I like how most of the features, woodwind and brass, are played while moving. Having the ability to play such high level music on the move is amazing. Unlike recent years, when we have to stop to play a feature in a block formation or something similar.
I love bands like shows like this, Because they aren't loaded with choreography and other crap just to win general effect, they're just marching and playing amazing music they don't need different choreography and props to win
so mr. watkins was giving us the procedure of what to do if you fall during a show and as an example he brought up this show and said that 5 or 6 clarinet players fall near the end, is this true?
first of all just because you go to a cobb county school doesnt mean you know all about every band program and you certainly dont know ANYTING about the people in the band if anything you could take their being "snobs" as being glad to in a two time national champion band in the first place.they have an excellent marching band and musical program they have come first in almost every competition theyve participated in 1 in the BOA regionals in 2010 nd another at a compettition at CHS. out of room
I go to a cobb county school. and in my opinion lassiter is not that great. musicly they are one of the best in the nation. but today, as a marchingband they are a bunch of stuck up snobbs. they think they are to good to compeat with any other cobb county schools. and honestly i belive we could place higher than them in a BOA setting. and also there are so many of them, they cant have cool drill.
But now that im done ranting. this was a great preformance, No doubt.
@Firaje Actually, GA does have bad marching bands. That's one reason LHS sticks out so much, because it's pretty much the only excellent one in the state.
@prettyinpink622 I will admit there are bad marching bands in Georgia (not like there aren't in every state), but if you think Lassiter is the ONLY excellent one, you're either stupid or cocky. There are several bands in georgia that place nationally, unlike a lot of other states. Take Harrison, Kell, or Kennesaw Mountain for example.
i play in the roswell marching band, and i must say yall kick the shit out of us, even though youre more of a competion band and were more of a "lets get the crowd going on friday nights" type of band. also you guys are HUGE, easily four times the size of our band
Musically, the brass section was actually not that great this year! I feel eminently qualified to comment, being personally responsible for much of the lack of intonation and crassness that occasionally can be heard from the trumpet section.
But we could march that year, and our directors and arrangers didn't miss a beat - they put together a perfect show. Any band could've had a top 10 finish with that show.
this year we are competing in Philadelphia. Or at least we hope to be. much time was lost to the flooding we endured. I am sure it will be okay though.
aahh. im so happy :) I actually go to this school. and im currently in the band. we work soo hard, but its soo funny how a school from little ol marietta,ga can be so amazing. aah its soo cool
Their freakin school is big and amazing. They have a dipping dots and starbucks machine. Their scoreboard is freakin huge too. We went to their competition well u can say last year.
At state we were the smallest band. In fact, at most of our competitions we were the smallest band. But we still did well. 7th in the Texas state championships isn't too shabby. It's not about size, It's about quality. For Lassiter to have 200 plus on the field and keep it this clean, then the band must be really good. To have a small band, plus be clean visually and make it up there with the big bands, then you also have a really good band. With each band size comes a different responsibility.
Just to clarify things, in 1998 Lassiter Won BOA Grand Nationals with a score of 97.55 the highest score in Boa History. Last year LD Bell Won Grand Nationals with a score of 96.10, and this year Avon won Grand Nationals with a score of 97.75 Avon has the highest score ever in BOA history as well as a perfect score in Visual Ensemble, when it comes to Visual NOBODY beats Avon.
Avon is superb, don't get me wrong, but this beats Avon's show by a mile. And it beats everyone else by several miles lol. I actually thought Avon had a better show in 2007 personally.
I was actually in Avon's marching band. I don't think there is any way to judge who was better when there is 10 years difference. Both shows deffinitly had its strong points. Also scores are also based on things we can't see or hear. Thats what the on field judges are for. Personally I think our band did deserve to win Grand Nats, but we were overrated in my opinion. But again, we arent judges, so I can't say anything. Personally, this is my favorite show ive ever seen though.
Nice going , Bromster :)
