I did not know that the color was called "earth green." And I did not know that the stripe was dealer installed! I loved my RX-3. It was the fastest off-the-floor car that I have owned. It's demise was caused by me. One day I went to the bank and left my girlfriend in the car with it running. It was a hot day and I neglected to pull the "fast idle" knob out. This would have made the fan go faster to cool better. Engine warped - coolant now leak into combust. chambers - repair too costly - trade1
To be really original, the stripes along the side would be a very dark blue. I bought one brand new on Feb 14-1973 - same lime green as well. I used to stomp all over Corvettes, Datsun 240's, TVR's, TR6's and Merc Capri's with it. The speed was outrageous. Now if I could invent a time machine.......
@TheCountAlucard The paint code was EU "Earth Green." The door stripes were a dealer (or port) option...they came in a package with a mazda part# 0000-88-XXXX. Last four dependent on color. I have owned over 30 of these cars, my favorite was a very late production '78...most of the earth green Rx-3s around Atlanta had the white door stripes, as well as the pseudo-Shelby stripes across the bottom of the doors...
i love this car i just bought a 74 for 500 dollars needs windows and paint was keyed but solid and perfect except for that stuff... will post vids soon of it check my fd out!!
just noticing but i'm pretty sure the engine isn't original, @2:33 you can see the motor is stamped with 13b, which if i'm correct, was made late 1984 or 1985. Don't get me wrong its a beautiful car, but just noticing. I thought these had the 10a or the 12a rotary in them originally.
True. The 13B first appeared in the rx4(1975?), as it needed more torque in the heavier body. This example is very far from "stock" and has the 12A nosecone.
This was my moms first car.. it was a 73 bought in 1979. It was cheap due to a bad paint job. She just learned to drive and always speed cuz you never knew how fast it was going. The police stoped her many times and gave her warnings (but she never got a ticket cuz she was soooo MOM) Unfortunely my dad hated it cuz he couldnt fix it himself. so we sold it in1980 to someone who restored it and still races it . It was always her favorite and had a picture on our mantle like a family member.
I had a new 1973 in the same lime green color. The stripe on the side is not stock. The stripe should be a very dark blue. The tail lights are stock, however, the plastic that surrounds the lights was painted black. The original engine came with a stock 4 barrel. It also had a stock electric fuel pump mounted in the trunk. It was one of the fastest cars on the road. I had no trouble shutting down most V8's from the start right up to 135 mph.
@aaroncake plastic american cars, like the new corvettes and stuff. metal ones (which are the ones that dont make him puke), pretty much any old american muscle, like chargers.
@born2stab Ah, now I get it. Of course, a new Vette would run circles around any of the old muscle cars. And for that matter, almost anything available today as well. :-)
My older nrother had one like that but it had a custom stripe/paint scheme, I use to take it to auto hobby class and do maintenance. I loved that car with a four barrel it was fast for it's day!

I've always liked Mazdas of the 70s. Most of them are quite attractive looking cars.
