hands.

  • Wow I've never heard that Lucille one before. I love the layout of your vids, they are so helpful!

  • That was excellent. Thankyou.

  • Wish youtube had been around when I was running a "glass coaster" up and down the keys to keep from ripping my finger-nails off doing Jerry Lee! LOL! You do teach so that people like me that do not read music can learn..exellent! Danny O"Donnell

  • Sounds pretty good!

  • beautiful hands!!! :))

  • You teach a lot in a very short time. Very impressive.

  • Thank You for the tips!

Finally some solid piano tips without all the lengthy intros, unessary talking, plugs and all that crap that bores the hell out of people who want to be inspired by playing.

Sorry for the rant but thanks again.

  • thank you. what a really nice video gift to offer up so others can attempt to learn and improve their piano skills.

i've always loved music and now am trying to learn to understand how all these great piano parts get played. your video is truly just what i've been looking for.

the piano is an amazing and wonderful (and intimidating) instrument. if i ever could play these patterns even half as well as you do here, it'd be such a kick. bon ton roulet.

peace to you and thanks again.

  • thank you for ur lesson :) But i want to know how you do ur right hand. I had some difficult to see your mouvement.

    Thank you again
