I know the systems are probably completely different, but why not. I just got Maya a few weeks ago and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I downloaded some rigs (Generi, Pug and Demon) and I'd like to try texturing. Any tips (if you know Maya)?

@koolkat104 I don't know much Maya, sorry. But I usually render the front, back and sides of a model in orthographic views to use as templates for creating the texture maps. Then layer the texture maps (with alpha channel masks) using the corresponding UWV mapping co-ordinates. If Maya has a kind of UVW unwrapping system, that would be even better. You can then separate the different parts of the model you need to map (colour coding them to start off with helps) and have them all in one image.

You can get 3ds Max from Autodesk, or an authorised Autodesk reseller, but it is VERY expensive! There are cheaper alternatives out there; some are even free, like Daz Studio or Blender (the latter is more fully featured, but harder to learn).
