  • Yeah the so called "Catch 2" didnt mean anything as the Niners lost the following week to the Falcons.

  • The birth of T.O....

  • The only time in my life I screamed uncontrollably from excitement.

  • Then the Niners lost the next week. History repeats itself?!?!?!?!?

  • I cant believe how similar today's game was to this. Alex to VD , Young to Owens. Owens runs to his coach in tears of emotion and joy, VD doing the same thing with Harbaugh!! Thats crazy something special.

  • Smith to Davis.........just another amazing repeat.

  • I had to come and see this touchdown today. The minute I saw the Vernon Davis TD in the last seconds of the playoff game today for the Niners / Saints, I thought of this touchdown. Congratulations, Niners !!!! Playing for the NFC Championship next week, and if ever a team had heart since this '98 team under Mooch, it is Jim Harbaugh's team this year. WOW!!!!!

  • yeaaaa i said the same thing!! soon as davis caught it then took his helmet off cried and hug his coach!! watch that game when i was a kid now im a man and i cant wait to share this with my kids

  • Alex Smith to Vernon Davis!!

  • Soon as Vernon Davis caught the ball, instantly reminded me of Owens' catch beating my Packers. Deja vu for the 49ers

  • it happened again bitches

  • Identical to VD's catch. YEAHHH

    BOYYYYYY

  • TODAY HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF WITH Vernon Davis's catch for the win! 1/14/2012

  • @rg1025 yahoo much?

  • deja vu vernon davis

  • Alex Smith will throw to make "The Catch #3" against Green Bay in the Playoffs

  • @hightechboss1 except he'll be throwing to Woodson for 6 lol

  • @yetaca I didn't know Charles Woodson was on the Giants...

  • @faceurhell he cloned himself while simultaneously assuming the body of Antrell Rolle lol

  • Thumbs up if Alex Smith to Vernon Davis sent you here!

  • @dds2190 me lol

  • @hightechboss1 you almost predicted the future! (wrong team though haha)

  • Alex Smith to Crabtree this year? maybe???

  • Epic!

  • OWENS MADE THE CATCH!

  • [1998"The Catch II"] + [2004 - "4th& 26"] + [2010 - "Beast Mode's 67yd run"] = Darren Sharper (#42) FAILS at all of them.

  • @xaqshuna2003 Thanks for pointing that out. Did not realize that. LOL!!!!

  • @xaqshuna2003 damn thats true! lol.

  • goddamnit I cry every time I see this. so beautiful.

  • goddamnit I cry every time I see this.

  • this is when terrell owens became T.O.

  • Still remember this like yesterday...oh I will never forget this.

  • People rip Joe Buck for his calls because he doesn't get emotional, he keeps his head. Pat Summerall is showing how national broadcasters should call moments like this - Joe Buck is merely doing it right.

  • where the emotion dammit!!!!

  • that play i will never will forget. as a inner fans we wornt eater.

  • To Packer fans tore up about Rice's non-call everywhere: I'll just point out the Pack's fake win on MNF when Don Beebe was handed a TD after his knee was down around midfield and he was touched by a 49er player. Aren't paybacks a bitch?

  • It will be written on my gravestone that Rice Fumbled.

  • @RDarth lol mine gonna say OWENS!!!!!! OWENS!!!!! OWENS MAKES THE CATCH!

  • @dodirty9to5

Haha. Epic game though. Got a lot of respect for the 49ers.

  • Jerry Rice fumble, notwithstanding, there is no excuse for letting a single receiver split a zone defense like that.

  • Jerry Rice fumbled, and you all know it.

  • @gallowspole Yeah and lets count how many botched calls and cheap shots the packers got away with against the Niners before that in those previous years. Remember the monday night game where the Packer receiver was touched by TWO Niner defenders after going down during a reception yet a whistle never blew and he was allowed to run and score? i got more if ya want. The niners were owed one, shut up and eat it.

  • Glad you 49ers fans enjoyed this win. Too bad this is pretty much the only time the niners beat us in the last 20 years.

We managed to get our revenge on the Niners for this game: the 2005 draft.

  • @mikepuppetz9 Well get you back in a few weeks. Be ready

  • Yes, Rice fumbled.

It didn't seem to be such a Big Thing then, but we, as Packer fans, didn't know that the Pack, after a watershed year with Rhodes, were going to have our team turned over to Mike Sherman, and his soft-soap approach to corralling Favre, and waste the early 2000's on embarrassing exits from the playoffs. It wouldn't be for another decade, and a bitter divorce with Favre, for the Pack to get back on track. We just didn't realize just how bad Favre was going to be in big games.

  • @toolkien dear tool shed: favre is one of the 10 greatest qb' s in nfl history. and for packer fans, more importantly than that, he brot them back to their glory days. or would u rather have prolonged the days of jerry tagge, scott hunter and john hadl and co?? u talk about paying the price, favre has paid it. gbp fans shd kiss his ass and say it smells like roses.

  • @toolkien dear tool shed:ill send it again----favre is 1 of the 10 greatest qbs in nfl history. he brot them back the glory days almost single handedly. packer fans shd line up and kiss his rear end and say it smells like roses.

  • Too bad they lost to Dem Dirty Birds in the ATL the next week! :)

  • the second best wide reciever to ever play in the NFL

  • @SuperRyan413 No. Don Hutson was the 2nd greatest receiver in NFL history.

  • @OceanWave78 shut up...

  • I LOVED this play when it originally aired, and I still love this play and smile whenever I see to THIS day. :)

  • yall see a young D Sharper get violated this tops G lewis anyday to quote Lebron puppet POSTSEASON

  • The 1990s was an astonishing decade -

    The Cowboys-49ers-Packers triangle.

The Rise, Fall, and Rebirth of the Houston Oilers/Tennesee Titans

The Rise of the New England Patriots

    The rebirth of the Steelers

The run of the Marino Dolphins and the Kelly/Flutie Bills

The birth of the Panthers and the Jaguars

    The rebirth of Baltimore football.

  • @STP43FAN1 I like that. I like how you put it that way. Even though the 9ers could not get past the PAckers but I like how you put it that way

  • THOSE were the days!

Packer fans, Cowboy fans, fellow 49er fans...weren't the 1990s INCREDIBLE!

    WE RULED FOOTBALL!

    FARVE + AIKMAN + YOUNG!

AND JOHN MADDEN AND PAT SUMMERALL CALLING ALL THE GAMES!

THOSE WERE THE DAYS...JOHN+PAT+DAL+GB+SF=MY NFL CHILDHOOD!

  • @obiwanobiwan13 You couldn't be more dead on.....Madden & Summerall were awesom....Pat knew how to let the video do the talking....he never spoke over the action. Young-Favre-Aikman....great times indeed

  • @obiwanobiwan13 bro you couldnt of said it any better my friend!:))

  • @obiwanobiwan13 as a Minnesota guy - We got used to them calling Vikings games in 1998, 99, and 00. Classic years for football

  • @obiwanobiwan13 Get ready, my friend... we're back!

  • @Enygma702 I know! :D

    Montana-to-Clark=The Catch!

    Young-to-TO.O.=The Catch II!

    And now...

ALEX SMITH TO VERNON DAVIS=THE CATCH III!

30 years ago, the Cinderella Niners wonSuper Bowl 16...dare we dream...30 years later...Super Bowl 46...?! :D

  • darren sharper always went for the big hit, he never really got down on his tackling

  • nothing against darren sharper....but.....This! + 4th&26! + MarshawnLynch'sTD.....just saying....

  • it's hard to argue that steve young had a better career than joe montana, but i think he was the best quarterback of all time by far, including peyton manning and tom brady.

  • @petemanguy i don't, the best stuff is so subjective, but young lost to too many good quarterbacks to really give him that mantle. this defeat of the packers was on their decline, he didn't beat them when they were super bowl contenders and it took a third time against a beat up cowboy team to finally defeat Dallas in the playoffs.

Young is definitely a better leader and smarter quarterback than Favre and a better scrambler than Aikman, but Aikman was a smarter more accurate quarterback.

  • Steve Young is in my opinion the best QB in the history of the NFL

  • @gocelts34n7 why not..???? Montana or Young its the same... both of 49ers ! ! ! !

  • Brett Favre looks so sad at 0:20. Too bad he didn't have a camera equiped cell phone at the time to help ease his disappointment.

  • @SirReal1958

dude you don't even know what happened between him and the Jets lady that dresses like a hooker

  • TO is a crybaby

  • @ilovefrankandbeans Hey, that wasn't very nice of you to say. Terrell Owens simply teared up because he knew that he made the big play to FINALLY beat Green Bay in the playoffs after years of being eliminated by the Pack. I bet you never even played football. I never played football, but I know that the big plays will, from time to time, have a lot of emotion attached to them. Owens decided to show his. Nothing wrong with that. Just because he wept, it doesn't make him unmanly.

  • @FutureNewsAnchor T.O. cried about Tony Homo a few years back too...he is a crybaby

  • Brett Favre looks like Larry the Cable Guy. @:20

  • I miss Pat Summerall & Madden :-(

  • Not much excitement by Pat and John.

  • Terrell! you are one of the Greatest! Cheers to you and yours!

  • i was just only 6 years old when this game took place and i still remember it to this day

  • @jpoulivaati i hope you're just joking. Jerry's at the top celebrating when he catches the ball. He was one of the first to fall on top of him and congratulate him. You must be a Jerry hater

  • I miss Pat Summerall

  • Other than (maybe) Superbowl 42, this my favorite pro football game I've ever watched. Great throw and catch. I miss Summerall and Madden.

  • The Gapping hole defence

  • This is my favorite play in NFL history! That is why I love T.O. screw all the drama surrounding him this catch is what he is all about he always gives everything he has each and every week!!

  • Rice fumbled

  • @KennethKaniffFromCT What? Rice doesn't run a play in this video.

  • @fretter31 On the play right before this, Jerry Rice fumbled and the Packers recovered but Rice called down by contact. This was the year before instant replay came in the league so it couldn't be challenged. So the 49ers kinda lucked out.

  • Back before T.O. became a total diva.

  • And TO was on his way to becoming one of the best receivers in NFL History.

  • What a relief to get the Packer monkey of our back but this play was only meaningful for that reason. Losing to Atlanta makes this play alot less meaningful. We had a stacked team and blew it in Atlanta. I think this victory took all the energy the 49ers had to give and they couldnt recoup it before Atlanta.

  • @facestabber51

I have to respectfully disagree with your statement. The biggest reason they didn't beat Atlanta that next week was because 49er Star running back (Garrison Hearst) Broke his foot early in the game and was out. With no running game, it was uphill after that.

  • too bad hearst broke his ankle in the first play vrs the falcons.....

And the Falcons went to the SuperBowl for what.....

  • This was an incredible catch. Jerry Rice doesn't look thrilled.

  • Comment removed

  • unbelievable. i miss the 49ers. they need to get good again.

  • @cliffburton333 I agree, I LOVED the 49ers.. But they are going down hill now.

  • @djsushi69 is this the year the falcons went to the super bowl? i would have loved to see steve young vs john elway

  • @cliffburton333 what the vikings they were pretty hot this year young randy moss damn dallas for not signing him

  • @cliffburton333, I think so. They won this game and then lost to the Falcons the following week..

  • incredible

  • Steve young is the shit!!!

  • Steve Young, Bryant Young, Owens, Rice, Stokes, Hearst, Mariucci.....that was one hell of a team........please guys come back lol

  • Terrell Owens became "T.O" this day.

  • The niners better be glad there was no instant replay. Rice fumbled on that drive but the ref didn't see it.

  • 2:37-2:59 Pat and John=Truth

  • damn brett favre was chubby

  • I love the look on that fag Favres face!

  • Young was a man - nearly falls dropping back, rifles the ball standing on the 33 yard line with what looked like little effort, and hits the bullseye. TO had a death grip on that one. He wasn't dropping it for nuthin that time. I went nuts when I saw this live. Young vindicates all those Packers losses on one play.

  • that WAS terrel owens

  • I love how John Madden was incredulous... "whoa ho ha!"

  • @sillycon i was thinking the same thing lmfao

  • @sillycon i was thinking the same thing lmfao

    rip reggie white

  • God I hated Brett Favre back then!! But I loved Steve Young!!

  • 00:20 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Still gives me goose bumps every time I see this play. Finally getting over that green bay hump. Ah the good old days......

  • Get a good look at this the first and only time u see t.o. cry with passion b4 he becomes to a egotistcal douche bag lmao

  • @dellb73, yeah I think he was wearing cleats on a turf field n that was past of the reason it happened. Idk I was 8 yrs old at the time.

  • Right down the middle! LOL

  • Rice fumbled

  • TO was once human! One of the most amazing 4th quarter desperation comebacks

  • Man, I miss Pat Summerall.

  • that was a sweet throw and cach. good times

  • One of the best memories ever.....

  • I just loooovvee this memory. It was good to see the Niners finally got the monkey off their backs. I was excited when I first saw this.

  • wow great childhood memories here

  • But It Wld Of Never Happened If They Had The Review Cuz Rice Fumbled Right Before That

  • 0:21 to 0:23 = PRICELESS

  • @westfallsdead

lol that part cracks me up everytime I watch this clip

  • 1:53 andy reid in the background

  • @wackymac28 nice catch on that one.

  • The TO monster started that day.

  • but too bad that they would loose the div playoff game to the falcons

  • Steve threw to the village fool. Nice throw, nice catch. It can happen you know.

  • i jumped out of my seat and knocked all kinds of shit over when he made that catch

  • who cares if rice fumbled... green bay had gotten so many calls over the previous 4 years... karma is a b&tch green bay... don beebee mysterious non touch call on mnf in 96.... more and more...

  • This is the young and hungry T.O. that I liked.

  • it seems that what's lost on a lot of people is Jerry Rice fumbled the ball on that touchdown drive a few plays before, but he was called down. this happened to be the year before instant replay was put into effect if i'm not mistaken.

  • incredible game

  • man 1998 was amazing we shoulda gone to the super bowl that year

  • @joseluischapeton15 we would have if hearst had not gotten hurt in atlanta next week

  • @gntluvr If Hearst never got injured in Atlanta, the 49ers would've advanced to their 6th Super Bowl and WON. That team back in 1998 was their "last hurrah" to become champions.

  • But most of the time Favre usually made the big play to beat SF

    (including last year)

  • @vitoduval But not that year or the year before he became a Viking.

  • terrellowensdefense. o r g

  • I pray to five people everyday for good luck: Walsh, Montana, Young, Mariucci and Rice.

  • :21- I know I've seen that face somewhere else????.....hmmmm...oh yea!!! in New Orleans!!! haha

  • I miss this Terrell Owens. Back when he actually had a passion for the game.

  • man215...you keep talking about rogers like you have a mad crush on him......oh btw did you watch this video......we won this game...the video is about the game where the 49ers beat the packers.....you know where we won and you lost......like you know we scored more points...and we went to the next round...and you went home to count holes in your cheese......bz

  • Best game i've ever seen. one of those games you will tell your grandkids about.

  • If you think about it, this was really the end of an era for both teams. Young was finished next year, Hearst was never the same after his injury, Holmgren left for Seattle, and even the offensive playcaller for the Packers (a guy named Andy Reid) was gone. Yeah, both kept making the playoffs in future years, but it was never the same for either franchise.

  • the fumble

  • That was probably the last time Owens really showed true heart and showed that he actually cared about the game.

  • Rice fumbled , wasn't even close. Probably the biigest reason Instant replay was instituted the following season. Also Darren Sharper can suck my dick, look at his pathetic attempt on this play.

  • brett looked pissed

  • @Phawkers lol i know

  • Bad call on Jerry Rice fumble few plays earlier. The game should have been over then.

  • @astralchemist Doesn't matter. San Fran won the game. Go Niners!!!

  • to think he had all those drops in that game

  • Good ol Jerry Rice and T.O. getting it done

  • that was the same face Farve made when he lost to th Saints hahaha

  • It's the same crybaby face he always makes when he doesn't get his way. He "Just Loves The Game" except when he's losing.

I love seeing it -- and his true colors -- every time, and between this and the star stunt I willl NEVER be able to fully hate on T.O.

  • i think you mean when he lost to the refs

  • I remember when I was watching this game live during Green Bay's kickoff after the TD. When Preston cut up field at 3:07, I was thinking, "ohhhhhh noooooo" because he looked like he was about to take it all the way. Thankfully, Preston was tackled to end the game.

  • Farve's reaction at 0:19....priceless!

  • Joe Buck and Troy Aikman should study more of Pat Summerall and John Madden commentaries. Maybe Fox can be more interesting and fun to watch like in years past.

  • Madden said it right. That was amazing!

  • Lemme tell you, when niner fans watched this, they screamed so loud that you couldn't hear the announcers anyways.

  • The announcers let the crowd do the talking.

  • 0:09-0:11

    Madden at his best

  • This is when the 2 best announcers calling the game on FOX were around:

    Pat Summerall & John Madden

  • sports announcer sucked balls on that moment

  • @loganfonseca You take that back talking about Legends like Pat Somerall and John Madden

  • Yes they are legends but just listen to them when he catches it for a TD. So nonchalant. You would just think at a game with this magnitude as time expiring T.O. takes a shot by both defenders, still holds on to the ball and wins it.

  • On this play pat summerall makes joe buck look good lol

  • I was at this game in the first row of the upper deck at the Packers 10-yard line. I remember a couple of girls who I was sitting next to hugging me. Tears were in our whole row's and the rows behind us eyes. A very emotional day indeed. We could've taken the Falcons if Hearst had been healthy. The Broncos went on to destroy the Falcons in the Super Bowl a few weeks later...

  • yea that falcons game sucked....I think it was like the first play of the game he fucked up his ankle....we would have went to the superbowl....our team was STACKED

  • Comment removed

  • @hiphopguru81 True cause they would have beaten the Broncos.

  • T.O. had his best time while playing for the niners, too bad he left, the real problem with the 49ers nowadays is management, when Eddie Debartolo was in charge we were among the best teams in football. I really wish the Yorks would sell the team.

  • I was at that game. Old glory niner days.
