@jacksonakd To put it simply, and I'm no music professor, but basically, if the beats of the song are going, "1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4", you're playing while thinking of a "1..2..1..2..1...2..1..2". A good example of this, on the song "Praise" by Sevendust, listen to the whole song. Then pay attention to 2:44, the drummer is playing in half-time. It sounds slower, but keeps in time with the guitar riff. That's the best explanation I can come up with.

Cliff Burton is good bassist cause he is a innovator, one of the earliest bass soloist and that's awesome, but awesome for that, not for his skills, tone or his few songs that he wrote, and he's overated cause he died too. Ellefson is really underated, his tone is amazing, his abilities on creation and riffs are absolutely fantastic. Thats my opinion

I love his basslines..they are music in themselves..

@white0nerdy No, it's a PJ bass. It has a Precision type split coil pickup in the neck position and a Jazz type single coil at the bridge. Best of both worlds.

@white0nerdy PJ is a pickup combination. Nearly all the companies (Ibanez, Fender, Washburn, Peavey, Yamaha etc.) offer instruments with PJ pickups. When two completely different pickup designs (single coil and split coil) are combined in different positions (neck + bridge) it dramatically increases the range of tones you can get out of your instrument.
