@phillydog17 You got some good tunage up on your channel, philly. I can admit that. Still, Iggy does something unlike what you got there (not that you've covered all of your tastes in that selection, though!) and he does it well.
He took being a frontman to new heights that few afterwards will be able to equal. He's a generous performer who really engages his audience and makes you part of a hell of a show. The tunes...well, they speak for themselves. Audio carnage for the sick at heart.
The first time I ever heard it. It was on the sound track to THE MOVIE,,> REPO MAN !! So it is as old as that or like you say Older. IgGy does a song also on that.....peace.
fucking hate people who post comments trying to act like a music critic when they're probably just some no good kid who reads too many internet forums and reviews then says shit like 'I pretty much liked Iggy, and this version reveals some really sad truth about him'. Its just like honestly, do you always feel the need to come on youtube and act like a big man and state all these things. your never going to be liked more from doing it so why even bother.
If you hear this in context (elsewhere on youtube, I forget where), two of his guitar strings have broken and there's a complete absence of replacement strings, so he thinks of songs he can play with 4 strings that aren't necessarily in his usual repertoire, including this. The last verse is just spontaneous silliness. Ain't nothin' wrong with silliness.
what the hell is that bit of lyrics he added??! It's fucking pointless crap in comparison to anything Richman wrote. I pretty much liked Iggy and this version reveals some really sad truth about him, i'm afraid, thank you much

This is a travesty. He just doesn't have the same finesse as Jonathan. Also he totally fucked the lyrics.

Bowie and Iggy co-write songs and do covers of the same song . Bowies is better.

Except that Jonathan Richman wrote this song about five years before Springsteen released Nebraska.
msstressa 2 years ago 3
i'm not talkin about richman's version. i'm talkin about iggy's version. it's much more minimal and, as i said, in the same vein of "state trooper".
Hamptonio 2 years ago
...earlier than that, just for the record...this song dates back to at least 71...

The only reason this cover makes me uncomfortable is because Iggy seems waaaaay too normal during the whole ordeal. That's why it's no magic.

I don't think this sucks...except for the last verse.
I just love the sound of those broken strings ringing!

Don't think this was recorded in 1989, more like 1998..
shake544 3 years ago
I agree. Iggy in '89 had way shorter hair. Saw him in concert that year. No way he would play acoustic at that time.
