haha this is cool... Who the hell needs guitar and drums anyway... I'd love to hear how a band would sound with 3 people on bass doing different things like you did in this by yourself. I enjoyed this video, so I thank you.
@SuperJoel193 you should check out some of the stuff that victor wooten and steve bailey did together, it's 2 basses and drums; not exactly 3 bassists but impressive none the less. a good example is "a chick from corea"
It appears that way but it's actually not- my hands/forearms are oddly shaped and looked painfully twisted when they're barely bent at all. I also keep my plucking wrist just barely bent- I try to avoid bending my wrists as much as possible as a parent of mine had to get carpal tunnel surgery. They actually bend the most when getting high on the neck.
In this video I was using a Boss RC-20XL loop station. I now use a Looperlative looper for all of my looping stuff, but the Boss pedal is very useful for the price.
A heavy attack is still easily produced by plucking upwards through the string or playing over another area where the ramp is not located. It's possible for a ramp to let you play faster, as your recovery time after plucking the string is shortened, but that depends on the player. Its benefits are often more noticable if you're using three or four fingers to pluck with. Consistency is the biggest problem when using so many fingers, and a ramp can be a big help in that.
The real benefits of a ramp (to me anyways) are a consistent attack with a quick recovery time because your fingers are only allowed to go in as deep as the ramp is. Without using a ramp, your fingers go in however much distance they do with each stroke. With a radiused ramp, they all go in the same depth, so your plucking depth and recovery time is equal for all your strokes, and a ramp that is close to the strings can limit the amount you dig in, facilitating a lighter attack.
why dont people get the harmonic thing. there is no wrong note in music, as there is no set time to play a note. thats wot makes music. great vid also , keep them coming
That's a ramp attached to it. I have them on all of my basses. A ramp is a block of wood radiused to match the fretboard radius- it allows your fingers to maintain a consistent shallow plucking depth, allowing for faster recovery and making multifinger plucking quite a lot easier.
Just came across your videos. Glad I did!
This is one of my favorite songs you play.

At that point I had removed the preinstalled ones and was going to put in some Dunlop strap locks, but hadn't drilled the slightly larger holes yet.

The ramp was indeed a homemade one I made out of plywood and radiused with a sander- definitely not a pro job like my other ones :D

nice ramp, what kind of wood did you make it out of?
Rickenbrad 4 years ago
great! the ramp was made by you or you bougth it? looks like home made
maturanesa 4 years ago
The ramp (the piece of wood) is below the position of where I pop my strings, so it doesn't interfere atall.
bryanrtyler 4 years ago
What is the ramp for?
bassist4dalord 4 years ago
dose that peace of wood not make it hard to pop aggressively?

Thats what I was implying by saying you have to know how to listen to music for it to sound right.
To someone who isnt familiar with music it would sound oddly timed, or like it doesnt fit.
goldmember123 5 years ago
you are very tallent, i spend your music listen everywere...
damnbassreznor 5 years ago
I actually like the odd timed harmonic.
I noticed a couple people said they didnt like it.
But you have to know how to listen to music for it to sound right.
5/5 yet again.

I love this, it's really catchy, the only thing I dislike about is is the odd timed harmonic, other than that I can't at all complain.
