Nice job! You have a lot more views than YouTube's count; this was shown at the beginning of the Ash Wed. sermon yesterday (actual views: about 200; YouTube count: 0). Concluding his sermon, the pastor said, "I'll bet all you remember is the YouTube video." Yep!
@HonorableMinisterRay - what a sad man you must be. The Catholic Church started whatever "Christian" denomination to which you belong. You forget your past in your hatred.
This is great. I've never fully understood Lent as I don't come from a religious background, so this is quite helpful and intriguing. Thanks very much for sharing.
This is absolutely great!! Wish I had seen it last week...would've loved to have shown it to my CCE class....very suitable for middle and high school students!!
Luke 9:23 Deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me. Was Jesus talking about torture or about the Omer? The ancient cross was a scale to weigh food.
Fantastic... but I had to push the pause botton several times to be able to read and understand. I get the point of doing it in 2 minutes, but then is there really a purpose to share a message? It doesn't have to be in 2 minutes. I am sure people would like it even if it would take 4 minutes. ,-)
@RikiSmiley Today's world is fast-paced. As a young adult, I know for a fact that it would be less-appealing for someone who didn't know what Ash Wednesday was to watch the video if it were more than 2 minutes. That's why they put it in the title, so that it's immediately appealing as being quick and to the point. For preaching the Gospel in the real world of 2012, they did a great job.
@musicman0209 Hi :-) Yes, I understand that it goes with the title and, maybe, the fact that it is fast-paced, it will attract those letting themselves go with this pace. Maybe then, if their hearts are touched, they might want to slow down and deepen the message. Sadly enough, if we keep face-paced our hearts and souls cannot deepen enough. That is the sickness of this generation. And, let's not patronise young people. Lots of them do like to slow down. We all need it! ,-)
Great up beat message'- What a fantanstic day- Ash Wednesday people!! Ive thought long and hard and I have given up meat and smoking' for lent- I will also be fasting'- Exciting times to reflect on Jesus' and to be a part of my community. I have prayed last night to God and asked for the strengh to give up smoking and to help release me of my addiction. I was smoking a pack a day and pysically had anxiety when I was down to my last ciggerette. THIS MORNING NOT ONE CRAVING. NOTHING. wahooooooooo!
I love this, but I really think this needs to be SLOWED down. We also need to realize that we can use this website to educate our children, but not at this rate.
@cheragotti54 Children are open to religious education. Today's teen and adult world is super fast-paced and so this video does an excellent job of teaching to those, living in the real world of 2012, who otherwise may not know.
THANK YOU for such and upbeat and TRUE video about our faith. God bless you for keeping young people involved in the media of our age. Thank you for allowing their God-given creative talents be shared with the world! THANK YOU!
To all the "slow it down" people - Uh, that would kind of defeat the purpose of "Ash Wednesday and Lent in TWO MINUTES". Geez, could you miss the point more?? Get the slowed down version from your Priest or Rector during a sermon. Keep up the fine work, busted halo!
I could not keep up and was glad to see in the comments that it was not just because I am over 50. Just a bit slower would be good. This is excellent otherwise.
@Stacychuck1 In today's 2012 world, everything for teens and young adults is fast-paced, which is exactly why they even made it clear in the title that this video would be a quick tutorial. This is exactly what we need in a world which (sadly) has 'no time' for things of this nature. They did well!
Well done! Comprehensive and motivating. Glad to see you encourage all Christians to join our Catholic brothers and sisters and participate in this spiritual heritage.
Catchy, tuneful, engaging, good beat, and rhythmic and very, very informative. Great Work Busted Halo Project Mgr. Joe Williams! Congratulations. We can all bounce our way through Lent--this joyful season!
Catchy, tuneful, engaging, good beat, and rhythmic and very, very informative. Great Work Busted Halo Project Mgr. Joe Williams! Congratulations. We can all boune our way through Lent--this joyful season!
lidia, that's part of the fun, seeing two sides of something. I happen to be a music/worship director for a Catholic parish. I amuse myself pointing out contradictions, but the real fun is the responses. Amazingly, the more "training" a person has (degrees, etc.), the sharper the curves on the circle logic. Lent is mainly what we all make of it. Enjoy yours!
White Leather, It's interesting how two people can see two different things in the same scripture! On Ash Wednesday, I do not look gloomy, I do not neglect my appearance, I wash my face, put on nice clothes, anoint my head with hair products galore, and I wear the sign of the cross on my forehead as a sign that I my repentance is because of Christ. I see no irony or contradiction.
They are really mourning for Tamuz and the goddess Ashtoreth(aserah pole in front of St Peter's) for forty days then they celebrate with hot cross buns aka sacred raisin cakes with the cross as the sign of Tamuz worship. "The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes of bread for the Queen of Heaven." Jeremiah 7:18
I know, lidiapurple. But to me, that's the irony. Poor choice of gospel readings, I'd say. Someone else pointed out that the gospel reading for Immaculate Conception contains a similar misleading. Aren't there any other gospels instead of this Matthew reading that we could use? I'd think so, but I don't have a particular one in mind.
Did you know that on Ash Wednesday services, our Gospel reading is Matthew 6:16-18?
Biblically, a mark on the forehead is a symbol of ownership. By having his forehead marked with the sign of a cross, a person symbolizes that he belongs to Jesus Christ, who died on a cross. This is in imitation of Romans 6:3-18, the spiritual mark or seal that is put on a Christian in baptism, when he is delivered from slavery to sin and the devil and made a slave of righteousness and Christ .
Here's a major contradiction: the Gospel of Ash Wednesday. From Matthew 6, vs. 16-18: "When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you."
@WhiteLeather -- The fasting the day of and after the ashes. The fasting will continue during the lent season, and our fasting is not seen by others, nor is a mourning face. As biblically instructed Catholics have annointed their head and will wash their face. Incidentally, I received my ashes today smiling, not with a mourning face! Instead of trying to find fault in others, perhaps you could spend more time praying and concerning yourself with your own sin and contradictions.
Great video, but it'd be really helpful if you added a link to the Lent calendar. :)
