Man, they should really do a re-release on this one. Tweak how draw and enemy scaling worked and this game would be one of the best FFs. How to fix draw? Well, just make it so each enemy could only be drawn from once and when you draw from stronger enemies the spell would get more powerful (and the junction to the GF would too).
I really like the fact that your express your opinion in the game, remain open and ect. Everyone have they taste and opinion and at least you are not like those...
OMG GAWD ISH NOT WRITTEN COD OR FF7 SO IT MUST SUCK AN ALL THE OTHER WHO DISAGREE WITH ME ARE TROLL BECAUSE TEY PLAY OTHER THING THEN OVER RATED GAME!
On my side i did enjoy the game, and thanks for the music upload
I don't hate the game, just the Junction System. Call me lazy or something, but I grow tired of drawing all the damn time. Still Epic music from Uematsu!!
nobuo get's it right again :) however... as for the rest of the game well... like ff 13 it just doesn't work for me sorry people but it's a negative opinion on ff 8 GET OVER IT!!!
I was just thinking the same thing. I love the three songs, but if I had to pick, I would replace Don't Be Afraid with this one. Then again, the pure overall awesomeness would've caused too many deaths by awesome.
And of course, unless you junction Ultima to speed and put on speed boosts, he's going to be way faster than you. Light pillar, Your turn, Nope nevermind he sent another Light Pillar, Use Revive, Light Pillar, and would you guess it? Another Light Pillar. But.. Of course that's the only time I truly had fun in the game, I LOVE hard fights. Hehe.. I love FF IV, but my favorite will always be VII. I love the extra dungeon they throw in there on the moon when you beat the game in FF IV though. Bye!
Well, I like FF VIII, but it's completely unbalanced... I went through the ENTIRE game without a single problem, all you have to do is have a little patience with that ANNOYING draw system, and junction smartly. The only way ANY of my characters would die is if they used a death spell on me. It's beyond extremely easy... UNTIL you decide to finally get to Ultimate Weapon. Then the game suddenly shouts FUCK YOU! Sending 4 Light Pillars in a row, which does 9999 damage no matter what.
the first time i heard this was fighting the metal spider i believe i put up one hell of a fight but it was to strong for my party level and i had to run
I actually loved this ff's gameplay the best because it was the first ff to really have a fighting style like advent children. Squall would just own all of the mosters with his limit breaks. I have beat it 60 times in total and im not joking. thats how addictive i think it is.
Loved this game was the first ff I got, to be fair as you said after comparing it with the gameplay of some of the other ff games the combat itself was pretty weak, I particularly disliked the leveling system, but on the other hand I did like the fact you could junction stat effects to your attacks, (Try using death or drain, they both work quite well, provided your oponent isnt a zombie).
Fuwaaaaa!! Thank you thank you thank you! I have always thought this game was the best in the series, especially musically. Lovely choice and great song. I was kind of worried because i didn't see it earlier on the list.
FF8 had better graphics whereas FF7 had better gameplay. The music was about equal in both games. Some of the characters were good in FF8 like Irvine and Rinoa, whereas some were dumb like Quistis. Overall the game was decent.
But thats another thing I dont care for in this game. There's no true variety in the characters because once you get enough Junction abilities, you can make them however you want. I generally dont care for blank-slate characters.
It's was the personality that made me like him so much in the first place :P
I gotta admit it is true he wasnt as easy to use as squall, but he hit harder, its a shame they didnt make his limit break better while you could play him though, I mean it was pathetic :(
Uhm. Well, I know you're a troll, seen as III didn't have any characterisation... While V is a better game, I understand if you think the music is better. I disagree, but fans will never agree one which game have the best music aha ;)
strangly, despite V having more characterization, a more involved story, and a more refined battle system, I prefer III (ds and nes). And normally I prefer the games with the better story. Though part of it might be because I think FFV's story was one of the dullest. Music is another part.
FFVIII Was a test for orchestrated ideas that would happen later. It became popular in 7 with the infamous ONE Winged Angel. This entire soundtrack rocks. Even its take on the Prelude. I also liked how many different battle songs and boss songs between the two parties. Love Laguna's battle music! lol. Course i also liked Seymour's in ten.
9 was done that way purposely in order to look back on the series. If the only FFyou're experienced to is 7 and 8, odds are 9 will suck to you, but if you play the whole series, it really sticks out as one of the best. It's graphical style is different, but completely designed by Amano, which is amazing. Also, I find Zidane the best male lead in any FF to date, with the best female lead being Ashe, from Final Fantasy XII, shortly followed by Rinoa, from Final Fantasy VIII.
Of course, my first FEs were 7 and 8 too, and I loved 9. I credit Vivi for sparking my love of Black Mage type characters, and was pretty surprised when I saw pictures of FF1 in a magazine article and saw a Black Mage.
Still my favorite in the series.
As for 8, Im replaying it now. It's not terrible, but battles are inflated due to me drawing alot. I have more Mod skills so its not as bad now, but It's just a shame that a setup that was supposed to prevent grinding just made me grind more.
everything else about it was great, I wish they would have implemented gameplay styles from either side in the series. (VII, IX, ect...) but the magic/stat improvement system was.....sad? lame?
Amendment to that. FF7 itself isn't overrated. It's a great game. What makes it SEEM overrated are the fanboys who suck FFVII dry and hate on every other FF. Just my 2 cents, although I agree 8 was better. 12 remains my favorite, now with 13, 8, and 9 in the follow-up, and 7, 10, and the rest of the earlier coming in after that.

@ freestyla1234 FFVIII is really a love or hate game. It's one of your favorites in the series or one of your least favorites. That's just the way the game works. I wish I could have gotten into it, because I loved its music so much. I did beat the game one week when I had strep throat and couldn't go anywhere, and I'll admit it was fun, but many things about the game just annoyed me.
I personally loved this game, I played it back when I was a kid and it seems like we can't just enjoy games anymore, we always have to criticize them : (
Sticking up for ff8, this was one of me favorites of the series :P But then i was lucky with not experiencing many of the issues ppl have with this game and was free to just enjoy the experience as a whole(example:im not a big magic user, so not using magic in favor of gf skills wasnt a prob for me).
