yeah saga did not have the license rights to this game outside of japan and as no one knew about the series outside of japan there was little point in buying them.
This game is part of the Jump Tengoku: Speed Jigoku series, starting with Kafeku Kun no Jump Tengoku: Speed Jigoku (1988), then Psycho Fox (1989), then Kid Kool, the American version of Kafeku Kun made in 1990, then this awesome game based on the awesome Magical Hat anime, then Decap Attack (1991). The anime stands as a favorite of mine and so does the series this game is from.
Decapattack looks like turd compared to this, i think the reason they changed it was that in this version the main character takes pills to power up XD. Also i think the characters in this are based on some anime/manga that are unknown outside of Japan, so thats another factor.
Haha, my mate used to get mad because he'd paid extra for the official MD and couldn't play this. I got mine from the video shop Titles and it tuned out to be an import converted to play UK games, so that meant I could play any! game. We worked out the only thing stopping him from playing it was the shape of the cartridge slot. The UK version had these plastic edges that stopped you from putting the game into the machine. So we hacksawed these off and it worked!...DIY conversion complete.
Are you telling me that the reason we have Decap Attack is a repeat of the whole Doki Doki Panic scenario!? Who is this little turban guy, anyway? And why does he throw Dizzy around?
The kid with the turban on his head is Hat, and Hottoken is the egg he throws around. I know this because I looked on Studio Pierrot's official Japanese page for the anime.
no this game here is like Doki Doki Panic (yeah and the main characters both wear turbans). this game was only in japan, but like so-called Mario 2, Decap Attack was made as the US version. But at least we can enjoy this no matter what version we or or the japanese get. i mean the gameplay is the same. that's all but i like it
Does anyone know where i can buy the orginal? or even download the ROM for this? been trying to look for this game for ages, brings back my childhood days
I loved decap attack, the music is alot better than this, and the jump sound (lol) I wish decap attack had a next-gen comeback, the characters were more memorable than this.
It's because this game is based off of an anime series that was not licenced in the USA. Therefore, knowing no one would really buy a game based off of a show no one saw, they just made a completely different game. Same ideas, different graphics and such.
I played this version before I ever played Decap attack. I was pretty pissed upon playing decap attack. It's really hard to choose a favorite though. Although I like the magical hat theme song better, the music in decap attack was great. Magical hat was also easier. I like the presentation of that game better.
Yeah I saw this and played it. Different music and everything. Quite funny how we made it so much more evil. I do however prefer it evil myself though :)
Thankyou for the reminder, used to at this as a kid on my mega drive!

Everyone who says game one is horrible has only played game two.
Everyone who says game two is horrible has only played game one.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
Also yeah I grew fond of Decap Attack, though I could never beat it.
There's something to the subtle groteqsueness in it.

man, going to my mates and seeing this on his japenese import megadrive (with the red logo - woot) still remains a vivid memory.
I had to get one of those mad converters that made your cartridge stick half a foot out of the machince to play it.

The game was changed because the license for this game (based on an anime) was not gained outside Japan. <--- This was learned from wikipedia

same here -- it's always felt a little strange playing the original. maybe it's because i'm only really used to the remake we got.
plus the music and sound effects in decapattack are awesome ;)
