Prior to my being deployed to Vietnam in 1967, I was stationed in Marine Barracks Philadelphia. I had the honor and extremely emotional duty of personally escorting the remains of seven fallen Marines back to the homes of their respective families. I handed flags to seven grieving mothers. The Corp is the smallest branch of our Military and they don't always have the latest and greatest equipment, but they make do. I was in the Navy but I respect all of our branches. I thank God I didn't have to go into the desert and that I was relatively safe on board ship. I will never forget when i was driving down the road and and the cemetery to my left i saw a funeral and the Marines where folding the flag about the bury the grave or something and i just kept looking and im pretty sure a Marine looked at me because we were close to him. Marines, we are given so much shit because we are to rowdy or to rough to others. We are the only branch in the military that others try to become like us, civilian or not. Marines are the fuck ups of society, the drug users, those who were outcasts. When they join the marines, they are turned into great men, with high morals and tradition, and are part of a family. The Corp is the smallest branch of our Military and they don't always have the latest and greatest equipment, but they make do. I was in the Navy but I respect all of our branches. I thank God I didn't have to go into the desert and that I was relatively safe on board ship. I will never forget when i was driving down the road and and the cemetery to my left i saw a funeral and the Marines where folding the flag about the bury the grave or something and i just kept looking and im pretty sure a Marine looked at me because we were close to him.
