  • America sucks

  • I remember when this was released in 2008, I was in Tokyo, such fond memories. The Japanese love Autechre, so much so weeks prior to the Albums release they were blasting Gantz Graf on the streets of Shibuya on the big video screens. Amazing.

  • Amazing

  • garbage

  • Man I always cry when I hear this

  • mmm that was good.

  • I see Aeon Flux and a horizon over Bregna.

  • @jhoffa232 I love you.

  • Incunabula = 3~6 years ahead of its time

Tri Repetae = 10~15 years ahead of its time

Confield = 100~200 years ahead of its time

Quaristice = 1000~2000 years ahead of its time

Autechre = music from the remote future

  • @1100010000 Very true.

  • very beautiful

  • Quaristice remains like, one of my favourite recent ae albums; it's just kind of a fun piss-take in some ways. It feels really casual and peripatetic, which I really like; lot's of good ideas, loads of crazy dense reverb.

  • so beautiful it hurts

  • in my opinion Quaristice is the worst album of Autechre, just this song sounds good, the rest has no inspiration.

  • The last 50 seconds are heartwrenching.

  • this track is absolutely stunning. awe inspiring

  • one of my favorites

  • This track is cold and inorganic in the best possible way

  • @ballersack I disagree, I find it to be much warmer and lusher than most of their work. It's truly a beautiful song.

  • @Matt3269

It's beautiful, but I don't see how anyone could think its "warm and lush". Maybe compared to Confield, but certainly not compared to Lp5. I hear snow covered mountains and abandoned concrete buildings, not leafy green valleys filled with flowers and shit..

  • nice tune

  • Its got a sense of finality, like Among Mysevles by fsol

  • One of Autechre's most beautiful tracks. Great opener to a great album.

  • i just opened 8 tabs of this song all about 10 seconds apart

    it was cool

  • blackpool lights in the rain

  • after loving Oversteps like i've never loved before... i still have to come back to Altibzz

this perfect sound blows my mind

  • oh my f***ng god!!! what a f***ng sound!!!!

  • Yes i totally picture planets but also the void of space, colliding suns and stuff like that. I honestly think their heavy use of reverb has alot to do with that but who knows! Its abstract and beautiful

  • I disagree. Music and opinionisation don't fit well together - especially when it comes to Ae's music. The album in question is extremely subtle and to the point - much like a collection of haiku poems. And lame isn't a word that can be used in conjunction with Ae.

If this record doesn't make you say things like carliboy908 below (spot on comment), then you should probably leave it for a while, and return to it after 5 years or so - my humble advice

  • I kinda agree that Quaristice is less 'deep' than their comlicated albums before it, but for me they completely compensated with their live performances. The Quaristice tour was mind blowing and revolutionary imo. But i guess that's what Autechre is.

  • The lost song to the forgotten cyber-punk movie

  • well it would have to be a re-envisioned cyberpunk

  • Dudez, I huffed gasoline and nail polish remover during Autechre's entire discography and....what was I saying?

  • littlecatpiano, I read your words and thought "hello my brother from another mother"

    :D

  • I say people who don't like Quaristice just honestly don't get it. Because I'm thoroughly impressed every time i listen to it. Autechre is my favorite music act - they don't just make sounds - they make whole enviroments. When i listen to quaristice, i see planets being formed. Altibzz is the perfect opener to an absolutely wonderful album. I can never decide which album of theirs is my favorite.

  • spot on :)))))

  • there's something about Quaristice that makes you think about planets isnt there

  • @ttasi7 watery planets

  • @littlecatpiano Exactly. They innovate and auchistrate new listening experiences.

  • my favourite autechre track ever.

  • @ TEKM0SIS they are hard to beat

  • my fav is draft

  • I think this is a good enough reason to invest in a record player.

  • Not really, Sean Booth himself said "the actual [album] is the FLAC file." The album was made on a computer, if you get it on vinyl you're getting lower quality.

  • Lush

  • this track sets the mood for this album perfectly. when i think 'quaristice' i hear this and then feel warm inside. lovely.

  • autechre is my fav.,ok,but u cannot say if it s better than aphex or not, since their sound is different, kinda, even they are in the same scene.the both bands create great sound though ;)

  • I like autechre better than aphex

  • who cares? it's not a popularity contest.

  • you sir are a fruit

  • This is..pretty awesome

  • Never been a fan of Autechre, but this track is pure ambient and I like it

  • awesome

  • I mean after all, who ever said that electronic music in general isn't good to listen to without drugs! For those who think that listening to Pink Floyd expands their mind, imagine what Autechre can do to your mind while under the influence. It would be like witnessing the very fabric of reality unfolding before your senses. Do you think Rob and Sean have ever tried making music while under the influence?

  • @jdoget07 i've heard from more than one source that they are both huge stoners.. and i can't imagine them not having had a few (hundred) psychedelic experiences in their past. i listened to "incunubula" on acid in 1994 and it literally changed my life forever.. i remember watching tron (the original) on acid while their black album played. that cd sounded totally different in the state of mind. i understood the complexities and algorithms of the most challenging songs on it.. fascinating.

  • @merrickbrown that's intersting. Once I surrounded my bed with 4 boom boxes & played different "Bitches Brew" performances on each one at the same time while i went to sleep --- too scared to mess w/ the acid though

  • My favorite Autechre release is Incunabula and I will always look out for their new style, approach and innovation. One thing for sure, they are not stagnant and always willing to push the envelope. Thank you for sharing mate, well done.

  • I think amber is there best album,it`s just a personal thing as music should be.Confield and draft hurt my brain too much,i appreciate them on a technical level but they lack the atmosphere and emotion of the early stuff. But that`s autechre moving forward and challenging you.Untilted is stunning and quaristice is very good, still getting into it,love the details, the secrets.

  • This is beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  • this song captures something beyond words. my favorite track off this album.

  • i think paralel suns might beat it.

  • Okay people! Are all of you going to bitch all day about this pointless Amber vs. Quaristice debate or are you going to "properly" comment and give ode to one of the most beautiful ambient pieces EVER WRITTEN by Autechre? Because this song lulls me to tears every time I hear it. Cheers for 'Altibzz.'

  • Quaristice isn't attempting to be like Amber. Maybe you should be listening to Coldplay instead so you can get the same thing every album.

  • I don't want all my music to sound the same.

But if I were to pull all Autechres discs off a shelf now, and start listening to them as if they were all new to me, there would be some excellent records, Tri Repetae, Anti EP, Anvil Vapre, Garbage and my favourite Amber. For me Quaristice wouldn't be one I kept pulling out to play when I was in possession of some of the others. Its just dull and doesn't take me anywhere, quite like Coldplay actually.

  • ow man autechres is awsome man

    thank you very much

but what do you recommend appart from it?

(and what can I do, I also fell in love with lisa kudrow)

  • Check out boards of canada. They sound a lot like this. Also, try finding some of µ-ziq's new stuff. It's also a lot like this.

  • Try these - Desert Island Discs so to speak. 1) BOC Maxima - Boards Of Canada 2) Technique - New Order 3) Selected Ambient Works - Aphex Twin 4) Bloodmusic - Global Communications 5) Violator - Depeche Mode 6) Electric Cafe - Kraftwerk 7) Music For Airports - Brian Eno 8) Tedra - Kenny Larkin 9) Crackdown - Psyche 10) Lanzarote - Speedy J
  • autechre is the only place you will find this sound.

Boards is completely different, a separate musical world.

Aphex Twin, Selected Ambient Works: Vol. II is awesome though.

  • Lets face it Amber destroys Quaristice. Doesn't matter how limited or special the package is.

  • Honestly, I didn't like Amber that much. Chiastic Slide was probably one of their best, though. Quaristice is still amazing though, I will not deny that.

  • No way, Amber is the most boring Autechre album: it's simple, it's ambient, it's melody-driven and primitive. I don't think Quaristice is the best either but at least it's way more mature and varied.

  • I like Amber, but it's probably one of my least favorite Autechre albums. I like their later, more complex and abstract stuff.

  • Well at least SOMEONE does!!! I just listened to Draft 7.30 last night and I seriously felt as if my IQ got boosted up a couple of notches. I'm NOT kidding either. Sure as hell didn't hurt MY brain.

  • Exactly. They're so damn inventive and brilliant. They've really evolved over the years. I love Quaristice, definitely one of my favorite albums. Hey, you know what's a good idea? If you're a stoner, listen to Autechre while you're high. Especially Quaristice and Draft 7.30. It'll be like the Gantz Graf video in your brain every time. If you're not, well, that's okay. You appreciate Autechre like I do anyway. :D

  • ProjectSmammi-

I never thought I would hear someone mention substances and Autechre in the same sentence and that makes me happy! One of my biggest goals right now is to actually do acid while listening to Quaristice. I mean, any Ae album would be ideal to listen to while stoned (except maybe 'Confield' just because parts of that album are so nightmarish). But a song like "Altibzz" would be such a happy experience on acid.

  • I actually did that. Listened to Quaristice on my very first (and only so far) acid trip. It was amazing. I can't even begin to describe the feelings I got from Altibizz. It was like I was floating in pure serenity. Quite amazing. Prior to that I listened to Pens Expers from Confield, and that... was kind of scary. That song has really intense beats and it was like it was battering my mind with every kick. I couldn't bring myself to listen to anything like Eidetic Casein, though. Creepy.

  • I think "Chaistic Slide" would be an awesome album to listen to while stoned! That is probably my favorite album by Ae for the reason that when you listen to it, certain textures are apparent while others hide under the surface. You really have to dig in order to get the hidden treasures out. If Altibizz felt dreamy to you, imagine how Pule would sound on LSD. Now THATS a trip!

  • Ooh. That does sound like a good idea. I'd have to agree that Chiastic Slide is one of my favorite albums as well. Especially Cipater. That song has an unforgettable beat. And yes, lots and lots of texture. And Cichli is just so carefree and playful sounding. Yeah, next time I'm tripping balls, that's the album I'll be listening to.

  • there are gems in all of it, but i agree.

  • amber is NOT ambient.

Yulquen and Nine are the only ambient tracks.

go listen to brian eno, ambient 4: on land. that is ambient.

    amber is just minimal.

some of the tracks did drag on me the first listen, but i was acclimated to this climate of music. now my ears can stretch all the way from "Amber" to "Oversteps"

  • i bought my pet chimp a bontempi organ from a carboot sale......

  • use it on the street.

  • Comment removed

  • Their new direction with ambient music on Quaristice was impressive, indeed. Nevertheless, I don't think Amber was their best album.

  • amber isn't really and AMBIENT album.

ambient has to be sparse in the percussive department, like yulquen. that is an awesome track.
