no, i do not think you would have liked N.O. at that time or any part of american society. it was very racist then, they had brutal chattel slavery in most of america then. black people were treated like cattle & worst.
most whites were also victims of the inhuman evil system of racism, which brought out the worst in their character. and racism remains a scurge upon society today.
