Forgiven, probably not, because that would seem to imply that the Holy Spirit has to use created things to save people, and that just isn't reasonable. ;-)
@Revfiskj Sorry, I thought I had made that statement so boldly wrong that everyone would understand that my tongue was firmly embedded in my cheek. Yes, most certainly the Holy Spirit uses words, and He uses water, and bread and wine, just as God used the embryo in Mary's womb to be Immanuel, God with us. I do not think to limit what the Holy Spirit promises to do because of my limited imagination about what He ought to do. Praise God that He saves us through visible, audible and tangible means.
Demons attend synagogue? Maybe then the old saying is true, wherever God builds a church, the devil builds a chapel. "What have you to do with Jesus?"
@Luther9621 Demons have been attending synagogue here for years, and after the sermon I preached on that text several of them got really upset. I'll be cleaning up the mess for months.
It seems from verse 23 that this guy did not come off the street, but "there was in the synagogue a man in an unclean spirit." I'm thinking he was already part of the gathering.
You almost have to wonder if Mark is picking up on a sense urgency Jesus may have felt since Jesus knew quite well he only had so much time to do what was needed to be done.
@ 8:28: "Ni" in place of "yo" would be great. I assume you know about Monty Python's Knights who Say Ni! If not see The Knights who say Ni! on youtube (It's a cool site, but won't let you type URLs in response boxes).
Fisk, my wife wants to knwo how Fides is doing and why you always wear a long sleeve shirt on top of a short sleeve one.

@tlstout65 "has to" is very different from "decides to." Does he not use Words?

About 11:00 (and then 12:30)- It's almost like Jesus's words have power... I wonder if that's true in baptism and communion?
