People really have forgotten why we play video games. It's not because it has great story or amazing visuals that makes a game good. It's all about the gameplay, and that's what Nintendo is all about
I would disagree with you, as a patron of film, that games shouldn't necessarily be attempting to be like films, but given the caliber of storytelling in most games I agree, Games should either go all the way with exciting and creative gameplay, create a mezmerizing and complexfully artful storytelling experience, or use one to compliment the other, Uncharted, Ico, and Mass Effect are perfect examples

the soundtrack just totally made both galaxies for me. fully orchestrated beats midi right out of the park. this is one reason i look forward to skyward sword, the first legend of zelda game with a fully orchestrated sountrack

Why do people always say they got bored of their Wii after Wii Sports and never touched it again and yet it has games like this; Super Mario Galaxy 1& 2 got 97% on Metacritic of all the games this generation only GTA IV gets a higher score. Surely games like this would be a welcome break for a "hardcore gamer" who owns a Wii from the avalanche of FPS's on 360 and PS3.

Sorry but this game isn't near flawless, but it's still a good game. The story is atrocious (I don't care if it is Mario, that's no excuse for having such a lazy overused plot), The controls can be strange, and the camera can mess you up pretty badly.
yeah Mario games aren't about plot, but ultimately if they put unskippable cut-scenes in the game and you have no choice but to watch them, they must be judged as part of the game as whole. Completely cutting the plot out of the second game entirely was a massive improvement.

This game is over rated the gameplays ok but transitions between gravitational pulls are weird the greaphics are good but he said the fun is in exploring and running and playing but u cant explore you have to follow the path they have made for you with easy bosses and stars I have gotten all stars in the first 10-15 hours it is good but the origanal Nintendo 64 game Super Mario 64 is better.

@shiptoncraig Exactly, but the point is there are too many console games that focus heavily on the presentation and not enough on the core gameplay. This is probably to balance out the simple, concentrated gameplay approach of most mobile games by doing what they can't.
But again, like you said, they shouldn't have to sacrifice one for the other in the first place.

@littlefishkid the point that jimmy is trying to say, is just that 3D mario platforming titles have never had 2 players being used, so nintendo didnt put online for a reason. they werent supposed to put a star for a 2nd player in the game and a luma in super mario galaxy 2 in the first place, but it was requested the game had multiplayer and since nintendo was smart, they didnt put anything special. unlike NSMBW, where it does have multiplayer, but still shouldnt require online for gamer needs.

This game is so much better than the sequel in my opinion. The magic this game has, with it's awesome level design and story is just incredible. This is definitely one of the best games ever made. Galaxy 2 is great as well...but it doesn't triumph the original.

The only Problem with this game is, ist waaaaaay to easy. Bowers was the biggest dissapiontment they made the same mistake they made in M64 having almost the same Bossbattle over and over! Only changing Bowsers attack pattern a little is no new Boss! Its not fun running into him and knowing what hes gonna do
@Cylord Mario games are targeted to younger gamers. And (normally) younger gamers arent experts at games yet. So they need easier challenges. Just like Metroid is targeted to teenagers, the challenge is more difficult. And Kirby is targeted to toddlers. I hope i helped you understand more :)
that's kinda how bowser boss battles always been but i agree with you, altho through different playthroughs of this game the experience is always different, sometimes it's actually hard to fight him, other times its a walk in the park, however the sequel is harder than the this
I think Mario games are sickeningly overpraised. Their awesome, granted, but they aren't the epitome of gaming. The Mario franchise's praise is at least 50% nostalgia.
Switch out Mario with some generic character, and it will look strikingly much like many other great platformers that have fallen into obscurity.

Mario 64 = Great big open levels, best exploring
Sunshine = Best Hub world
Galaxy = Best controls
The next big Mario game should combine all of these elements. HD presentation won't hurt either :D

The only Problem with this game is, ist waaaaaay to easy. Bowers was the biggest dissapiontment they made the same mistake they made in M64 having almost the same Bossbattle over and over! Only changing Bowsers attack pattern a little is no new Boss! Its not fun running into him and knowing what hes gonna do

@Cylord Mario games are targeted to younger gamers. And (normally) younger gamers arent experts at games yet. So they need easier challenges. Just like Metroid is targeted to teenagers, the challenge is more difficult. And Kirby is targeted to toddlers. I hope i helped you understand more :)

that's kinda how bowser boss battles always been but i agree with you, altho through different playthroughs of this game the experience is always different, sometimes it's actually hard to fight him, other times its a walk in the park, however the sequel is harder than the this

I think Mario games are sickeningly overpraised. Their awesome, granted, but they aren't the epitome of gaming. The Mario franchise's praise is at least 50% nostalgia.
Switch out Mario with some generic character, and it will look strikingly much like many other great platformers that have fallen into obscurity.

@mrmario11B i do put gameplay over graphics and i still don't like this game. it just didnt have that mario feel to me. the concept of mario in space? and a 3D space as well? as much as i enjoyed 64, i just cant play this one. i prefer the 2D mario. i have yet to try out the second one, i plan on it, but my expectations are very low regardless of all the praise it has. but to each his own opinion!
