  • Awesome as always

  • Gotta give kudos and credit to Buddy Greco for the alternate lyrics and hip melodic variations, A FINE Jazz pianist too! Keep swingin' in Foggy London Town Buddy!

  • Goofy, funny and HIP, all at the same time! Hey baby! Sheer fun.

  • Take a deep breath ... and press Play ..

  • not sure you can compare buddy greco with sinatra, they have very different voices, buddy is much more upbeat, light with a softer "colour", different to franks darker voice. frank kinda ended up taking possession of a lot more songs than most. great singers of which there were many, bring different qualities to the same songs...

  • TRAMPS LIVE IN CARDBOARD BOXES AND DRINK METHS

NO SHE ISNT. SHE'S A CALL GIRL.

  • I love everyone's version of this song. But, Buddy Greco's version is my all time fav.

  • The pastel colors envelope are perfect for Easter which works out perfect, considering it was Easter yesterday. Nice Easter colors.

  • join the Buddy Greco Appreciation Society on Facebook

  • Look out England - Buddy and Lezlie are closing their Cathedral City club this month and moving to London!

  • Thats why,Thats why ,This song belongs to Buddy the way Mack the knife belongs to Darin.Forever

  • great video! won't see this on much music

  • hey, i neva both with people i hate!!

  • Last night I saw Buddy Greco @ the Razz Room in SF. He's my favorite jazz singer/piano man & I saw him on my 13th B-day 45 years ago, too. The wild thing, he even remembered me! Signed his CD just the way he did the albumbs way back then, "I love you, Buddy" He's still just as wonderful as ever! Lezlie is fantastic too, you gotta know Peggy Lee's smiling on that lady right now.

  • I love Buddy and this video, but let's be clear...THE version of The Lady is a Tramp is Sinatra's, from Pal Joey. A close second is Frank & Ella from Sinatra's 1967 TV special. This is a great video, thanks for sharing.

  • Wow...what a jazzy version of this great Rogers & Hart classic. Buddy knows how to swing it, daddy-o! I dig this to the most....I'm hip to this jive! :)

  • Superb. I do everything clicking my fingers.

  • MAGNIFICENT!!!!!

  • he inspired me to sing.check out gypwin or gentleman john

  • can I just say again, this is class. fucking class

  • Love the uptempo swing, truly a great version!

  • love Buddy Greco's version of the classic Rogers & Hart song.

  • I will agree, however, that this is THE quintessential version of the song. Massively entertaining on every level. No one will ever top Buddy Greco's rendition.

  • Buddy Greco's version is TOPS!

  • ...The most important line is at the very end, not very audible in this version, which goes, "She's all alone when she lowers her lamp," implying that she doesn't sleep around -- whereas the other hypocritical golddiggers all do. In other words, THEY'RE the real tramps, not her. Very sophisticated and subtle lyrics that are lost on most people -- even most of the singers who perform this song don't seem to understand it.

  • ...such a having a late dinner (at 8pm), wearing elegant clothes to jazz nightclubs in Harlem, sitting in private boxes at ballgames, etc.; and any young woman who failed to follow these norms was deemed a "tramp." But the singer of the song loves this "tramp" because she's a real, authentic person who refuses to follow social conventions. ...

  • skunky456 said: "...its hard to see how any of these things make the lady a tramp!" Actually, the lyrics are deeply sarcastic -- few people realize that. The whole point is that she ISN'T a tramp, but is labeled as such by the elitist social climbers who judge her for not playing along with the conventions of the day (i.e. 1937 when the song was written). There was a very precise set of pretentious New York high society behaviors one was expected to follow in order to be called a "lady," ...

  • The only Scopitone I've ever seen that actually entertains without being a joke. Add George Maharis and Floyd Patterson references, and you've got a winner.

  • I heard this on KOY in Phoenix and the song mentioned Rod Steiger, and Rocky Marchiano.

  • And Dorothy Kilgallen gets a name-check as well. Love this platter!

  • She certainly is! Plenty knew that.

  • A quick afterthought. Lezlie toured the country with a one-woman show that was a tribute to the great Peggy Lee. Buddy was the arranger/conductor for this tour which lasted until 2005, when Buddy/Lezlie opened their supper club. Go there!! You'll love EVERYTHING!!

  • Having been a friend of Buddy's since 1959, I can assure all, that Buddy has NEVER suffered a dibillitating illness. On July 28, 1999, I was with him in Atlantic City where he appeared at the Claridge Hotel and Casino, with my late son's Godfather, Frank Gorshin. The specific date will be forever etched in my mind, as that was the same evening, that my son committed suicide. Buddy is alive and well, ensconced in his own supper club in Cathedral City, CA with his lovely wife Lezlie.

  • Buddy is a swinger, I love this version. The best thing is how he changes his lyrics and doesn't miss a beat

  • This is my favourite version. Second fave is Ella Fitzgerald.

  • This is excellent and great fun. A peek at a former age in entertainment- One that is sorely missed by many. Buddy is great. One note: This is a different take than the one used for the hit single.

  • bloody marvelous song, never heard this version before but its the best ever, although ive in this day and age its hard to see how any of these things make the lady a tramp!

  • skunky456

Lady and the Tramp ( rat scene ;)

  • This is a fantastic swinging version and to my mind is easily the best. It was a huge hit in the UK when it came out.

  • I'll always be a Buddy Greco fan. He's a swinging cat. Last I knew in late 90's he was perfroming in a small casino in Las Vegas after recovering from a long dibilitating illness. I met someone who knew him personally, they said, and gave me this information.

  • That is one cool cat...but Frank's version from Pal Joey is the definitive version.

  • This is fantastic!!!!! My mom was a huge fan, and I admit I didn't appreciate his talent as a kid...but I sure do now.

  • Great Buddy!

  • The words are freelance with references to the people making the news contemporarily .

  • Wundervolle Musik!

    Das nenne ich swingen!

    It's really driving!

    cdshorst

  • This was a big hit in the UK in the 60s. It's easily the best version, far better than Frank Sinatra's. It really swings and I love it.

  • Yeah Buddy! My folks and their friends saw him in concert in Portland...they took him to dinner after the show...said he was a great guy.

  • I saw him at the Black Orchid in Atlantic City (just sitting at the piano playing & singing) around 1960. Fantastic then & still great!

  • This brings back so many memories....awesome

  • Saw Buddy and Lezlie last month at their club in Cathedral City - absolutely fantastic!! Great show, charming people.

  • I noticed that a black and white live version of Buddy Greco doing this song was posted and removed by youtube. Does anyone know where I can see that clip? I am extremely anxious to see it if possible. Thank you...

  • Thanks for sharing. This is my fav version of "lady is a tramp". :)

  • He's OK, but the way I saw it: when you can, get Vic Damone; when you can't get him, get Jack Jones: when all else fails, Buddy Greco will do.

  • my lord i havent seen buddy greco in years my father use to tell us hewas our cousin when we were kids ...i love this

  • buddys not only a great singer but a fantastic pianist. Kudos to a King !!

  • Wow! I love it.

  • lat night I saw BG live at his own club!! he's still has it. next time you are in Palm Springs area - make sure to check him out.

  • THIS was the version I had been searching for! Thanks for posting.

  • Buddy OWNS this song. I've heard him do it several different ways and each time he nails it like nobody else can. Pure joy. This is a great clip.

  • I totally agree. Buddy Greco OWNS this song. A million times better than Sinatra's version.

  • @philmfan Then you obviously nver see Sinatra sing in Pal Joey or see the Frank/Ella Fiztgerald medly from his 1967 TV special.

  • @1FrankFan

Yep, Frank tends to be a tad flat - he was a great showman but a very average vocalist

  • LOVE HIM!!! allow me to be the first to favouite AND give it 5*
