Swahili is probably the easiest language to learn. I was in Nairobi for only 3 months and I was speaking enough to carry long conversations by the end of my trip. I forgot all I learned now though. LOL I will see if Amharic is as easy. Hopefully it will be.

Mr. McCormick, sorry I don't have any constructive FB, just an admirer. Your Kiswahili sounds so beautiful! Maybe one day (if I can catch up) we can have a conversation. Has knowing Arabic helped? You'll also find out lots of European langauges are incorporated into it when you start learning them. (Can't wait for you to start on German!)

Actually Swahili comes from Arabic however; the grammar is completely different. Hence, it hasn't really helped me to learn Swahili. There are many vocabularies from Arabic which is nice though.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Swahili comes from Arabic," but they are not genetically unrelated. Swahili is in the Bantu language family and Arabic in the Afro-Asiatic language family. They share vocabulary because of contact through trade.
