i'm playing this in my school and it quite challenging for someone of the age of 16 and never had private lesson's teacher in his life. But i must also say it is quite beautiful.
this song is the melody to which my school's alma mater is set and we recently played this song at our spring concert to say goodbye to our retiring headmaster. The song is beautiful, peaceful, yet heart-wrenching at the same time
The melody of the woodwinds in the beginning with the harmony of the low brass. And also the chilling high notes of flutes towards the middle. And then towards the end, the combination of all the harmonic and melodic lines with the continuous, piercing high notes of the piccolo. Ahhh, such a great piece.
So beautiful. I've always loved this. Great performance, as usual, from the NTWS, although I would prefer more of a glacial tempo and a fair amount of rubato for this piece.
I am playing this and it sounds totally different..........

We just have to admire the genius of Grainger...the way he weaves countermelodies in and out of a well-known tune, creating luscious harmonies...

Where's the Bass Clarinet? I remember the Bass Clarinet had the BEST part to this.

My little brother (six years old) listened to this and said it "sounded like love."
I think the resolution of this piece is the closest thing to seeing the face of whatever deity you worship.
