  • i remember when this song came out in '91 on mtv, it was and still is awesome!!.... aaahhh the good'ol 90s lol

  • My Favorite LIVE song by far!

  • let it go !! my friend. whoever you may be...

  • this was my first video i saw of these guys n it kicks ass

  • Live is one of my favorite bands of all time. Mental Jewelry is still their best album.

  • Mental jewelry: great cd.

  • mental jewelry is by far the best live album...the intensity still moves me......i think they lost some of their raw power on later albums, which felt more polished/studio-friendly. This song is killer.

  • this is a great song!

  • wish someone would put /find a high quality visual versioin of this video. The pizelization is so awful on this one but still...my favorite LIVE song.

  • Mark W Joyner is asking you 'To what words exactly do they change to in concert'? Let me guess-- it's the part whee they say what Jesus said 2000 years ago means nothing to me today-- is one of the versuses they change? More than likely if this is so it is because of how they emotionally (not logically) were effected by the bullshit pertaining to that 911 shit.

  • "on fire w/ youth and enthusiasm". this is my favorite period in the history of Live.

  • you're totally right. They lost it pretty soon after this. Now they even change the lyrics to this song in concert.

  • isso que é som o resto é o resto

  • Lots of energy in this song, which is what music today lacks unfortunatly.

  • What a world this would be if we had this song blasting at top volume!

Way before its time Mental Jewelry was a rocking deep spiritual album. It transcends time and would hit the top charts today.

I was rocking out to this in the 80s and nothing has changed, it still rocks and this song demands your attention!

    Pease to you all!

  • this record came out in 91. Did they have a EP or something before that with this on it? - Anyway, great tune indeed. Actually, I only like mental jewelry. A few tunes on the other albums are pretty good, but this was their best record.

  • Only 22,000 views....sad for such a great song

  • is the drummer chad gracey here? he looks different

  • Yeah - they all got fat after this record. lol

    ;)

  • this is music at its best...fuckin great song

  • This song alone is way better than throwing copper album.

yeah, mtv is all about smutty underage kids whinning about how good they got it. Basically its underage softporn=MTV

  • agreed.

  • Brothers...These were the days. What happened to Mtv and music in general. Where have the artists gone, and where's the creativity? I remember when this came out on buzz clip. It stuck in my head for like 15 years! I was never able to find this.

What an amazing song, and era. I'm still a young dude and go out often. However, the 90's were the best. Can't we go back?

  • exactly. here it is 2009. here i am, on youtube, wanting to listening something solid and good. this was my FIRST pick. so organic & hungry. solid. -d.

  • There are plenty of good records out there today - by good I mean the '90's buzz clip sound you're talking about. The problem is, that sound isn't as fashionable so we have to go digging around for it. I just heard the new single from the Silvesun Pickups today and it sounds great.

  • THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO! I fell in love with Live in college (yikes!) and, in my EARLY 40's, still love their talent! Excellent find~HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! :O)

  • we need this song on GUITAR HERO !!

  • this is the only live song i like ive had th chorus stuck in my head for years since it was a premiere on mtv and i could never find it kick ass song

  • This video is what made me go buy the Mental Jewelry CD and I wasn't disappointed. Every song is great.

  • This was on the Buzz Clip back when Mtv was a music channel. This clip came out in 1991 on 120 and to this day mental jewelry is one of my top 25 albums of all time. 1991 was a great year in music.. wow, Nirvana, Neds Atomic Dustbin, Teenage Fanclub, Afghan Whigs and so many other bands.

  • I haven't heard the term "Buzz Clip" in decades.

Back when MTV was MTV and mainstream music was good.

  • I remember when this was a world premiere video on 120 Minutes many years ago. Also, I think Edward was 16 when they did this.

  • MTV died when 120 Min and Headbanger's Ball went away

  • Woow

    Live rules, man

5 stars, this song really rocks!

  • wow they were young in this video but he already had a strong voice

  • An anecdote of why I love this band:

My wife came in while I was listening to this recently and asked me with a disgusted and mortified look: "Why the fuck are you listening to christian rock?"

I laughed hysterically and played the lyric "Heard a lot of talk about this Jesus. . .but what a man was 2000 years ago means nothing at all to me today."

She fully appreciates this band now.

  • So when the song says, "Heard a lot of talk about the Ocean---sea" This also means nothing to them??????Ha!

I know LIVE is not a Christian band but many, many of thier songs talk about the belief of God.

    LIVE Rules!!!

  • Kowalczyk's quite a fan of Krishnamurti, which puts him far, far from any organized faith. Look him up. :)

  • Would you call him a "freak??":)

  • There are also live versions of this song after Ed's religious awakening where they alter the lyrics of this song. They change the lyric you're talking about.

  • Check out Live doing Operation spirit Wallingford CT. You'll see the change in lyrics.

  • live's bass player kicks major ass... it's been a long since I've heard this .. but.. man.. what a song.. what a bass line!

  • I always seen their first album as their best bass album. I used to refer to it as "The Bass Album". lol.

  • From an album perspective this blows away anything they did after. Like so many bands in the beginning (Pearl Jam) etc. They had the hunger and the fire and then they loose the fire when they make a few bucks and that inspiration disappears and so does the band. Throwing copper was so "forced" sounding. This was real.

  • That's because they have contracts with record labels where they have to release x number of albums for a period of time and they force themselves to release, and it waters down the quality

  • Not to mention (depending on how much control the record company has) they can tell the band they don't like what the band originally came up with and that they want more mainstream songs.

  • No, that's not it at all. If anything, that creates better work; bands in the 60's and 70's put an album out a year. Here's how it works - all these bands' 1st albums are closely watched and controlled, by the label and top-notch producers. Once a band 'makes it' and starts making money, they get more control/clout and are able to call more shots, which is usually a bad thing - producers are there for a reason, but musicians (myself included) do not like taking orders concerning their art.

  • sux donut.... seems that gold fever can infect everyone.. hope that dont happen to us...

  • So totally agree....you hit it dead on, couldn't have said it better.

  • Completely agree, this whole band kicked serious fucking ass back in the day. You can tell the bass player was listening to some the ole RHCP when he was perfecting his craft :-). I believe this was their first radio single...damn fine song, so much passion.

  • Great Song! Kinda surprised I still remember all the lyrics after so many years.

  • Best band of the 90s -- period.

  • Best band of the 1990s -- period.

  • is it safe to say live reminds me of R.E.M. back when they first came out with mental jewelry?

  • i resent the comparison. live had fire, youth and spirit. rem had none of that. just nice curly hair and some social politics. ed kowalczyk was an uncaged animal until stipe sodomized him into gaiety.

  • Throwing Copper was best. All songs were #1.

  • Live's best album was Throwing Copper. Almost every single song was #1 and there was not even one suck song. The Dam At Otter Creek, on the album/cd, is where the band has a total orgasim with their instruments.

  • Mental Jewelry was their best album! I still love their passion!

  • I agree with you, pure and untamed. Love the song 10.000 Years (piece is now), isnt on u tube though.

  • So true. Mental Jewelry was their best. Personally I don't even like anything else by them.

  • Fair enough???? ed has hair. rock on you non balding polak

  • Holy shit the polak has a head of hair!!!! He looks so much better with hair I have to admit... and the song rocks too

  • Been folliwing them since 1991 - promoted them in Buffalo back then at UB.

  • great band.. just great.. too bad not so known at least here in "euroland!"

  • I haven't seen this video for years thanks.

  • great band, great video, great song

  • love this song so much
