Rome was the greatest kingdom in history (at least in Europe) but of course everything that has a beginning has an end. Even though the old Romans and Greeks are long gone all that they fought and died for lives today in western civilization. Respect
I find it so sad that an empire that had such success was eventually pushed back and destroyed, they should have ruled the world. Imagine how you would have felt if you could have lived from the start to the end of Rome, in the beginning, happiness and the feeling of safety as you read the reports of your armies expanding the borders and slaughtering any army they encountered. And towards the end, how would you have felt knowing that the barbarians were on your doorstep, annihilation inevitable.
@Melishere1 Perhaps, but I was merely looking at it from their point of view, in fact I do agree with you. However I still think the Roman Empire is a facinating part of history. It's the sort of mentality that would make you fight to the death for your country. I wouldn't join the military to be sent of to afganistan in a pointless war, but if a foreign power was invading my country and it was likely we would lose, just hand me a gun and I would happily fight to the death.
Im playing as the Greek cities and I finished Macedon and got to the Julli and finished them off then I went to Rome and they were revolting under the senate and I bribed most of the soldiers out so it was easy and the Scippi and Brutti capital was conquered and right now at Croton I have three large armies surrounding it. My sacred band of Ottobulus (Led by my faction leader from Ottobolus who is also my best general) made up of experienced soldiers. Yes
The Scipii are easy if you take out Carthage quick and early. The Julii are in my opinion the hardest because the Early Roman troops are weaker than most Gaullic Warbands. The Brutii are easy if you take the Far East, where Pontus and Egypt are. Start with Crete, move East, use Crete and the other island as Forts, keep units spilling out constantly. use them to attack Pontus. That part is easier if you wait till you have the Legions. Hope this helps
@UserRelated i found which is the easiest it is julii becuz if u go straight towards the spanish lands take them out early u can bring more troops up and by one by one take out the towns.
@Darkfollower01 interesting technique. Any time I play as the Julii I always move North and North West, taking the Gauls territory. I ally with Germania, move up to their borders, also taking the Gaul city's to the West and invading Spain. I usually run into problems with Britannia, I can never beat them. Another issue I come across is squalor in the captured city's, how do you get rid of squalor, in every TW game its always the main issue for me.
for killing britania u just gotta get a bunch of cavalry so there mounted archers wont knock them in the air also u shud take out gauls strongest cities around u first then they will eventualy come to u and try to make ally
@Darkfollower01 I do ally with them, but what usually happens is they will build up defenses and attack me with their entire army, causing me to become almost wiped out, or a patrol will get caught in a battle with them and another faction and they turn against me. I tried to build an army fast and move up by ship to attack on Great Britan but pirates destroyed my fleet.
well with the fleet problem uve got to take gauls city in the peninsula so u can make a bunch of boats then take them up to where the crossing is and for gauls defenses they sometimes take there hole army out of the town and thats the time when u gotta strike if they come back with the army and try to take it back bring up more units to try and stop them also when u press the ~ key it goes to commands say ? then enter then say oliphaunt in a city itll help alot
i m playing the imperial campaign with the scipii faction(blue)
but after the mission to get trade rights with numidia, there wasnt any other senate mission given. about 40over turns have passed without anything and i m getting bored. i heard to conquer rome is to gain popularity with the senate but if i m not given any tasks, how can i?
did you now the julli created the roman empire and take italy i like to play julli the most but brutti ias only easy when you take greece, macedon, trace, when you arrive in turkey it will be little harder because pontus take turkey
depends because i went with julli and i conquered europe and by the time i was in asiia m it owned by egypt it was easy to conquer til i got to jerusalem
it means they like you and decided to berate the Brutii's and Julii's for not being more like you. so for right now conquer as many other settlements as you can, that will raise your standing with the plebs, make the senate fear you and ask your Faction leader to commit suicide, say know and you then can capture rome.
in my campaign im the roman brutii green flag, I wiped the gauls, the dacians, and the Thrace, the greeks, and the macedons. I have lots of money and lots of men. Everyone is happy. oh i destroyed spain with some help
@phoenixking321 Because of the power of Keballinos the conqueror(in my greek campaign), grandson of Kleomenes of Sparta the reunificator, alsoone of the ascendants of Alexander the Great.
@GreetingsAmerica Rise of Nations is one of the best damn game ever made, with some of the best soundtrack of any game, same with Rome: total war, but the music is better in RoN. Sweet video, great idea.
No Romans were all but defeated by the Huns but an army made up of what was left of the Roman legions, Visigoths, and other barbarian tribes were led by General Aetius and he fought Attila the Hun to a stalemate at the Battle of Chalon in 451 AD despite losing much of his army Attila marched down to take Rome but Pope Leo went to speak to Attila and persuaded Attila the march back to the Hun lands on the Danube
oh that's right. I loved RON, I wasted my whole high school career on that game. all i would do was play that game, I could never get communism to work properly in the game, i kept loosing to the capitalist pigs :) They should make a sequel to that, I hated that legends one.
scipii did exist! he was one of the great roman generals..he was called scipii the african cause he fought against the africa nations! it was no faction like brutii was no faction...but it is a game:P he should have put scipii death too to be complete:P
Aww...=( poor Romans...Lol how dare they the game is named after them do u understand me who ever killed them!?!?!? Its ROME TOTAL WAR do u UNDERSTAND that?!?!!?!?
Yeah but to make the game manageable they had to divide it up, Rome conquered a lot of space, and being at war with so many factions at once would be a pain in the arse!
ok first of all rome wouldnt fall they were the super power and theyre soldiers were the finest in the world at that time, second at 0:57 youd think those auxilia would notice horsemen charging down a hill at them and they wouldnt have probably ripped the shit out of those cavalry, third bullshit there are only Roman bodies after that battle, the barbarians were untrained un-equiped and undisiplined unlike the legionaires who would have kicked their asses. Romans would have wasted up.
Actually, rome was very, very nearly destroyed by Hannibal of carthage in the second punic war. Hannibal destroyed nearly all of the roman army and could have taken the undefended city of Rome but instead he waited too long and he was destroyed by Roman reinforcements
He could not take the city cause he had no siege equipment, and then Rome had a new gutsy general called scipio who had studied hannibal in previous battles, he then sailed to carthage and hannibal was recalled back to carthage to muster its defense, he outnumbered scipio, but scipio had better soldiers and better tactics. Hannibal lost alot of men from not fighting cause mercanries need to be paid, this was also a tactic, to defeating him, Rome starved him of battle.
OK...No hannibal actually took rome and then after about 2 or 3 years the romans attacked carthage and he got scared, took all his men back to carthage and got slaughtered then the romans had carthage and Rome, just one emample of great roman tactics
Now thats a shame, people remember the Roman's bad moments, like Teutoberg but they don't know that Julius Caesar with 40,000 Roman Soldiers Utterly slaughtered and routed (this was when complete annihilations were relevant and not just a fraction but the whole force was destroyed) 250,000 Gauls...Just one great day for Rome. Another was when Boudicca was revolting in Britannia. She had gathered a horde of 100,000 British warriors around her. A Roman general shows but with an army....
You and every other Anglo Saxon need to stop refering to Rome as "She". For one Rome was named in Honour of Both Romulus and Remus, both who were "Men" and not Women. Had they been born Women I would agree with "She". Second They were also refered to as the "Sons of Mars" not the "Daughters of Mars" to even make an educated and well read person to make such a mistake. Third Roma for Romulus in the former Western Roman Empire; REMA [Rima] for Remus in the Eastern Empire of REMA! BIZANTIA!
Romans, like most Balkan, and Eastern European, excluding decaying Saxonia Germania Deutschlunde have the same grammer as the Romans. Their culture survived in the Balkans, and you attack their Christian descendants while your leaders are bribed by UCK Albanian druglords; the same allies who attacked Fort Dix in the USA and Stole Bush's or should I say "Busch's" Watch. Don't be fooled by my name, I more than a match for youm bring on the arguements, you won't win. I like the effort though.
up* sorry, with 10,000 Roman Soldiers. 1 tenth the number of Britons. Good odds for the British...the Romans Massacre 80,000 of them, 20,000 running from the Romans might. How many Romans died? 400.
Yes, Romans have their disgraceful battles but so does every other army. Yes, every other army also has great victories...although none as many or as great as the Romans. End of History lesson.
Julius Caesar fighting off the Republican forces in Greece is another good example of good Roman fighting skill, and against their fellow Romans who outnumbered them nearly 10 to one.
@zudikas8 Rome fell due to the Third Century Crises, were the mass increase of the army swelled to a million men, when the fighting was over high economic inflation pledge the empire. Also the men returning home from the war lost their land due to not paying taxes, this lead to increased revolts to Generals forming their own armies promising food, land and wealth to all that join.
I also disagree the Roman Empire really fell around 1453 CE.
