  • It's upsetting that such a terrible interviewer is given such incredible opportunities.

  • He is so cute.

  • Clear that the interviewer got no inspiration or grasp on the film whatsoever if she's asking these INANE questions... I would do ANYTHING for a 4 minute and 15 second conversation with Hoffman about SNY...

  • it sucks cause I would've really liked to hear some more deeper views on this film, which he definitely tried to get through thankfully from a person asking what was it like playing a theater director....

  • dumb questions is what american familes like to hear the answer too.

  • Is it just me or does he have a big brain ? I mean literally, I dont know if he's supergenius or something but his brain/forehead is on the same line as his nose.

  • Charlie Kaufman would probably approve of this, because the interview asks questions that she's interested in, ie she's breaking the mold...

  • god i want to just sit down and talk to this guy for hours.... this interviewer is a fucking idiot.

  • I didn't know George Lucas was in this movie.

  • What do you expect? It's a press tour interview; they have like 3 minutes each while they're shuffled in and out in front of the various actors, who are there for hours on end answering the same damned questions over and over. It's like speed dating, only less interesting. And they probably haven't watched the movie.

  • She actually says, to preface the second question, "the other aspect of this character is he is a theatre director." The other aspect? this character is so much more deep than that I don't even know if Kaufman knows everything about him, this is the 2nd worst interview I have ever seen.

  • he always sounds drunk

  • Youtube really fucking hates interviewers.

  • @rkullberg Haha that's so true...

  • i actually don t like him so much as an actor, but in person, like, this interview is better. being the questions awful and his way of answering, i find him wayy more interesting as a person

  • Hoffman is definitely one of the very few people involved in film that i would love to meet and just pick his brain about how he's so brilliant with his craft.

  • @cb9603 The brilliant person is Charlie Kaufman, not Philip Seymour Hoffman.

  • @googleeaterwoot Uh, well ya Kaufman is the brilliant one in THIS FILM, but I'm not only limiting Hoffman to this film. I'm including ALL his other movies, which clearly Kaufman wasn't involved in.

  • how come almost every interviewer SUCK?!

  • this bitch kills the interview

  • Oh. My God. These questions are so fucking inane is the interviewer a fucking teenage girl?

Jesus, Makeup? Really? After watching that movie what she thought of was the makeup?

  • What a waste of an interview! The interviewer's questions were awful.

  • Want to see him in Batman 3 =D

  • it's him and Daniel Day Lewis who are the greatest actors of recent years... I am looking forward to PT Anderson's "The Master" It's crazy that the one PT Anderson fim that didn't have Phillip Seymour Hoffman in it stars Daniel Day Lewis.

  • i love how he runs his hands through his hair and it stays that way...and he doesnt CARE OMFG LOL

  • This dude...seriously sounds high off his ass..lol...does this shit really even have anything to do with the interviews question?.

  • well, considering they're talking about "synecdoche, new york", i guess the questions aren't that bad, 'cause, you know, it's not like there's anything actually interesting about the movie to talk to him about instead.

    oh, wait a minute...

  • Makeup? Seriously?

  • absolutely terrible questions.

  • His laugh and gesture @ 0:22 just tell us ... "Is this woman kidding me?" ... really bad interview.

  • This guy is gonna be an awesome Penguin in Batman 3!

  • he is the most talented, and the sexiest actor ever. i dont know why but i find him very very attractive and i' m a man ffs. i love him since the big lebowski.

  • Oh my gosh, yes!! Hes gorgeous and i love his voice! So sexy and very talented.

  • HORRIBLE Interview, so disappointed with most of the questions. Make-Up Process? Stupid. What a waste of Hoffman's time.

  • he says you know alot

  • I love him. I've loved him since Capote came out. He was fucking amazing in that movie

  • if you didnt see pirate radio watch that, it was pretty badass

  • Yeah, I pretty much am in love with him.

  • he's one of the most talented actors...along with someone like daniel day-lewis

  • I heard he was gonna be in the next Batman movie as penguin

  • precious to me !!!!

  • hes lined up to be the penguin for the batman movie coming in 2013

  • No. No he's not

  • @lsdandy He's universally regarded as a great actor by people who know far more about acting than either of us. While I am not a fan, if the likes of Scorsese and Daniel Day Lewis say this guy is a great actor, than he is a great actor, end of story.

  • he gets a lot of great marks because of his name. If it was Donnie Dookin - no one would go on about him. BTW Donnie Dookin - that sounds like a kickass name.

  • this movie was oddly, incredibly beautiful.

  • you obviously married your first cousin two weeks ago in the flatlands of kanas, hence the ignoramous comment on my husband's acting.

  • It's only an inbred who cannot spell "Kansas" so go check a mirror & grab a dictionary.

Critics are tearing your "hubby" apart for his wretched performance in Othello.

  • you have no idea what you're talking about

  • Look up the reviews.

  • ...im stuck n this... heaps lol

    how do u pronounce synecdoche?

  • Si-neck-doe-key

  • man hes a truly talented actor

  • I want to wrestle with him...wrestling with teddy bears is the best!!! They always beat me :P

  • Ugly? No! He's more attractive to many people than conventionally handsome actors. He has the X-factor. :-)

  • I think that Philip Seymour Hoffman is a very very talented actor AND a handsome, gorgeous man!!

  • He is so god damn cuddly, like a teddy bear with an amazing talent.

  • amazing actor! and he does so outstanding job in this movie.

  • the woman asking questions is terrible.

  • Phillip Seymour Hoffman is so fucking amazing! Love this guy!

  • PSH is twice the actor that Grant will ever be.

  • ahahahah i can't argue with that, he's kinda ugly hhhahaha.

  • My favorite actor! :)

  • Philip Seymour Hoffman would be an exceptional Penguin I mean he's the right sort of height to play the character and I firmly believe that he should be a strong choice but only of course if the director Christopher Nolan decides to include the Penguin which I hope he does because Philip would definitely be my favorite pick also perhaps David Suchet might be a another fabulous choice he's also someone else who I've greatly admired and respected because he's just such a really tremendous actor

  • cool story, bro

  • he doesent have the nose i think danny devito would be good but everytime i think of devito i think comedy

  • I love Philip Seymour Hoffman a truly great actor and I have to agree this Interviewer was a fucking bitch for her pathetic questions she insisted on asking him If that was me I would of just walked out in frustration I mean why waste somebody's precious time by acting In a rather condescending manner it completely baffles me how Interviewers behave anyway I would like to share an idea with anybody who cares to listen If when the next new Batman movie does eventually come out I honestly think

  • What the hell was that first question? Makeup and his father? His posture? This interviewer is awful! I love how Hoffman expresses his annoyance right from the get-go :p

  • What do you mean I don't know anything? I just thought that in a movie as complex and powerful as this, she chose some of the most trivial things to talk about. We all saw how he looked and moved. Why should she waste a precious 4 minutes with this fantastic actor talking about something we already know?

  • She clearly was completely baffled by the subtle (and often not so subtle) genius of the film. Why do these big companies not realize it would be better to have another intelligent actor do the interview, as opposed to some tits-on-a-stick entertainment reporter. I'm glad P.S.H. has generally stayed away from the mainstream...it's great to have our own arthouse celebrities!

  • Did she even watch the fucking movie???!!! I wanted to hear Hoffman's opinion on what the message of the film was, not what it was fucking like to wear goddamn make-up!!!!! Thankfully Seymour was able to touch upon aspects and the view of his character, as well as ideas in the movie.

  • It's CRAZY wearing make-up that makes you look like an OLD person! That's INSANE! I mean, WOW! You've got PSH in front of you answering questions and it's like, what kind of socks to you wear, Gold Toe?

  • Ha ha, nice, I like your sarcasm. Why are interviewers always so boring though? I mean there are only like a million different bizarre little thing s in the movie that they could go into greater detail upon, yet she chooses the make-up, which by the way isn't really anything new or revolutionary in movies.

  • Yeah, I mean she has IMHO one of the greatest actors of our time siting on front of her and all she can think of are questions you would ask Arnold about Terminator or whatever. I'd sure like to know some of PSH's internal process, but yeah, let's talk about make-up. Imagine: seeing yourself in the mirror 20 years older than you are! Crazy! LOL.

  • why the fuck is she asking him about that?!

  • The interviewer missed a lot of the point of the movie.

  • oh yea, Hoffman is sooo one of the greatest actors out there.

But ive heard bad things about this movie...idk i havent seen it

  • The movie is not for everybody. Personally, I think it is one of the greatest movies of all time. It can be difficult to grasp the ideas that are being conveyed through the movie, but if you keep a very open mind you will probably enjoy it. I certainly wouldn't take anyone's word for it. See for yourself.

  • I completely agree. It's not an easy film in any way but I'd still rate it as a master work.

  • Thats ur mom said as you where bein born

  • wot did he sai?

  • he called psh a fat fuck

  • very creative, lol. douche XD

  • He is the best actor alive

  • wow, scratching and breathing hard...

  • So he did play George Willis in the movie a scent of a woman? Can anyone conferm this please. correct me if i'm wrong.

  • yes

  • wow he aged quik!!!! he looked like a kid in a scent of a woman. that was just what 11 years ago?? that sux, thanx for that help.

  • 17 years ago actually.

  • Sidney Lumet is fucking awesome

  • think he's drunk here . . . fuck AA!

  • He went sober when he was in college... he's always like this, it's just his affect.

  • He says he doesn't think he'll be good as the penguin.

The way I see it, the penguin needs to be powerfully smart and goofy. If PSH can do this, it'll be such an awesome movie.

  • Santa Claus!

  • I want to marry him.

  • ditto, and i'm a man.

  • Who's the man he mentions that's 82 years old? I can't make out the name. Syd something?

  • He says ''sid... sidney''. I think he's referring to Sidney Kimmel -- one of the film's producers.

  • "Syd something?"

Sydney Lumet, one of America's legendary directors. Hoffman worked with him on "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead".

Some of Lumet's most memorable films are from the 70's: Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, and Network are three brilliant pieces. He's been making movies for quite some time now.

    :D

  • the first question she asks, maybe she thought she's interviewing Brad Pitt for Benjamin Button...There's a lot more s#$% going on in this movie with symbolism, metaphor and deep philosophy than Hoffman's subtle aging makeup, c'mon lady ask something with an answer we can all learn something new from

  • fucking stupid questions from the interviewer but hofman answers are quite more inteligent thank god

  • slap that B*tch omg what a noob interviewer hahaha

  • I didn't think these were very well thought out questions.

  • i found this movie very difficult to understand, like I was the lone stupid person in a room full of geniuses, I knew the message of the movie was profound and meaningful, but I think I need to see it again to fully appreciate it.....but love Phillip he is a genius actor!

  • It is difficult :) but man there are layers upon layers of messages in this film. It will take awhile for me to understand it completely too,

    Its Kaufman's brilliant intention

  • He is a great actor indeed. Did a really good job in Doubt

  • why these people predent to be important? look the way he speaks...is talking on making movie, and seems he speaks about death...

  • I don't mind saying this at all but i totally have a man crush on Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

  • /agree with this guy.

  • exactly! they're fags.

  • he says you know alot

  • i think my favorite movie of all time

  • Comment removed

  • its out in canada

  • P.S. Hoff is the man, lol

  • LOVE.

  • dude, nice beard.

  • santa hoffman ))

  • I think Philip Seymour Hoffman is incredibly hot.

  • So you're the one.

  • oh geez. i agree, but everyone thinks im blind for saying so.

  • I assume you have to change your posture???

What an insulting question to ask an actor.

This movie is brilliant everyone should see it.

  • shut up

  • I just saw this movie. I felt violated. It's the worst movie I ever saw. Even Ed Wood never made a movie this bad. But strangely, PSH was very, very good.

  • Overrated? Actors these days are judged on all the wrong things. How EXTRAordinary they are and how PERFECT their looks and appearances are. Hoffman conveys REAL people with real emotions and does so without being People's sexiest man alive or whatever. Why? Because that's fucking real. If you want fantasy, watch the SciFi channel or E! or something and don't comment things that are actually worth pondering. Seriously, people are only making themselves feel inferior with that bullshit.

  • You're the one that's missing my point. My point is why should anyone care that he is physically unappealing? That's not his job. His job is to act, not to turn you on. And maybe Toby Jones is a great actor as well. That doesn't mean Hoffman isn't great. There can be two superior actors in the world.

  • So what if most directors are scared shitless to make people like you uncomfortable? The more respected and artistic producers and directors DO NOT and SHOULD NOT shy away from real situations (like people, that aren't Brad Pitt, making love). I really feel as if people like you go to the movie solely to escape reality, and replace it with some world where only beutiful people have sex and "ugly" people are cast in the background. That's not real, and it's not worth mine, or anyone else's time.

  • Is your first sentence intentional?

You don't know why I go to films, nor I you; it is wise to assume nothing, especially w/ online strangers.

I cannot name respected, artistic producers & directors (plural)filming nude, obese actors (& actresses)having gratuitous sex. Lumet is the only one & he was criticized for the PSH scene...a noted film critic remarked it suddenly turned it into a horror film.

  • Yes? Why would it not be intentional? And Charlie Kauffman has obviously used sex scenes and many other scenes that would make certain people uncomfortable. And you are still completely avoiding my point. You keep saying things like "a noted film critic remarked" and "he has been criticized." You should realize that what I'm saying is that most people are full of shit, including whatever "noted film critic" you're talking about. Hitler would have never come to power without support.

  • It's a poorly worded sentence, that's why.

Yeah, everyone with an opinion different than yours is "full of shit."

Wow, you just brought Hitler into the debate.

Like PSH, you bore me out of my skull. Go buy some tickets for "Doubt"...I hear it's not very good, so you'll love it!! Ciao.

  • How is it poorly worded? Maybe you read it incorrectly. And no, I am not saying that opinions different than mine are full of shit. I'm saying that people who believe that film should consist of characters that are all models, and who slam films that actually try to be realistic, are totally full of shit.

You're really getting too offended by my argument. And the reason I mentioned Hitler is only to show my point that people need to think for themselves and not listen to everyone around them.

  • I often use the hitler example myself... It's nice to see another person annoyed by lazy thinkers who prefer to be a part of a crowd than using their brain.

  • no, he's right. most people are stupid. ask anyone around u when the new millenium started. they will say 2000. what decade, century or millenium starts at 0 instead of 1? lazy thinkers trying to be part of the crowd...

  • ummm actually they start at 0... at 1 its a year old...

    0 is the first year...

otherwise at your say,20th birthday party you would be only 19 because you started at 1 and only 19 years have passed...

  • nonsence. We're not speaking of babies. A decade starts at one.

  • your wrong...

ill bet you if someone had made a calendar the first year the world started,it would have gone a year before it was 1...

its also like saying that the day starts at 1 am...

    it starts at 12:00 am...

quit trying to act like your smarter than everyone else without making a case...

    your an idiot...

  • you're a friggin dunce. 12:00am to 1:00am is an hour because you cannot count 12:00am itself as an hour because it's ZERO. minus ten from any number greater than it and tell me if eleven units are removed from the number instead of ten. Nothing starts at zero. Nothing.

  • everything DOES start at 0,you idiot,if you subtract ten from ten what is left?

    FUCKING 0!

however if you subtract 9 you have 1 left...

which means you didnt start completely over you have some left...

if i took 19 years off of my life i would be 0

however if i took off 18 i would be 1...

but i wouldnt be taking EVERYTHING off of my life i would NOT be starting over at the beginning of my life which would be that split second when i was 0 years old...

  • how can you be 0 years old, genius? years is plural. greater than one even, which incidentally zero is less than.

  • grammatically speaking 0 is plural because its infinite...

its like saying "i have 0 sandwiches"...

"i have 0 sandwich" does not make any sense...

o is plural because its infinitely non existent...

on a similar note there appear to be 0 intelligent people other than me on this video so im gonna scram...

  • when babies are zero they state their age by how many months they've been living since birth

  • yes but if you asked them how many years, they would tell you zero...

basically,a second is...well a second long, its not instantaneous,so there is a split moment in time where you cant measure the time in any size not milliseconds,nanoseconds,nothing...

    that moment is zero...

    that moment is when a life,or a millennium,or a day,or anything starts.

  • very true. most people are stupid. I agree with u! although I think hoffman needs to stop scratching his belly in interviews... lol

  • And you're my least favorite person.

  • Like I care! lol

  • shows how much you know about acting. Hoffman is brilliant.

  • Last I checked everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I find PSH terribly overrated.

  • This man is a brilliant actor despite what anyone thinks... IMO of course

  • Yeah, I like watching interviews of my least favorite actors too.

  • You mean to say you only comment on things you like? My, aren't you special.

  • Your dumb.

I said watching. Not commenting. But , OK, that too.

No no no, YOU are special. Lots of negative comments on a video that you don't like. Yeah, I NEVER see that on Youtube.

What would you do without comment boxes? All those awesome opinions, all pent up.

  • "Your dumb"...Mmmkay.

  • No, you're dumb.

  • Comment removed

  • wow kelly - you're really missing out. nobody can make you enjoy a particular actor. but PSH is a very committed, interesting, and talented actor who is consistently involved in great projects. i feel bad for you that you can't enjoy him/them. oh well...

by the way - i'm loving this new "audio preview" thing 4 posts!

  • weird. what have you been watching? also, your comment about his looks is pretty unnecessary.

  • genius. pure pure genius.

  • this man is a fucking genius

  • raindrop

  • hahaha i just watched that! WHITE CHOCOLATE!
