  • The review of this movie is EXACTLY why "For Colored Girls" is so poignant! I'm 99% positive neither reviewer read Shange's play yet kept referring to it as some sort of litmus test to compare the movie to. I mockingly laughed when the reviewer said the women "just wallowed and could've shown strength". And the reference to 4 actresses who weren't in Precious was seriously a "WTF did she just say and where does she live" moment. On a scale of 1 through 10, these reviewers get a negative -2!

  • Whatever Rotten Tomatoes!

  • this was a wonderful movie and clearly you probably dont understand because you are not black ! and you dont go through as much as us black people do ! so cut the crap you guys have bullshit feed back !

  • GUYS DONT LISTEN TO THESE RACIST ASSHOLES SAYIN IT WAS GHETTO, IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE, BEAUTIFUL EMOTIONAL, AND GETS TO YOU, THIS MOIVE WON MANY AWARDS, AND EVERY ACTRESS WAS ON POINT, WHOOPI WAS VERY INTRESTING CHARACTER AND PHYLICIA WAS GREAT WITH HER POWERFUL WORDS AND THE SLUT GIRL WAS FUNNY, THIS MOVIE OFFERS LAUGHTER AND TEARS, 2 THUMBS UP!

  • What are they talking about . . . Janet was weak.

  • @DTTV1416 janet wasnt given much of a big part

  • Rotten Tomatoes needs to get some black Reviewers. Not saying that black Reviewers would have made this review any better but the movie was not for white ppl to like. It's called For Colored Girls not For White Women. So even if the movie was good White ppl still are not going to get it. So Get Black Reviewers to review black movies add A black reviewer.

  • @GILakaGP3 I'm black and I hated this movie

  • @sonicjrjr14 I do to. But I still think That this review should have been done by blacks

  • Notice... both are people who don't live this kind life and may not know people who live through what these women live through. Pisses me off... this review. But they are entitled to their opinion. i normally like Rotten Tomatoes but in this instance they are being insensitive.

  • They stupid for sayin that

  • What a god awful review from such an unintelligent couple of people. ignorance ISNT Bliss

  • @gilchristb1 you should know that better than these two

  • Lol all of tyler perrys fans are pissed yet again.

  • Experts???? Thats a joke right?

  • I can't say I disagree with the review completely. I absolutely LOVE this play but the adaptation to film was a disappoint. Some performances soared and others certainly sank. The movie script didn't completely do this tremendous play justice. T

  • Okay, here are my problems with this review:

    1. All of the cast did great, and the only reason they were like "High School Audition Pieces" were because they were monologues (PART OF THE FREAKIN' PLAY)

    2. Just because Whoopi Goldberg has been away from acting doesn't automatically mean she's "gotten rusty"; she did phenomenal.

    3. "it just focuses on what a pity their lives are." Well, so does the poem, but it still conveys a sense of strength in pulling through these hard times.

  • This show was great when it had its own time slot and used citizen reviewers. I barely watched when they had "expert" critics, and now I've just given up.

  • what a shitty ass review but when women were "wallowing" in joy luck club it got 4 stars..

    fuck these mediocre ass hosts

  • Hopefully Tyler perry will get a razzie for this crap movie!

  • Brett: "[Tyler Perry] adds way too much to a series of monologues that, by themselves, were a VERY SUCCESSFUL SHOW."

Pay attention to what you're watching. They don't hate the content of the movie: they hate the way in which it was delivered. Brett and Ellen believed that it would have been more realistic if there had been some light-heartedness mixed in with the drama, and I agree.

Also, please remember, people, that everyone's entitled to their own opinions.

  • what about kimberly elise that last part was the best part and idont think either one of them coulda delivered that part like elise did ! that part was amazing .

  • Resident film experts? Please! Do you two know ANYTHING about cinema?

  • these two reviewers (whom i have never heard of) are full of shit. Perry's direction was not so great but EVERY ACTRESS DELIVERED in this film. primarily Phylisia Rashad and THANDIE Newton who should have recieved Oscar attention but we all know why they didnt.... But I dont expect two white reviewers to grasp the concepts in this movie

  • these twi reviewers (whom i have never heard of0 are full of shit. Perry's direction was not so great but EVERY ACTRESS DELIVERED primarily Phylisia Rashad and THANDIE newton who should have recieved Oscar attention but we all know why they didnt....

  • This movie was terrible. Acting was okay, but a lot over acting drama. Umm dramas are okay, but this wasn't put well together at all( like movies CRASH or The Color Purple was). Way too much happening for me at one time. Could've been a wonderful movie minus Tyler Perry,Janet Jackson, and Thandie Newton, they were just terrible. And the way he tried to fit the poems in the movie was just terrible.Everything was just terrible. But a group hug at the end will make everything better!

  • interesting... two white film critics rating a black film as rotten.

what do either of them know about capturing the experience and struggles of being a black woman in America?

how can they judge something they know nothing about?

  • @LavenderScented YOU'RE the racist here; THEY never talk about race; they only talk about the filmmaking. Films have to have humour, levity, lightness injected somewhere in them to give dimension to the trauma the characters go through, and I agree with them that the subject matter was far too bogged down by itself. Make it about race if you want, but that's a cop-out.

  • @LavenderScented how can you judge critics of color about what they know about this topic??

  • I bet they gave that nc-17 movie about the angry white couple a fresh when its the same 'sad' bullshit

  • Do you guys even know what they are saying? They are saying that the stories were REALLY REALLY good and that the acting was good most of the time. They are saying that it was movie that could have been fantastic... but that the director screwed it up really badly. If someone else had directed it, I'm sure it would have gotten good ratings. There's a fine line between excellence and trying to hard and the director crossed it.

  • DCIGS' review for this movie is FUCKING HILARIOUS xD

  • astounded by this bull shit,,,, u deserved freakin rotten tomatoes urselves...

  • @WithMyNameInLights My English professor is black and went on a rant on Tyler Perry. He really hates him. I've notice a lot of black people hate Tyler, not just white people.

  • @WithMyNameInLights

(note sarcasm) Yeah, its all about white people not understanding black people. It can't have anything to do with Tyler Perry being a shit director who overloads his films with christian references to the point where you want to vomit. (end sarcasm) The original "For Colored Girls" was the best version and Tyler Perry's version messed with wonderful source material (as the RT reviewers clearly SAID). Some people just can't wait to cry racism whenever they can.

  • @WithMyNameInLights

Who knew black people held the monopoly on tragic and inspiring human experiences? Yeah, cos white people never experience any of those.

  • Comment removed

  • @WithMyNameInLights His realness........what a joke.

  • @WithMyNameInLights Love your racism.

  • YOU TWO ARE STUPID AND DUMB AND YOUR WORDS HAVE LESS VALUE THAN A DOLLAR WITH A HOLE IN IT!!!! FOR COLORED GIRLS WAS A WONDERFUL MOVIE!!!! SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!

  • @Ackee23 I guess someones a fanboy who cant respect opinions.

  • @Ackee23 Ever heard of an opinion before?

  • @MultiSnyderman seriously!! since you know what an opinion is, then why do you have a problem with my comment!?! its an opinion as well!!

  • @Ackee23 No, thats not an opinion, more of like being an asshole.

  • I LOVED FOR COLORED GIRLS!!!! Some people are offended by the truth... If there are women in this world whose lives gravitate toward these situations, why not portray it in a movie?

  • well...i agree with them! though i havent seen the movie...i have read the same thing from black women!!! no happiness! just about showing bw in misery. whats new?

what about us "in strength??" i think they are on the money with this. as a black woman who cant stand people putting bw down...they were not putting bw down or anyone down. they were kinda saying truth in what even bw have been saying once they heard perry was making this movie.

all about bw with no agency as opposed to the play.

  • i bet if the movie was called " For White Girls" you'd give it a thumbs up.

damn, even the spanish girl (me) can sense the hate. smh

  • This movie sucked. I'm sick of Tyler Perry and his "I make black films about black people with black people problems." Speaking as a black person, I can say that this movie just did NOT relate to me. That said, Janet, Phylicia, and Macy were phenomenal. And the woman who played Lady in Brown.

  • some ppl dnt get it cuz they not a COLORED GIRL nd dnt understand the shit that we go thru

  • A dad with PTSD grabs two of his kids and throws them out of a window from an apartment building. I hoped I spoiled this movie for everyone.

  • @BilalSaysLive You are correct. I just associated it with him because he was the push behind getting the movie to mainstream audiences. It still wasn't a movie I particularly like and I feel he pushed it because he likes those types of dramas. For Colored Girls on the other end as an actual Perry adaptation of the original play, was one of his better works in my opinion. It wasn't neccessarily the same type of drama as Precious.

  • I LIVE IN A DEAD CULTURE, I SHOULD OF MOVED TO FRANCE TWENTY FORTY YEARS AGO, NO FREEDOM IN THE USA, SOUTHWEST.

  • THANK YOU!!! THIS IS THE BEST REVIEW I HAVE EVER HEARD..god, this movie was trash....it was insulting to the original screen play. Perry is the worst director, his comedies are shit, and this pathetice excuse for a drama is nothing but oscar bait, and i hope non of these women get nominated because its complete bull shit. The acedemy awards is for the best of the best, and this my friend is not the best. an yes I am black, but I have appreciation for for TRUE art.

  • Hilarious review. I liked the movie though. I actually expected it to be awful but it wasn't . It couldn't have been an easy task taking Shange's monologues and making it into a movie so I commend Tyler for that. The performances were very good - especially Loretta Divine's. I am still questioning Whoopi's comical approach to the mother character. I do think that a Black woman screenwriter /director would have taken a more successful approach to it. Men aren't very good at telling our stories.

  • first of all they both arent a colored girl not even colored for that matter so they wouldnt know what they go through there family is the ones that hurt us so they should shut up get a life and give a all white peopl movie a rotten tamato this movie is powerful so get a life

  • i'm so tired of movies that make black women look so pitiful. like we are so weak and sorry, can we ever look happy? like ever??? wtf! precious and now this shit. can somone stop showing the non black world this negative side of black women?? we are strong, this potrayal is not what we are and if that is so. why does the WHOLE world have to see? you would never see a movie about a bunch of whining white women. and if you want to show the world about black women. no one cares, we are black women

  • Tyler Perry Movies ( plot - DRAMA! DRAMA! DRAMA! DRAMA) DRAMA ALWAYS MAKE A GOOD STORY. TYLER PERRY IS APPARENTLY RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN SOAP OPERA DRAMA MOVIE INTO ANOTHER. I WILL WAIT FOR A BOOTLEG COPY. NO OFFENSE, IF YOU CAN PREDICT THE OUTCOME IN 20 MIN, THEN IT AINT A MOVIE FOR THE INTELLIGENT PEOPLE LMAO!!!!

  • I deeply liked this movie...there is one particular experience that hit home for me....critics are free to express their opinions but for those that know what this movie is all about then we can truly appreciate the talent of tyler perry......Everyone has a right to their opinion so if they didnt like this movie then thats just their opinion, we cant kill them for that.

  • Are you serious? You MUST be joking! This movie was amazing! I saw the play first and then the movie and It helped me understand so much! The acting was phenominal this is One rotten tomatoes show that i really don't agree with!

  • I have just read a French review of the film and "For colored girls" obtained 3 stars of 5. They pointed out the difficulty of adapting a play to the cinema and the great acting in the movie. It is also interesting to have opinions from foreigners. ;)

  • I definately have mixed opinions about this movie. From one view I liked it, I believe and i loved how he incoroprated the poems into the plot. However, from another view some of the acting was too dramatic and seemed so rehersed that it made it seem unreal. To me a movie of that substance is suppose to capture you in a way that makes you forget your watching a movie, and for most of the actrecesses they overdid it for me and I couldnt take thier sistuation seriously or as reality.

  • no discussion of sexuality, racism sexism

    demonized black men

quality poetry not contextualized ie poetry was not profound as the film

msg = feel sorry for black women walowing dont understand just feel sry

precious times 7 plus uncontexualized poetry

  • this review is a great example of the white/black disconnect that still remains in America. I must say this commentary made me quite uncomfortable because I do not particularly feel that you are at all qualified to speak on what is, the documentation of the Black Woman;s hidden experience. SOOOOO Many of us have been thru that shyt. But I can see how it may seem a little foreign to you.

  • @BreSuraiye I agree with your commentary. While there was disconnect b/t the poetry and film drama at pts, it is hard to make a theatrical performance like "For Coloured Girls" into a film. The comments expressed by the reviewers are insensitive and magnify the divide that persists b/t black women in white america. I got really uncomfortable at 1:30 when the reviewers starts mocking the actresses and the themes of the film - themes that were originally in the highly acclaimed play. SMH

  • Not every movie is gonna be happy dovey, and happy smilies( it that did happen, that I would of die of boredom. just imagine Jason dying on the first movie of friday the 13th..o_O LAME)....the movie was really good, from my 15's point of mind, and it's really deep and REAL. All the stuff that happened in that movie, is happeinging right now somewhere in this world. and maybe Mr Perry just wanted everyone to know that

  • Why does Tyler hate black men so much?Every black man in this movie was evil except for the one who worked for the state(the cop). Stop with this propaganda Tyler.

  • The story probably made you uncomfortable, that's why it bothered you so much. Well, sorry to break it to you but not every movie is going to make you laugh and feel good when you walk out the theatre. Some movies are just meant to teach, to make you think, keep you astonished, and question the world. Ugh I am so annoyed by these two, and I'm not even African-American, well I'm about 10% black but I identify more with White cause of my physical features. But this story is brilliant and beautiful

  • why even mention the works of Maya Angelou that are dependent of this work. Maya Angelou has nothing to do with this story. If you understood the plight of woman that go through these issues everyday then you would understand how relevant and necessary this story needed to be told, cause so many women in this generation do not understand issues like this-and it should bring us women closer together. You guys are ignorant and should have just watched something that didn't have any substance.

  • Ok Ellen and Brett, you guys obviously didn't do your research and you really have no idea about the story behind this movie..Have they even seen the original play? Read the storybook? if they had they wouldn't be so ignorant to say the "wallow" there's no "Happy" in this film because the original story isn't "HAPPY" .."recite spoken word new age maya angelou vagina abortion stories"?? Really? Did she really just say that? what does she know about the words of Maya Angelou why eve

  • @relatv216 the original story isnt necessarily happy but it is fulfilling

  • And as a black woman, I can honestly say I do not care for this movie. At all. Maybe it was too real for me or maybe it was the dad throwing his damn kids out of the window. I don't know, but I do know I didn't like it.

  • @msbrandt06 I agree, the movie is a mixed bag

  • @msbrandt06 there was a bm last week who threw his infant out the window, 25 feet down and then proceeded to go out, pick it up, slam it to the ground and throw it into the trash...yes the story is as real as that portrayal in the movie, you speak of.

  • SuperBlackThang, so what the movie is being reviewed by 2 white people? I could see if you had an issue with a man reviewing it, but the problems addressed in this movie isn't a black woman problem it's simple A WOMAN PROBLEM. Women of all races deal with these issues: abortion, domestic violence, promiscuity, drug abuse and everything else. I personally didn't see much that focused solely on black women, so what's the problem?

  • im willing 2 bet the only reason they gave this movie a bad review is because it had a all black cast, im willing 2 bet if i go see this movie i will love it. you can't give every black movie a good review but when you rush through a review job like they did and spew out real quick how much you hated it i become suspicious and wonder what your ulterior motive is, with all the black bashing the media is giving black politicians these days then it aint no surprise black movies are next

  • @ superblackthang thanxx just tryna tell what it really is.

  • How on EARTH can two white kids, critique a movie about black woman? Baby, this is such a waste of time. They DON'T have a clue about any kind of STRUGGLE. These are the most protected kids on the planet (white kids) OkAy... Give me a F**K**G BREAK!

  • . Every race haves a group of people thats looking to better themselves, but then every race haves screw up's so to just point the finger at one race ain't right.... just leave the shit alone Tyler Perry did his thing and the movie is out n he's making money soooo now what it doesn't matter what people think. I'm just fed up with the racist shit everybody haves flaws and everybody went threw struggles to get us where we are today!!!!!!!

  • @killadelphia84 you said the thing, OKAY! This whole topic needs to be shut down after you made this comment. That's what's up, baby!

I mean the thing should be over, NOW!

  • Yeah I'm BLACK n im not pefect either but at the same time muthafuckers create a image for the next race to throw in their face. In btw dnt know who said it but 5 dollars a hour does not exist anymore unless your a waitress.

  • @kaitala I the racist shit is old and played out but that doesn't mean it still dnt exist I done seen it all on the thread and quite frankly everybody that said some racist shit is a piece of trash weather white, black, hispanic, asian, or whatever ethnicity.

  • i completely agree.

there's nothing worse then a movie that is suppised to evoke sympathy, but instead leaves the audience with the: ah **** did i really just pay to watch this crap?- feeling.

makes people who might have serious problems look like whiney self absorbed drama queens.

    epic fail.

  • THIS REVIEW IS TOTAL BULLSHIT!

  • I hate the comment made in relation to "Precious". How about you open your eyes and take note of the CONNECTION in terms of the struggle of the Black Woman within BOTH of these movies and work for change in respects to what you see. There is a reason for those "crocodile tears" that these people are complaining about! AND THATS THE PURPOSE OF THE MOVIE! Ugh, I already feel like people have totally missed the point. Hope the movie satisfies though. If not, read and/or watch the play!!!

  • With that being said, the beauty of the story is the determination to SURVIVE. The Black Woman struggles, hurts, is beaten, degraded and damn near stripped to nothing but bone...yet she SURVIVES. Enlighten yourselves. Things are better but far from where they should be and the struggle lives on. Okay, some of the women made stupid decisions as some people noted. WHY did they do this? And what effect does their gender and race play on their experiences and choices? THOSE are the questions to ask!

  • I have not seen this movie yet and I am quite nervous. I really hope Tyler Perry delivers because this play was indeed phenomenal. One thing I already disagree with is how many people are complaining about how sad and depressing the movie is...as if the play wasn't??? That's the point exactly! The struggle of the Black Woman in America is NOT a happy happy joy joy scene, like the stories of most white women. Exceptions exist sure, but all in all, it is a VERY hard one. Being both BLACK and WOMAN

  • Its just their personal opinion which doesn't rate for much on my scale. Reviewers are just people that are unable to make it in whatever field they are criticizing. I've never seen either of these two in a film, let alone direct one.

  • i so agree with them, this movie was some painful trash!

  • Saw this movie today and man I felt it was a amazing waste, don't get me wrong the performances are Oscar worthy( except for Whoopi Goldberg , Anika Rose in the second half , & Kerri Washington), but I was tearful and depressed for an hour. I could feel the pain of some of these women and I cried for some but others where just making dumb decisions. Phylisha's the woman because she threw in her all, but it fell flat. Say U will lynch me, I'm black but I won't care it's MO & I'm sticking to it

  • "FOR COLORED GIRLS" Movie Review by Dj Smooth : ) A+ 4 Stars : )

  • These 2 are dead on about this so called "movie". Another cliche, melodramatic, pathetic attempt at movie making. This man makes a ton of money of stereotyping black folks but his target audience is too ignorant to see that. Spike Lee said it best about tyler perry's work, “coonery and buffoonery.” This man is an abomination to cinema and should be banned from ever working on any kind of media format.

  • @scar50 i do agree TP's skills are lacking but this story is not one of his...if your vision was clouded u could see it was very different from any of his other works b/c it is a play of poems that tell a story...and i thought he did a great job at presenting the poetry on screen go see the play or read the book

  • @cutiefbaby I heard about the play which looks gay anyway...he just made it worse than what it already was. 20/20 vision over here.....

  • Jesus Christ, they're not racist, get over yourselves they just didn't like the movie

  • Was anyone offended by the line "and recite spoken word new age Maya Angelou vagina abortion stories"?

Are they just saying they liked the play just to avoid criticism? If anyone has seen the play, please explain.

  • WOW BAD REVIEW THIS MOVIE WAS AMAZING! I'm not being racist at all but the reviews will always be different depending upon race only because white people know their culture and black people know theres just like with any race. To say there wasnt enough happy in the movie is a bad judegment because that's what their lives were and to water it down and not make it seem as so would only be making this movie like every other movie and stereotype "the good guy always wins" this movie shows the real

  • I was amused by there comments it is there opinions, which everyone is entitled to. The monologue's in some places seemed out of place, but I did get the gist of the idea perry was going for. I didn't think it applied totally to black women, cause I can see it applying to a woman. I didn't find it completely depressing as it was actually more realistic as of the women of different levels of society. What I got from it is, you shouldn't turn a blind eye to the obvious hurt/violence before you.

  • Everything they were complaining about, was how the movie is supposed to be. This seems kind of inappropriate for two white people.

  • Everything they were complaining about, was how the movie is supposed to be. This seems kind of inappropriate for two white people.

  • the more i listen to this review, the more disgusted i am.

  • you guys are wrong on so many levels. this is like borderline hate speech. this film is the way it is because this is the way it is ...we're talking about suicide here, how much happy do you want? and FYI there was the right dosage of happy before the bottom dropped out for some of these women. rotten tomatos, you guys are rotten. lol

stop being critics and appreciate the art of this movie for what it is.

take this review down, its an embarrasment to journalism.

  • Comment removed

  • @lbclerk The difference is being a RESPECTFUL human being...smh

  • Comment removed

  • I have seen the movie, and I disagreed with this review. Life is hard, and this is true for some more than others. As a human being it is natural to at some point in time feel self pity. I think that had Tyler Perry not allowed for the characters to participate in a "Collective Wallow", we would have lost one of the aspects that made the characters real. On another note, to call Kimberly Elise's performance a high school audition piece, does a great disservice to a tremendous actress.

  • @jmkeme I would like to no, since u saw it... is it as good as precious? and was the storyline intertwine the characters or did it just show separate stories that never intersected? I would like to no, cuz maybe I gonna see it in the future.

  • @eckosama I have not seen Precious, so I can not speak as to whether For Colored Girls is as good. The story starts with the characters portrayed separately, and gradually connects them as the movie goes along. I enjoyed the movie, and would recommend that you see it.

  • I am a black woman who agrees that TP can be over the top and sometimes tries too hard to draw on human emotion with ridiculous "wallowing" drama in his movies (i.e. Why Did I Get Married Too & Precious). But this movie was REAL, and the performances were GREAT by all actresses. You don't need "happy" in a movie for it to be good. There's a plethora of gut wrenching movies that plenty love and call "good". GIVE ME A BREAK. These two white kids don't know what they are talking about.

  • @vverner I truly agree.

  • @vverner You're right. These crackers don't know what they're talking about. White people talk shit all the time. They jus' hatin' 'cuz they ain't got no mothafuckin' talent like our people do, and they never will, no matter what.

  • @vverner TP had nothing really to do with Precious. He only promoted it and took on the title of producer but the movie had already been made and showing at the film festivals by the time TP got to it. That movie stunk on it's own accord. TP had nothing to do what that.

  • @vverner Race has nothing to do with it...these two white kids do know what there talking about, because unlike u and mr perry they have cinematic degrees. And all the performances were not good. Gosh, black people are so easily impressed.

  • @beyonceLVR1 First, you don't know what degree I have so I wouldn't jump to conclusions as if you know me, YOU DON'T. Second, Black people are some of the toughest and smartest critics, especially the educated ones like myself. It is my opinion that the performances were good and I disagree with this review because I have a right to, just as you have a right to your opinion. I just feel that you missed out on something good. I agree The original is PHENOMINAL. I will leave it at that.

  • @beyonceLVR1 black people are so easily impressed? it has been black people who have shot down this movie from the jump! well actually moreso educated black women.

cause many have seen the play and knew, like always, tyler perry was going to make bw out to be miserable as opposed to the play where the women had agency and self fulfillment.

your IDEA of how all black people are ,are just as bad as the words you think describe us. we are not monolithic.

ps learn where you come from.

  • This review is ridiculous. I understand why people thinks of it as racist. I take it as a lack of understanding tho. Yes, likeW0Ah, they did say the original monologues were great, but NO ONE can deny the poetry and they beauty of it. I feel the reason they don't like Perry's adaptation of it is because he put faces in and scenarios in front of us to make the poetry visual and THAT they couldn't handle.

  • TP went too far with this movie. I get so sick and tired of him portraying all Black females as being weak, desperate, lowdown, can't keep a man, horrible mothers and then the only GOOD ones are CHRISTIAN. Then he does the same thing with Black men and he's just insulting damn near the whole Negro race. T_T" Don't get me wrong, his ideas are beastie and Madea is a good touch but his movies, plays and tv show are making people view Blacks even more poorly. I'm black and I'm insulted.

  • The film is alright. I have to agreed with the critics from RTS. Tyler Perry did fall short in some areas in the movie. The dialogue was choppy. He tried to incorporate the original monologue into the film, but it did not flow very well. Then again, Perry was able to bring some visual aspects to the movie. This is a movie for people who has not read or seen the play.

  • im black, and i agree wih every word these two said, i just came from seeing the movie and this movie was not good at all. i did not like it...

  • I wonder how many people watched this review before making a stupid comment about them bashing it because it has black people in it. Seriously watch it and then type something don't go by your own prejudice. And it's fine to disagree with them but don't make something up when it's not there.

  • Well, I could have considered this review but when that Brett said Janet and Phylicia were good but the rest of the performances feels like high school audition pieces, knowing the backgrounds of these actresses, he has totally lost my vote. I haven't seen the film yet but I can already say that this review is crap!

  • White or black racist...either way, you're both disgusting. Why is racism the boiling point of ALL arguments between people of different colors? Do you know how immature you sound? As far as i'm concerned, as long as i see public bathrooms with a female silhouette sign or a males and not "coloreds" and "whites", racism doesn't EXIST! You know why? Because America has decided we have more important things to worry about than color. It means, you're outnumbered and your opinion is irrelevant.

  • @KeidraMiche I am sorry but you are wrong. Racism is still very much alive and well. I wish it wasnt, but it is. Just look at how racist the comments get on aol.com or foxnews.com whenever the president is mentioned. You are right that it is disgusting and it always comes down to race. Blacks and whites should be ashamed, look at this comment thread. There are very ignorant remarks coming out of both sides.

  • @kaitala007 Yeah, racist "comments" will ALWAYS exist...that's just ignorant people not wanting to control their mouths...but true "racism": the enforced separation and degrading doesn't exactly still exist...maybe in some places that i've never been but overall, it's really not true racism. In my opinion, on the news it's more black on black crime, or white on white crime...it's not too often you see the KKK burning down black towns, lynching and tar and feathering coloreds. That's pure racism

  • I for one, LOVED the movie. He has worked so hard and came from so little to make something of himself. People are criticizing his work...okay, EVERY work of art will be criticized...but there is a such thing as just being hateful and ONLY wanting to see the bad in something and letting the BAD outweigh what is really good in the piece. At least he did something with his life while all of you sit on Youtube talking about what he should have done...what have YOU done? Give the man his props.

  • Omg...usually I don't comment unless I have something good to type, but I just seen this movie, honestly, I do not even know how they made this movie over two hours long. The movie title did not fit what actually went on in the film and it's sad but the movie was bad.

  • @MenaBfly yeah i saw it today, and i was like ugh........

  • I get the apprehension about Tyler Perry's directing in light of the melodrama that marks all his movies. But how could they bash the content? It's obvious these fools didn't read the play

  • @naturalsis Did you not watch the review? They state multiple times that the plays were great. And that Perry's adaptation of them was horrible.

  • @tsunamijin I did watch the review, maybe you weren't paying attention. They go on on about how depressing and sad the movie is when the content IS sad and depressing. Not every character will be redeemed and have a happy ending. The play was addressing real life and real issues. I'm black and I don't think Tyler is a great director either and would have rather seen it directed by Antoine Fuqua or Spike Lee.

  • @naturalsis They commented on how the plays were good and that the film was not really good. So, yeah I watched it and sure the source material is sad, but still don't confuse a negative on one for the other. It would be like hating christianity for Mel Gibson's the Passion of the Christ. In essence, I mean one can dislike on adaptation of something while liking there other and still not be hypocritical.

And I agree Lee would've probably been way better for this than Perry.

  • this is some bull shit for real

  • I AM WHITE! I am sick and tired of deadbeats still talking racism...most of my COLORED FRIENDS RIGHT HERE IN GEORGIA have better paying jobs than I do, live in better homes than I do, and drive nicer cars than I do. Should I call them racist because I can't get what they have? White women go through some of the same damn things, get over it and move on...White Georgia Peaches put up with shit too! I look forward to the movie, Tyler Perry Rocks!

  • @lbclerk Hun its either Black or African American. Just because the title is using connotations from the past doesn't give you the right to. Thats like me saying I have descendants of British rejects that came to America as friends here in....

  • @Robyn2011 LOL...what difference does it all make?

  • @lbclerk No one is calling the reviewers racist. I just feel that as white people they dont get what Tyler was trying to do. The movie is dark and depressing because the play is dark and depressing, hence the title "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Was Enuf". David has a point though, whites usually arent interested in black movies unless they are showing blacks in stereotypical ways (friday, the blind side, etc.) Go ahead, say I'm throwing the race card....

  • @kaitala007 Women, in general, go through hell (.) White Women become categorize when it comes to domestic abuse and depressing issues as trailer trash...take a look around at some of the movies...You should read this book about a white woman's struggle just to survive everything growing up in the south "Southern Endings" by Lisa Elizabeth Rose...bet you won't see that one on a movie! I apologize if I offended you or anyone else.

  • @lbclerk You are absolutely right about all women going through hell. So there is no need to apologize there. This is why the actresses involved have said that all women should see the movie. In fact, I am going with a white friend to watch it next week. However, there have been plenty of movies about white women going through hell such as Bastard Out of Carolina, which is based on a true story. Look it up.

  • @kaitala007 thanks

  • @lbclerk Don't nobody care about you, whitey! You mean nothing. You are just a pale, dead version; a mere 4,000 year old looking version of our black beauty.

  • @reb5stun Really? This is not the way to prove your point. What if ibclerk called you blackie or worse. Seriously, we do not have to stoop to the name calling level. Just beat them with facts.

  • @kaitala007 You just stooped to name calling by giving me examples of what ibclerk might call me. I don't have to see any white person's point of view. They don't one, so you can't tell me anything.

  • @reb5stun Ok, let me try again. 1. I was not stooping to anyones level. I just wanted you to see that you could win more arguments by being the bigger the person. I said blackie to illustrate how degrading and hurtful some words can be. 2. I am not telling you to do or see anything. Again, I was just trying to help you deal with others in a more mature way. I see that advice was taken. 3. I actually agreed with you; I just said my view in a different way. You have a great day.

  • @lbclerk You people should be ones to commit suicide after a second of considering it. White people don't do nothin' but destroy OUR world.

  • @reb5stun grow up idiot

  • As someone who's yet to see the film, I take this review with a grain of salt (like I do all reviews). But, I first must ask, did these reviewers actually read Ntozake Shange's play/poem, see it on stage...or did they spark note it. I mean, who knows, my feelings of the film might be the same AFTER I see it...but I just feel the reviewers are talking about a piece they know nothing about, and are kinda judging ass backwards. I could be very wrong tho.

  • WHITE PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER REVIEW BLACK MOVIES...THESE TWO IDIOTS GAVE A BAD REVIEW TO A VERY GOOD MOVIE. THEY SHOULD STICK TO MOVIES ABOUT WHITE FOLKS KISSING. I BET THEY THOUGHT SEX IN THE CITY WAS A GOOD MOVIE.----THE GIRL HERE LOOKS LIKE A TRANSVESTITE AND THE GUY COULD HAVE WORN SOMETHING OTHER THAN A BOWLING SHIRT.

  • @chillchi Racist!

  • @chillchi Because white people gave a review on a urban film, a black person will do better? give me a break. I for one am a black man and yes the movie had some uplifting scenes in it and the acting was phenomenal from some of the cast but I honestly felt this movie was a bad film and that is my opinion. These are critics get paid for this so they will nit pick. Its called an opinion.

  • Well the movie was for colored girls soooo...

  • He says it a "Collective Wallow" and the girl says its "mockish". Let me just say that not every movie is made to be "HAPPY" through and through. I can tell you from first hand experience as a Youth Corrections Worker I have seen many young girls who have gone thru these exact experiences in their lives that these women are portraying in the film. The deep words of pain and sorrow in the monolouges of the play? I have felt the pain thru the girls I work with. So to hell w/these people.

  • Evident that they've never seen the play!

  • Evident that they've never seen yhe play!

  • the reason why these to valey girls couldnt get it is because they couldnt relate.....when was the last time they both had a black experience ..........chile
