These pieces render me stupid and tearful. People, please stop claiming that he is "too dramatic". The greatest musicians all loved music, felt passionate about it whilst playing and weren't afraid to "make faces".
When musicians move around when they play, people say they're too dramatic; when they don't move around when they play, people say they're emotionless. Why not just enjoy the music and let the artist express him/herself the way he or she wishes? If the music makes him feel inclined to move a certain way, why shouldn't he?
This is a beautiful sonata. Cello and piano work great together. The piano part is not easy to play, and you can tell the cello player is not just playing with his instrument, but with his soul.
Actually, my piano teacher, Steven Swedish, has a recording of this sonata (along with another cello-piano sonata) with a cellist by the name of Wolfgang Laufer. Check it out, Swedish is aworld-renounwed-very expressive- pianist, and Wolfgang is a great cellist too.
an incredibly fine performance by both players...this duo should be much better known. Too bad that this beautiful sonata isn't played more often, as I can tell you as a pianist, the piano part is a HOLY TERROR
i mean that flying staccato, three times up bow and then down bow.

Interesting bowstroke at O:31 . I guess most cellits are used to play it on one bow?

I think cellist is too egoistic.
Overall dynamic ws destroyed by his egoism.
Pianist from Spain plkays like an outsider.
This is not cello solo but duo.
If a pianist is really professor, I think he already knows it but...

He just goes with the music, if you try to look like a robot while playing this it won't work...

Amen to that! I was known as a "thrasher" during my performance career. I moved as the music moved me.....

When I play the piano I almost stand up every first count of the measure. I first noticed it when I saw myself on video...

What a great piece, both cello and piano were so beautifully written. How come there are not many recordings on the market ? Thank you for posting.
