Never could pull of the moves in this. The street fighter games on other systems, I could kick ass at 8 stars, but this, nothing. I never got past the third fighter without using an emulator and cheating with save states.
It was called Street Fighter for the arcade and Fighting Street for the Turbo Grafx CD. The music you hear was only available on the TG version and sounds 100x better. I still remember the receipt from when my mom bought this along with the Turbo Grafx CD at Toys R Us back in 1990: $492 !!!
This was rated on the Australian game ratings board for a Wii Virtual Console release. Hope it comes out in America. It's the only home port we got, aside from the rare Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2.
hi ,I have a question you may be able to answer. I have just bought after looking for ages! a new boxed turbografx, up to the point it arrived I allways thought it was called the Turbogrfx-16? (as it is described all over the place) but no-where on the box is the ident "16" used? just "turbografx" any ideas? or other unfo? cheers
This really was Street Fighter (1). I remember it in the arcade and played it on turbografx (the only system that had it). Both versions were awful. Then Street Fighter 2 came out and it made history. Obviously SF2 was a way better game. I always thought they should release some of the forgotten bosses in this game on a new SF (aside from Sagat of course).
Does anyone know if Capcom released an audio CD version of this soundtrack? I loved the music. I would play a level and pause it just to listen to the music when I was a kid.
..the only good thing about this is the music.I actually enjoy the arcade version!I remember when I beat it!We with both one hit away, violently jumping back and forth, throwing rapid kicks and punches in the air, then he lunged at me,I was madly pressing the controls and the punch button.Suddenly,KAPOW!I dragon-punch him right on the chest!Victory!Well,at least it had a different line once I beat him.
Actually, Capcom abandoned the series after it failed in arcades. That's why the name changed when Hudson acquired it. Fighting Street was fairly successful, and that's why Capcom brought it back.
oh yes, i remember being misled by that movie's title (and this was before Universal made that horrible Street Fighter movie starring the late Raul Julia)
I beat the arcade version of this once... what a bitch that is to do. The special moves are almost impossible to pull off, but they do massive damage (2 will kill an opponent). The controls are... awful.

Why couldn't they change the name to Street Fighting?
and why is Ryu's Hair Red????
SSCode09 1 year ago
@SSCode09 Ryu's hair was red in the original arcade version aswell. It's only in Street Fighter 2 that Capcom changed it.

I can't believe this is Street Fighter 1, and look at how good even SF2 World Warrior is in comparison to this!!

It's like the arcade version, only it sucks even more!

"Fighting Street" makes zero sense!!! call it "Street Fighter 16" instead.

Proof that Street Fighter II is pretty much the greatest video game sequel ever made.

TACTICS: Easy Special Moves + Stage Select + 7 Credits
Get a high score, and input ".SD"as your initials (look out for the . dot)
At the title screen, hold LEFT + I + II then press SELECT
If 'CREDIT 7' appears at the bottom of the screen, the trick has worked.
Starting the game opens the 'Stage Select', and during the game, press:
Forward + Select for 'Ha Dō Ken'
Down-forward + Select for 'Shō Ryu Ken'
Away + Select for 'Tatsumaki Sempū Kyaku'

Special moves are done by doing Negative Edge. After you get that down it's easy because they take off so much energy. :)

Fighting street? I think this is just a poorly translated version of the original "Street fighter".

When the original Street Fighter was ported over to the TurboGrafx-16, it was renamed "Fighting Street"

Yeah I realize I was being a dumbass.
But one question remains,
why?

The music was much better than the arcade which was nothing but high pitched blips and bloops.

And it still looks broken as shit.
Then again it's turbografx, and capcom hasn't made a single attempt to make it better since it's release.

Yes they did actually. Street Fighter Alpha.

In the arcades it was called Street Fighter. Hudson or maybe someone at Capcom wanted to be smart asses and change the title to Fighting Street.
snake2006 4 years ago
Maybe they knew it was a shitty port and didn't want it involved in the Street Fighter series.

The name was changed because of copyright issues. The is a Japanese action movie out there called Street Fighter which Sonny Chiba starred in.
