I hear rumors that the Great Lakes guys don't really care much for deep sea/salt water sailors who venture out that way for work. Is that true? I feel like it is certainly a much different ballgame with pilotage requirements and all, but doubt there is any animosity between the two groups.
what are your days on and off? i work on the river and have always wondered what the working schedule was on the lakes. i watched a boat at two harbors mn once i think it was loading there. do you work two six hour shifts a day or is it different out there? does it pay good? nice video.
That's not too bad, when I worked on the Roger Blough and Burns Harbor you would barely notice that but a 105' beam helps. The last ship I worked on was similar in size and rolled noticeably even in mild seas (Earl W. Oglebay). Nice video I will miss seeing her now that LaFarge is scaling back in Saginaw.
My father Jimmy Finch served as chief on this vessel a few years back. I was allowed to ride along at the time, and have fond memories of this ship and its crew.
Your father was a helluva a good shipmate, we all enjoyed working with him and were deeply saddened to hear of his departure. I remember You riding along with us that summer, it was a pleasure having You aboard. I hope all is going well for You and your family.
great video!!!

That actually does kinda look comfortable. It's not really shaking, just going up and down like an airplane.

@Hippeye I second that opinion of Jimmy.. I sailed with him on the Maumee years back. He was a riot to work with. He's missed for sure
