Also its a deeply complex ride. The ride changes depending on where you sit on the train. Also the tempurature changes in the tunnels (it gets about twenty degrees cooler and kinda humid in the tunnels) the noises (screeching of the rails and the shaking noise of the coaster going up down left and right especially in the tunnels especially the helix), the constistency of the speed, it dosn't speed up and slow down constantly, in fact the brake under toe over hang was added for this reason later.
I worked on the Beast for a year and trust me. I would know. Judging by the speed that the trainis traveling, there is only one or two people on it. I know this becasue I have ridden it completly by myself without anyone else on it. Also Its important to know that at night after it has been run all day, the rails are much warmer and although its official speed is 65 mph, at night it reaches speeds of 75 at a minimum with a full train. (less friction between the reails and wheels)
THE best wodden rollercoaster EVER!I personally hate wooden rollercoasters due to the jerky movements, but this one i will ride every time i go to kings island!which is about once a year or so.its no wonder why people love it, seeing how this is the worlds longest woodie.
I've been to a lot of different parks including Cedar Point and this is by far my favorite wooden rollercoaster. Definitely in my top 5 rollercoasters overall. I love the first drop after the second lift hill how it kind of brakes half way down then you free fall into the tunnel. Really intense ride!
i just went to kings island last night and the beast is amazing! it is way better at night thi and the tunnels u go thru are so scary haha 2:40 thru 3:00 you go soo fast
After I moved people thought they were so awsome because they rode intimidator 305 at kings dominion. I say back I've been to king's Island and rode The Beast on my 5th birthday.
I was only 6yrs old when my parents took me to Kings Island. My Dad took me on the Beast and it was AAAAWSome!! Cause by the time we made it back to the landing to get off of it ...I was wrapped sooo tightly onto the seat my Dad had to pry me off..lol ...aah memories. XD
You have to ride this ride as one of your last rides of the night. It is a totally different ride in the darkness of night. Speeding through the woods at night and going through the tunnels when its pitch black outside and traveling almost 70 mph is just awesome. Don't miss this ride at night.
I have ridden this roller coaster close to a 100 times over the years. I rode it when it was only a year old back in 1980. At that time it was the tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster in the world both for wood and steel coasters. It shattered all the world records at the time. It opened in 1979 and to this day is still the longest wooden roller coaster in the world and if you include steel coasters it still in the top 5 I believe.
I don't know how to explain it. It feels like an abnormal bank like the coaster is breaking. It's not banking into the turn. It banks WELL before the turn. It's like the left hand side suddenly broke and your train is about to slide off the track.
Also, riding it at night.. for some reason.. is LESS scary for me. Mostly because you just have to hold it's hand and trust that it's not going to kill you. It's just a rickety abuse of noise. And.. one of the greatest experiences of your life.
In fact, every time I ride it I seriously say a prayer and I'm not religious at all.
If you've ridden it you might know the feeling I'm talking about. It's an amazing ride. One that as a kid I never really cared for but the older I get.. I have this.. respect for. It's like my equal as far as my limit of fear.
The one part that makes me almost suffer a panic attack is right after the second drop (Where it stops) and the ride abnormally banks suddenly before the turn.
The Beast may be the only coaster to truly terrify me.
It may be the best and only example of a coaster that on video looks absolutely tame in comparison to the actual feeling of it. It is the absolute most jerky feeling coaster and STILL.. while I've ridden every coaster at King's Island and Cedar Point and done countless other 'scarier' things.. it is the only coaster that actually makes me feel like I might die the next time I ride it.
good thing Cedar Fair Bought Parmount Parks! now Parmoun'ts Kings Island is Kings Island, Parmount's Kings Dominion is Kings Dominion, Parmount's Carowinds is Carowinds, Parmounts Candas Wonderland is Candas Wonderland and Parmount's Californas Great America is Californas Great America. Kids Ville and Nicklodon Untiverse is now Planet Snoopy. The Face Off is now called inverigo. the Scooby Doo's Ghoster Coaster is renamed Woodstalk Express or Ghoster Coaster. Thanks Ceadr fair!
This video definitely doesn't do The Beast justice. I worked on this ride for a few years and rode it literally a few hundred times. Riding it in person a lot different. It hauls ass... especially after it rains. The best time to ride is at night if it's sprinkling out.
These feels incredibly slow. The Beast is my favorite coaster but this vid does not do it justice. While I have no proof I swear it gets alot faster as the day progresses.
@cestickrod That makes sense, because as more people arrive at the park you're more likely to get a full train, thus more mass in the train, more momentum, and more speed. Though admittedly, I've never ridden the Beast with a non-full train...
When I go to Kings Island it's for Diamondback and The Beast. I went Sunday and rode Diamondback a few times and then The Beast and I'd have to say this old wooden coaster still rocks. Sure doesn't film well though huh?
If you ride front seat at night when there's gnats wear glasses.
This is the first coaster I am getting on if I ever go out to Ohio. Built in 1979, the first steel looping coasters were being built around that time. Its the longest wooden roller coaster in the world. Likely to make a point that you could smash records, even if its not a steel coaster. Like with Son of Beast, 218 foot drop and the tallest wooden coaster in the world, At the same park, but under repairs.
@NationofBrian I rode it after they took the loop out, do you know when they shut it down for good? i think it was 2009 when i went with my church youth group.
One of the best wooden coasters I've been on. My first ride on the Beast was at night around the park closing time in Sept of '07. There's nothing like it at all as it's in the woods with absolutely nothing lighting up the ride. Definately in my top ten in the wooden catagory right next to The Voyage at Holiday World near Santa Clause, IN.
You are so right. One of the best experiences on the planet is riding the BEAST, front car, at night. Absolutely unbelievable. I live in Louisville (2 hours away from Kings Island) and I would wait all day long just to make sure I got the front car at night on this ride. AMAZING!! Haven't been to Holiday World yet.
Holiday World is about 90 miles west of Louisville just off I-64. It's home to three great wooden roller coasters including the #1 wooden roller coaster in the world called The Voyage. The other two aren't bad as well as they're all in the top 15 for best wooden coaster in the world. Also, the ticket prices are very reasonable and they gave me $10 off when I showed them my coaster club membership card when I was there in 2007.
Dont forget to put Shivering Timbers in Muskeegon, MI in your top ten wooden coasters. It was the #1 Wooden Coaster in America from 2003 to 2006. My all time favorite coaster.
I've got the world's longest woodie in my pants.
