Hossa trade was totally worh it. They gave up players who are dime a dozen and got Marian freaking Hossa. The guy had 12 goals and 28 points for them in the playoffs and they got within two games of winning it all.
LOL i remember the watching the belak interview u were talking about. the best part was when he said "keep ur head up, ian white." ahaha i miss belak.
The Huet trade was only to give Price experience. The GM & coach KNOW that the Canadiens WON'T win the cup this year, regardless of the standings. Too small. They just want their young team & rookie goalies to get playoff experience so they know what they can expect in a few yrs from now (and which young prospects they can trade or keep) They got some BIG prospects coming in soon, it's basically a youth movement. I wouldn't be surprised if Koivu is gone soon too.
I'm glad Huet was traded to the caps, #1 because the caps are my favorite team, #2 he wasn't getting much attention cause of price. Now he will be greatly appretiated.
The cristobal huet trade makaes sense for both sides, price has shown hes great under pressure (WJC, Calder cup) but i think gainey could have gotten a lot more even though his contract expires
FANS FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE DESPISE THE TALENT BASE ON OUR TEAM(Pens). I SAY KEEP ON HATIN WE WILL JUST KICK THEIR TEAMS ASS WHEN WE PLAY EM ESPECIALLY THE LEAFS, AND then THEY HAVE MORE REASON TO HATE US LOL.
yo cyber151 , how can someone under achieve with the best player in the world in Crosby? Like Armstrong and Christiensen did for 3 years. I highly doubt Hossa could do much worse. Armstrong and Christiansen, under achievers from day 1.. lol quit being jealous of our awesome teamin Pittsburgh
Decent video. I liked the Hal Gill reaction, that's what I was thinking about the picks. I'm from Pittsburgh. The Hossa comments again good. The Habs traded Huet to make cap space for Hossa. That was the point you missed. But still a 2nd round pick next year. Armstrong was a big hitter in Pittsburh & now with another injury to Hossa our lineup is depleted. I see a losing streak. When Hossa & Sid come back they'll have little time to gel as the playoffs will be right around the corner. Later.
Toronto sucks even more now.But not as much as Bob Gainey. BTW it's not HOOOOET, its Huet. And they didnt put all the hope on Price, also on Halak, the AHL's best goalie.
although I thought you were wrong about San Jose not making a great deal, it seams Bernier scored a pair on his debut on his first two shots in the first period, shows what you know! good job.
There are windows of time where Kaberle and Kubina's no trade clauses have no effect, this summer with Kubina and next with Kaberle, once the window shuts they're stuck with them for the next season, the clauses do not deteriorate permanantly.
The Belak move shocked me, in that we actually got something that decent for him. He was an entertaining personality, but his over stats verify my excuse for not liking him as a player...at all.
Gill and Kilger were expendable and I'm keeping hopeful we'll land some nice picks.
Montreal has got to have some sort of a hidden agenda...either that or they are secretly running low on draft picks and were just desperate? Who knows.
i think you should of talked about forsberg going back to the avs. but then again, that might make the video a bit too long lol. and i agree. why did the canadiens give up huet? they are a contender, and really, now that he's gone, price is going to have A SHIT LOAD of pressure. he's a rookie. the hossa trade was also really not worth it.
in NHL 2k8 i gave the leafs ed belfour and right before the deadline they got rid of belfour for nothing in return and how about the ruutu ladd trade and martin lapointe 1st round pick trade wat did you think about those and the belfour trade
i know this is bugging you a lot but some hockey fan refused to say wat team he was for said to me why toronto traded belak instead of sundin and i said wat you said stop f***cking whining about sundin!! HIS HEART BELONGS IN TORONTO and its not gonna move to any other team
I had that very reaction about the Huet trade. What is Montreal thinking? Plus, I didn't know that the Penguins gave away their 1st round pick. They really didn't need to get rid of Armstrong. That's going to bite them in the future. You've got to think when Crosby comes back that Michel Terrien comes up with a super line of Malkin-Crosby-Hossa. I agree with the Hlavac thing being a pretty big diss. But hey, I'm happy we didn't give up a lot to get him. We'll see how Hlavac works out.
Steve- You're an idiot...the Pens trade for Hossa automatically turns them into cup contenders. Christensen SUCKS and Espositos stock has gone down dramatically, he didnt fit in the Pens lineup anyway(crosby, malkin, staal @ centeR)..in my mind Colby was the biggest thing they gave up, but (just a guess) I believe sid will have no problem playing with Marian Hossa! You hate to losea 1st rounded but they have so many young assets regardless. LETS GO PENS...sorry you're a leafs fan
Yup an underperformer in the playoffs is gonna save the pens...you know if im gonna give up christiensen, esposito, crosbys winger ARMSTRONG and a 1st round pick...id want somebody with good playoff background.
AND with that trade made i guarantee the pens wont see the cup this year.
Its too bad Fletcher wasn't able to unload the NTCs, but thats not really his fault. Its amazing how stubborn some of our players are, either way heres hoping he gets rid of them all by October
you were almost rite when you said about a month ago that wellwood or steen would be traded because Wellwood asked for a trade but we all see he did not get it
I'm happy with the Leafs decisions. People might bash Sundin or Kaberle or Tucker for staying, but those are our leaders and despite the Leafs mediocrity they are our captains and captains stay on that ship, sink or sail, and I'm going to be watching and loyal no matter what.
When those four players decided they didn't want to waive their no-trade, they added another 3-5 years of re-building on this team. Anyway you look at it, this team is in a no-win situation. Fletcher was pissed, and so am I. Especially at Tucker and Kaberle.
I agree with you on the Pittsburgh deal I think the Penguins locker room is going to be dry and lonely. But look at the Wild we lost Belak one of our enforcers, the Wild picked up Chris Simon to add to Derek Boogaard, and Todd Fedoruk talk about intimidating. If you have a beef with the Wild now you are going to pay.
Not sure if you are aware but a 2nd and 5th round pick in 09 from the Penguins, for Gill are basically throw away picks for the fact Pittsburgh willl be in the top of the standings for the next few years. Armstrong, Christiansen, 18 goals a year combined, and Esposito a center who Pittsburgh doesn't need for the next 6 years, for Hossa an 80 point a season player. I'd say thats brilliant. Not sure if you realize how little Armstrong & Christiansen provide. As Far as Esposito, he is expendable
NOTHING is a throw-away pick. Pogge was drafted 90+ overall, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kaberle, Strahlman were all drafted well into the hundreds, and Broduer was either a late first-rounder or early 2nd rounder. Cliff's job was to get what he can FOR NOW and he did. He (or somebody else) will make many more moves once the playoffs are over). And Armstrong is awesome.
Dallas doesn't need Smith, so they might as well trade him. Richard is an upgrade over Jussi and Richard is also willing to play wing, so I like the trade for dallas.
One more thing. With Florida's deals for Kilger and Belak...in the 2008 draft, the Panthers will have their own 2nd, 4th and 7th picks...and that's it. And...they're not going to make the playoffs this season. Not that I'm complaining about the returns that Kilger and Belak got...but Florida's not in good shape ;)
I'm gonna make a minor correction for you. It's actually the Ducks 2009 2nd round pick (for Huet). I don't know how much difference that will make, whether the Ducks will be as good in 08-09 (maybe they win the Stamkos lottery, lol)...
Huet was a terrible trade. What do you think about bernier? Will the Sabres be able to get into the playoffs at this point? We might be joining leafs nation in wanting to kill our management.
Yea that's true. Are you surprised none of the leafs waived their no trade clauses? Also, now that the Leafs have fallen in the east, do you think it's a terrible idea to give Pogge some experience in the NHL?
Great video, no problem at all with the length. It was a little disappointing that we had to trade Bernier, but the Sharks desparately needed a puck moving dman. We've played terrible against teams who relentlessly forecheck. Of course Campbell can't do it alone, but he gives us a chance if the entire team raises their game. Hopefully Ryane Clowe replaces Bernier's physicality when he gets back.
WTF was that Huet trade??? Only getting a 2nd rounder and relying on a rookie in the playoffs?
The more I think about it, given that Fletcher was basically handcuffed with those no-trade clauses...He did alright. He got us 4 Draft Picks, 3 of them for this years draft alone. Atleast he did what he could do, although I would've thought about maybe moving big Pony as well.
I was walkin home from school when my mom texted me sayin Belak was traded. Not gonna lie...I shed a tear right there on the sidewalk. Broke my effing heart. I'm sad to see him go...but hopefully he gets to play more with Florida.
That MTL trade made me laugh. Trade your star goalie when you're in the playoffs? Now they're relying on poor 20 year old Carey Price to carry them. PRESSURE!
One thing that surprised me was Kubina. I thought he was gone for sure. That's another NTC for ya.
Yeah...Fletch was pretty pissed about it too. After we won he decided he wanted to stay. Makes me wonder if we lost, what he would've decided. I do think he's gone in the summer, though.
