  • I go swimming at the "shark pit"here in Maiu all the time...i want to see a shark but im almost thankfull that i havent yet

  • most scary sharks, bullshark (they can go in fresh water), tiger sharks, and great white.

  • nice pictures man

  • ohh god is it safe to swim in maui??

  • Sure. We've done well over 2000 dives there and seen tiger sharks only twice.

Shark attacks are pretty rare in Hawaii. They do happen but you have way better chances of being hit by lightning.

  • @OhanaHonu Seeing that you havent been hit by a lightning thrice in the 400000000000 times you have walked on the Earth I wouldn't say that so easily.

  • @gordielaforg No. stay home.

  • Actually, very imressed you shot that. Tigers are notorious "EATERS". I would have been very nervous to be that close to a Tiger. White tips, not so, but a Tiger? Egads. I guess if they're not hungry when you're near, you're lucky but otherwise....

  • I agree it's intimidating , but while there's plenty of recorded underwater encounters with tigers, reports of attacks are extremely rare. As I understand it, tigers are surface feeders for the most part. Surfers and snorkelers are at most risk.

  • I know Tigers are surface eaters( they love albatross) but dude it is a freakin TIGER SHARK you have balls to sit there and film it and i thank you for that because they are such beautiful creatures....BUT if it wanted you it would take you no problem, and i think you know that, so i applaud you.

  • cool.

vid edit needs less transitions and text though.

  • thses are amazing, i saw a very large one a year ago diving molikini just near the edge of the crater

  • that was really cool! u guys r really lucky to experience stuff like that!

  • wow...you are brave or crazy. don't know which.

  • There always used to be whitetip reef sharks at Molokini. Again the best thing to do is ask the dive shops. We don't dive much anywhere except at Honokowai. We've seen whitetips and blacktips there occasionally but they aren't regulars. Many summers we don't see any sharks.

  • There are places where you can see reef sharks (whitetip and black tip) but I don't know any place where you are guaranteed to see any of the larger sharks. To find out if there are any such places the best thing to try is asking at the dive shops.

  • where for the reef sharks

  • do u no a good place basically guaranteed to see a shark in maui (in the wild no aquarium)? been looking for on for awhile!!!

  • You know, I went snorkeling in West Maui in August 2007, and I wasn't really worried about sharks. Wow, I'm glad I watched this video after my trip and not before!

    Really cool video!

BTW, I saw some small critters on the North side of Black Rock that looked like baby Hammerhead Sharks. Is it possible that there are Hammerheads there? I don't really know anything about the subject.

  • We probably would have seen more if you had gotten closer. If the water was gin clear, you should have been able to get within 40 feet or so and get a decent image without filtering etc. However, it was a TIGER shark not some reef shark so I don't blame you.

  • Awesome, we were in Hawaii in December and saw a Tiger shark just after we had finished surfing in Waimea (Oahu) - awesome but scary!

  • Pondmanusa, even though the camera couldn't pick up the stripes they were easily seen with the naked eye.

  • my question to you is, how do you confirm it is a Tiger? Can't even see the skin?

  • look closely, blunt snout and biggest shark with blunt snout in hawaii so yea

  • This briefest of video was shot with wide-angle. Telephoto would simply not have picked up anything. The creature was so close and swam down a sand channel from right to left. I had a long long look.

I've heard divers say seeing a tiger shark was just The Best. I saw the shine in their eyes when they described their experience. I thought them crazy.

I now understand. Crystalized Ocean. And so close! But the good kind of close. Perfect distance...
