Any game warden that would give a kid a ticket for throwing a cast net and releasing the fish would probably be run out of town on a rail. Laws vary, but here in VA I fish with a bunch of game wardens from both fresh and salt water (two diff agencies here), and we use cast nets for bait catching all the time. As long as you release game fish, you are totally legal.

Hi, how old is she? She throws like a pro. I have two daughters (2 + 4). Have now started to re-learn the enjoyment of life with them - fishing, kayaking, playing an instrument. I noticed Brooke's 'glee' in the whole fishing process. That's real enjoyment! For those who may be a bit spiritual. for your info....i uses a cast net and...it is illegal in fresh water.....you can only use cast net in salt water........and yeah imma in califonia as well too....so you should learn about where cast net is legal and not legal before you get a 700 fine.....imma serious.....if you don't believe meh then try it in front of a ranger...and see what happens......

lols....it's only illegal if you do it in fresh water.....but not in the ocean.....welp....if your wondering how i knoe then it's because i lived near the ocean and i owned a cast net..and every year the fish starts spowning...we always go and throw cast net......and yeah its in califonia too.....yup....even the ranger say so....anyways yeah you should come and try..it's actually pretty fun...one cast...2 in a half big buckets full...yup...that's how it is.....
