Nothing in this clip is Dark Ambient. So throw your doubtful encyclopaedia in the next trashcan. ;)
I guess, the term is confusing. In fact, it's an outgrowth of Industrial music, created by artists such as Lustmord. It's not a subgenre of Ambient music. Back in the late 1980s/early 1990s, all this Dark Ambient stuff was called Ambient Industrial. In 1994 i read the term Dark Ambient for the first time in an Industrial music magazine. Maybe it's older, but i think, it's a term from the 1990s.
Great videos, I liked almost everything, neo classical ambient is not my kind of music... could you tell me other medieval ambient project? because the example you gave us here sounds like the toccata and fugue remix you can find everywhere.
Wow , until I saw your videos I thought I was fairly well versed in the various styles of Dark Ambient. Now I have many new types to add to my collection, thanks so much for posting these, very educational and informative.
I wanted to thank you for make such an informative series of videos, Dark Ambient as a whole has been growing on me rather quickly recently and this was definitely what I was looking for. My favorites were the Isolationism, Death, Medieval, and Martial Ambient and I was wondering if LULL was the actual name of an artist or if that was referring to something else, anyway much appreciated. Thank you
Across the Rubicon would be perfect for a night of tabletop minatures wargaming like Warhammer fantasy or 40k (especially if one of the armies is imperial guard)
...I have a huge respect for Massimo Magrini...Bad Sector, where to put it? it really depends on which album or song...he is always playing with sounds... dark ambient, noise, space and industrial sounds as well....
mmm....In which way? ...Nattramn's side project is amazing...but, he didn't follow a straight line on his album. I still want to show my respects for his music, and make a video-tribute...but I don't have the right equipment.
I have allways been in the "metal scene", but nowadays i want to make my own project mixing metal and dark ambient but i have many problems in finding information...can someone give me some tips or recomendations to start doing something? i mean, software synthetizers, VST or something like that...isa goodway tostart composing, and what wold be the best software to make dark ambient? thanks in advance...
Software?? mmm.... that depend on how much do you know about computers...or how much you know about synths...both ways can be really complex if you don't have much experience... the simple gear would be a keyboard and a Synthetizer... your make the rest.
... software or instruments, both can be really complex if you don't have any experience... but the most simple but basic gear would be a record machine, a mic, a keyboard and a Synth. You make the rest.
mmm... call them just darkwave seems to me like an easy way out... in other words, you don't know about this music... and you just call them "Darkwave"...
But even they emerge from Martial or Neoclasical field, they belong to Ambient music....
Maybe i dont know a lot about these tracks here, but i know for sure how ambient and neoclassical music sounds, and its two different music but sometimes entwined like here, but i would say i hear a lot more neoclassical here, and not so much ambient at all. Thats just my own opinion and you dont have to care, because i dont know if this discussion leads anywhere. But its very nice music though
the middle one is more on the neoclassical side i'd say for a while i hated the song it was too dark for me and depressing but i could not get it out of my head now i love the song where did you get grabesmond's music?
-In this case...in this Ritual Ambient...sacrifice is the right word...I don't know...but I have that feeling every time I listen this song... But my point is that there are others types of Ritual Ambient... for example nature rituals... other times...just drums for fly away from your body....
I guess organic dark ambient is coming in part 6 or 7? good examples would be Lustmord/Robert Rich -STALKER cd or Northaunt, dark ambient using field recordings, natur inspired music. I'm also missing keyboard dark ambient (call it what you like) often black metal related in imagery but musically it's ambient played on keyboards only, good example:Vinterriket.
...Noise ambient belong strictly to the Noise field...there line between Pagan and Ritual are not well define...Artemi didn't split Martial ambient, he only mentioned that Martial Music can be divide in those styles....Martial Neoclassical and Industrial...but he mentioned that Martial ambient combine elements of those two... :)
"dark" ambient is a subgenre as well afterall.Medieval ambient ! wow, its definitely my style, havent heard anything like this, i gonna check this out
Well... this videos and the original guide, are not something official...this is more like a useful way to order and/or find the kind of Dark Ambient music you like... :) Endvra is also in my favorite list.. Thanks for comment..
I like the Medieval and Martial styles demonstrated here very much.. I do actually prefer my ambient music to be more....well.... musical.. But I do like what i've heard of the other styles also... Thanks for uploading and opening my eyes!!!!
Great video (as all the others) Neoclassical and Medieval are my favourite ones [:
Anyway, is it true that the majority of Martial Ambient projects are nazis?

So if Neo-Classical Dark Ambient exists, then Baroque ambient should exist into fruition.

Wow, seriously how do you find all these ambient sorts?
My favorite artists are Lustmord and Atrium Carceri, but the ones you posted up are still very unusual and exotic to me

Do you think that this is too much.
The guy from the website say that there is also a sub-genre called Ambient noise.
He split ritual ambient in ritual ambient and pagan ambient.
He also split martial ambient in neo-classical martial, martial industrial and martial ambient.
There is also many people that say that there is also ghost ambient and a artist that say that he invented it.
