@amsuarez2008 Waka waka first of all is an African expression which she incorporated into a song about soccer, which was held in the summer. Usually soccer songs are very summery and dancey and energetic, they're not love ballads with profound meaning. The She Wolf album flopped because of lack of publicity/marketing. It was Gaga's year and Shak was not being promoted but it is one of her best as the music is very layered and full of variation, which is very different from mainstream music.
@amsuarez2008 And I suppose maybe that's another reason it failed (not too mainstream, a little weird and with a lot of idiosyncrasies). She has said that she is trying to solidify her career in the mainstream because she wants to continue financing her different humanitarian projects and to do that she needs big bucks, and hey, if she spends that much on promoting so many positive ideas and projects I do not mind her going mainstream one bit. She'd be one person I'd support. And I love JLo :)
@sassymonsterO "Sale el sol" is currently at #129 on Billboard 200. I wouldn't call that a chart success. That's a good standard for a latin artist. And "Loca" is not even on the Hot 100, of course she rules on every latin chart, which I do think she deserves her success.

I just wanted to make my point that Shakira makes better music than Lopez, if you ever go to any of her concerts.... i doubt you will found a woman as much of an artist as Shakira is. I'm sure the music on Sale el sol is good (yet to listen to it) but i find it obvious that spanish music will obviously always gain more success in spanish-speaking markets.
All what J Lo has done is fantastic, she is a legend now, I mean, the work she has done showing a particular context where she also admits that there's another lifestyle and culture apart of the conventional white pop, and also that two or three cultures can be together and share the same space is real a big thing. definetely, one of the best singers on the world.

Her Spanish isn't perfect, but that's to be expected with a lot of second and third generation Latinos/as. At least she embraces her heritage. I think she's a pretty decent role model for young latinas, too. Um, and she's gorgeous! Despite the reports of her diva-ness, there's something supremely likeable about her.

It's not like Spanish from Mexico is a different language than Puerto Rican Spanish just like British English isn't all that different from American English. The difference is only one of accent.

Hips don't lie? Now her sales are good enough for any latin artist in the states, so I think she must be satisfied with that. Her competitors Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kesha and Taylor Swift are ruling the charts today. Time's gone for the pop lain diva, next one...

@sassymonsterO no one sells as much as they used to anymore, Shakira is always invited to important events and you people really have no recollection of what a flop really is, I'm sure the woman has higher goals in life than always being on top, there are just more important things. and if you notice most of the music on top is manufactured crap that has been designed to fool people into buying it. most quality music never gets to the top. these are facts. just saying.

@sassymonsterO Shakira cannot be taken seriously, she has to show her tits and ass and shaking her hips everyhwhere to sell a record. That's not serious at all. And most quality music sometimes gets to the top, ie The Beatles, Rolling Stones, U2, Madonna... plenty of examples. And she barely writes her music, she needs to duet with famous rappers in order to get some attention. She was just another pop sensation that now is out of the spot. I'm pretty sure you won't remember her in 2 years

@amsuarez2008 That's the most ridiculous thing I've read. Have you ever seen Shakira in concert? Live? She is talented and authentic without much backup help or crazy props - just her alone usually. And her music is a mosaic of different styles. Her latest album might have flopped but she reigned for 10 years as THE queen of latin sound, in and out of the US. She was a rocker before she crossed over and wrote her own stuff and she's a humanitarian with a lot of serious projects.

And no, I haven't been in any of her concerts, I cannot listen to someone who has a song called "Waka Waka", Shakespeare would have enjoyed reading such deep and emotional poetry

@amsuarez2008 Waka waka first of all is an African expression which she incorporated into a song about soccer, which was held in the summer. Usually soccer songs are very summery and dancey and energetic, they're not love ballads with profound meaning. The She Wolf album flopped because of lack of publicity/marketing. It was Gaga's year and Shak was not being promoted but it is one of her best as the music is very layered and full of variation, which is very different from mainstream music.

@amsuarez2008 And I suppose maybe that's another reason it failed (not too mainstream, a little weird and with a lot of idiosyncrasies). She has said that she is trying to solidify her career in the mainstream because she wants to continue financing her different humanitarian projects and to do that she needs big bucks, and hey, if she spends that much on promoting so many positive ideas and projects I do not mind her going mainstream one bit. She'd be one person I'd support. And I love JLo :)

@sassymonsterO "Sale el sol" is currently at #129 on Billboard 200. I wouldn't call that a chart success. That's a good standard for a latin artist. And "Loca" is not even on the Hot 100, of course she rules on every latin chart, which I do think she deserves her success.

I just wanted to make my point that Shakira makes better music than Lopez, if you ever go to any of her concerts.... i doubt you will found a woman as much of an artist as Shakira is. I'm sure the music on Sale el sol is good (yet to listen to it) but i find it obvious that spanish music will obviously always gain more success in spanish-speaking markets.

All what J Lo has done is fantastic, she is a legend now, I mean, the work she has done showing a particular context where she also admits that there's another lifestyle and culture apart of the conventional white pop, and also that two or three cultures can be together and share the same space is real a big thing. definetely, one of the best singers on the world.

Her Spanish isn't perfect, but that's to be expected with a lot of second and third generation Latinos/as. At least she embraces her heritage. I think she's a pretty decent role model for young latinas, too. Um, and she's gorgeous! Despite the reports of her diva-ness, there's something supremely likeable about her.

It's not like Spanish from Mexico is a different language than Puerto Rican Spanish just like British English isn't all that different from American English. The difference is only one of accent.
