  • Gotta love this one!

  • Larry Raspberry!! Jimmy Hart !! rock on!

  • yes it is jimmy hart on vocals

  • @Bulkster1964 Larry Raspberry is the lead singer on the song, both onthe hit record and in this live Shindig appearance.

  • @nycdude999 what did jimmy hart do then?

  • @Bulkster1964 Larry was singing lead on this song and Jimmy was singing harmony and backup. Jimmy & Bruce were lead singers on most of their songs, but Larry sang lead on this one.

  • @nycdude999 ok i understand now!

  • I've Always Heard That Jimmy Hart was The Lead Singer for this Band. Was That Him on Lead Vocals?

  • Grantland.

  • Not surprising to see Jimmy Hart here. He wrote a lot of wrestlers themes including "American Made" for Hulk Hogan

  • die 60er Jahre - mein Gott, was war das für eine tolle Zeit mit ihrer Wahnsinns-Musik!!!

  • BTW, Treadwell was in Memphis, which was home for a lot of the garage bands of that era.

  • Yes, they all(except) the bass player graduated high school with my sister from Treadwell High School in 1965. I graduated in 1974. I remember seeing them play in our school auditorium when they were still in school. Larry had the Charisma and ability and of course Jimmy Hart had charisma too being the mouth of the south. The keyboard player told my sister The Gentry's put him thru med school, he's now a cardio surgeon. Larrry still does the music bit with the Highsteppers.

  • It would be great but would suck at the same time to be a one hit wonder band of the 60's. One day you are a struggling band and the next day you have a big hit. You are on national TV and all the chicks are digging you. And then 30 days later, BOOM, you are back to being nobody, only to be seen again by old farts like myself on YouTube.

  • @motorcityquig The Gentry's are not a one hit wonder.Thet have several hits

  • Larry Raspberry, who played the guitar and was the lead singer, appeared as DJ Dewey Phillips in This is Elvis, which was a movie that showed both recreations of moments in Elvis' life and musical clips from his career. However, the guy on Larry's left wound up having a successful career on his own. That guy was the man who would be called "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart, one of pro wrestling's most successful managers.

  • one of my favorites..... was at Redondo Beach at a party when this was played

  • That's right baby, let me tell ya somethin' baby, oh yeah baby, that's right daddy, it's the greatest band of all time baby.

  • They played at my Senior Prom :-)

  • simply great!!!!! thanks for this jewel...

  • I remember the 45 having a pause in the middle but didn't know until today that the producer just simply replayed the first half of the tape. I also had no idea those guys were still in high school. Their hair was kinda long for high school kids back then - or at least in my town. Bangs and hair over the ears? Outrageous!

  • Why is everybody wearing so much clothes? They're covered head to toe.

  • @vinishdo that's because they knew how to dress in the 60s :)

  • @vinishdo I was joking! I'm 59 years old. I still miss my bell-bottoms.

  • This was a classic back in the 60's Great song,I missed the great music of my era.

  • Hey that Guy in the Intro was on the Flintstones.

  • This SUX big time.

  • MY SISTER HAD THIS 45 AND I JUST STARTED DRUMS I PLAYED THE HELL OUT OF IT TO THIS DAY I STILL PLAY THIS SONG ON THE DASH BOARD OF THE CAR YOU NEVER GROW OLD WITH SONGS IN YOURE MIND

  • TOO GOOD!!!!!!!

  • I was reading about Jimmie Hart The Mouth Of The South championship wrestling manager and it said he was the lead vocalist for this group. I just thought it was interesting. Because I had no idea he was ever a singer....

  • @klink708 Jimmie Hart sang lead on some of the band's songs, but Larry Raspberry sings lead on this one. Jimmy is the dark-eyed guy at :41.

  • Dancin' and "Prancin'"?????? What dufus dreeamed up lameazz lyrics like that. PRANCIN???Sucks.

  • i love love love this song i wish i lived my teen years in the fifties and sixties man stuff was poppin back then now music is trash i love this old school lets go to the jukebox and dance song!!

  • Just to let you know, us kids DO NOT write our age in our posts. So dumb! if we like something, we just say it!! It's just old people trying to prop up their music and pretend everyone young listens to it. Pathetic. Anyway great song. Love when my father puts it on in the car.

  • @holybulz27 nah im a legit 17 year old actually

  • Am i the only 17 year old who loves this song?

  • @stratOcasta17 NO IM 18 AND I LOVE THIS ALSO. hate people who get pissed at us "youngsters" for posting our age and saying we like a song. all we are trying to do is show that not everyone of our generation are complete idiots and a selected few know the difference between good and bad music. AND THIS RIGHT HERE IS GOOD MUSIC =D

  • @KyplayaZ4lyfe I enjoy it when I see the younger generation admire my generations music. Good for you for having such excellent taste! I am 62 by the way.

  • @Fedproman haha awesome. its a pleasure to listen to your generations music.

  • Too bad you kids can't dance like this

  • @topazrain Ha, this music isn't 'hip' for the kids these days!

  • @MrCarl220 A lot of today's music sucks because of mindless retreaded shit produced by no-talent c-rappers & flip floppin hip hopping pop bitches. The once relevant MTV is partly responsible for programming the masses with today's garbage (I mean music). This tune rocks & is all about having fun. Get with the program or get the fuck off the planet hollywood!

  • @stp88661 The don't even cal MTV 'music television' anymore. And you're right about the mindless garbage they program into people. There is hardly a unique style anymore for bands, it seems they all sound the same.

  • god bless those go-go dancers:).

  • Fantastic music !!!!

  • jimmy hart is the guy singing on the lead singers left.

  • Wow! Larry Raspberry at 16 or 17. What a trip! You should check out his later band, Larry Raspberry and the High Steppers.

  • can any point out the mouth of the south Jimmy Hart in this group

  • @MrCountrydj Sure! He is the guy on the right with the long bangs (lol they all do), but not playing an instrument.

  • Everything about this video is awesome! The Gentrys, their music, the wild choreography (love them go-go dancers) the crazy frenetic camera work. There are few acts or performers who sound as good live as they do in the studio.......The Gentrys sound better live.

  • 7 People are deaf.

  • The vocalist right of the lead singer is wrestling manager Jimmy Hart (Brother.)

  • @michaelisajerk Jimmy joined the group after this side was cut, but appears in pretty much every performance clip I've seen of it

  • @thecountofbasie Everything I've read about him said that he joined the band in May 1963, their inception. I know he didn't write or sing lead on "Keep on Dancing", though. Can you link me a source confirming when Hart joined the band?

  • @michaelisajerk Checked over some info just now, and can't find anything to contradict Jimmy joining in '63, but I'd swear I read something to the contrary years ago...then again that could well be wrong...still just being associated with this song is possibly even cooler than his wresting career...

  • @thecountofbasie I think for Hart to go from The Gentrys and to professional wrestling, and make big business the way he has is a testament to his talent and hard work. I celebrate both his time in The Gentrys as well as his contributions to wrestling. He is a guy that just knows how to entertain.

  • @michaelisajerk I was a huge fan during the rock'n'wrestling era, still watch and follow...and the Mouth of the South is unforgettable...as is this side...couldn't agree more with you...

  • I just saw these guys by accident bar hopping in Torrance, CA. No lie. Easter weekend at the Crest you can catch em.

  • @FreePercussion I heard you like it in the butt

  • why cant music still be like this im only 29 years old and i love the music i think this is real music not like that stuff they play today

  • @lostboy678 me 2 I am 29 too and i think the music and Tv are all trash today. Wish people realsie that and try and bring back good music like this.

  • @calihartley2010 I'm working at it ;)

  • @pziebold wow thats great. But how will you do it? Please let me know if I can help.

  • @calihartley2010 Playing guitar and singing at the same time, writing my own material, and practice, practice, practice. Singing with soul and making songs catchy. Never forgetting the 50's, 60's, and oddly enough punk rock. You could help by promoting my videos if I had a web cam. I should be getting one next month. I will send you a friend request and let you know when I get a web cam.

  • Great Memphis Band

  • Larry Raspberry singing lead on this. All were in high school at the time I think. In Memphis.

  • Jimmy Harts the man! All the wrestling theme songs he wrote. He's a genius.

  • i gotta say...even 2 this day...even though he was a heel 4 most of his wrestling career 7 such...jimmy hart has had that sorta "boyish(ness)" quality 2 his look & such...imho...

  • a really good song.... the first to fade out, and come back. play it again surfer.

  • someone is talking over this........

  • wot a brill track, wish i was about back then........

  • Love This!

  • Doesn't it look like that Justin Beiber character stole his look from these guys?

  • Larry Rasberry was always being compared to Rick Derringer with the McCoys as Larry was a great guitar player and singer and their hit came out about the time Hang on Sloopy did. In fact the Gentrys did a version of Hang on Sloopy. Their first album was really good. Memphis was a hotbed for garage bands in the 60's. In fact their is a good book out on it with stories of all the bands.

  • @cooltooth112 ....wots the book called and where can i get it, great comment by the way!

  • @sixtiestone66 Yes, It is written by Memphis music historian Ron Hall and is titled "Playing For A Piece of The Door: A history of Memphis Garage and Frat Bands 1960-1975. He iw writing another , also. Google Memphis garage bands and you can find this info on the first page that pops up.

  • Larry Rasberry is singing lead vocals on this song. he left after the first album and Jimmy Hart sang lead vocals on the 2nd album. They had a small hit with Jimmy singing Neil Young's Cinnamon Girl. They were all members of the high school band which was #1 band in country. They all had talent and good training with the high school band. Larry Rasberry is still in the music business, still performing. He was great. I also remember they won the talent contest on Ted Mack's Amateur Hour.

  • First concert I ever went to was The Gentrys at my high school auditorium. All members went to Treadwell High School except the bass player. They all graduated

with my sister in 1965. I was just a kid. I graduated from Treadwell in 1974. Their concert blew me away as I had already bought their first album and they played the entire album. Larry Rasberry(now Larry Rasberry and the Highsteppers) was the leader. Guitarist and vocals. And Yes, Jimmy Hart sang also. The Mouth of The South.

  • best music ever! im 16 and wish i grew up in the 60's...

  • hard to believe thats jimmy mouth of the south hart singing

  • @Fultonfalcons86 You mean that guy from WWE ?

  • I agree...great Vox bass

  • I was maybe 9 or 10 when I first heard this song on the radio. It was the coolest song I had ever heard.

And I remember watching this show an falling completely in love with the Shindig dancers, and being in awe of their moves and sexual energy.

It gave me a lot to look forward to growing up.

Thank you The Gentrys and thank you Shindig.

  • JAN.4 2011 CHECK OUT THE BASS PLAYER AT 1:49 WITH A VOX PHANTOM BASS, LIVE FANG OF P.REVERE & THE RAIDERS PLAYED. IS THAT KOOOOL OR WHAT? Just reminising..

  • It's stll hard to believe this is from the 60's, reminds me of a 50's song. It has that 50's sound. Regardless, it is timeless!

  • This is what rock n' roll music is all about! Keep on dancing & keep on having fun! Check out the Shindig audience members, they just can't help themselves! They know a good song when they hear it!

  • jimmy hart looks odd w/out his beard

  • spaz attack dancers

  • Badass

  • classic!and this is way before my time.

  • man, so much to comment on here. I love this, reminds me just a ltitle bit of the Bobby Fuller Four. Larry Raspberry is hot. Jimmy Hart looks stoned here, hard to believe he would become the most famous.

  • This version has the video edited and the studio version of the song over it. You can tell that the video starts over after the false ending at 1:45. See the post by lozleo to see the full Shindig performance with the live audio.

  • @OnThisVerySpot The song on the album does end and then a drum solo starts it again.

  • Is this lip-synched? I have heard elsewhere that part of the song had to be edited in again because the original was so short.

  • The Gentrys may have been one of those numerous one-hit wonder groups, but they sure hit the nail on the head with their song. And at least they actually existed (unlike imaginary groups such as the Shondells, the Archies, various Crystals or Angels incarnations, etc). And the song pretty much became the Shindig theme - a perfect fit.

  • @Avon53 I do take offense to your mention of the Archies'.Sugar Sugar'.....c'mon....one of the greatest!!!

  • This came out in late '65, Great Dance tune, Very Big in Cleve.Ohio.

  • A very tight little song! Can't help dancing to this.

  • Jimmy Hart is not singing lead on this, it Larry Raspberry, Jimmy is singing back up and no Jimmy is not playing a guitar. A Memphis group……

  • Please, somebody knows this band? Wich the name? Thanks

  • @PaoloMi49 - Hello! The band's name was the Gentrys.

  • @laceyemily1 Thank you very much. I'm 61 old: this was "my music" on unbelievable and magnificent sixties! Unrepeatable! Greetings from Italy

  • @PaoloMi49 - You're welcome! I agree - it was a wonderful time to be young because there was so much good music in the sixties.

  • OMG, I remember this song. Great memories. Thank you for posting...

  • This is from someone who lived these days. The times were not carefree as they were in the fifties. Lots of stuff going on with Vietnam etc, but the music helped us all get through. I look at this now and remember how special it really was. To be so young and have so much life in you that you just couldn't sit still. You had to get up and dance. And the way it felt when you danced! This video reflects that mood so well. Thanks for bringing a little taste of it back.

  • My brother played bass on this......he said Jimmy Hart was a crack up

  • I kept singing this song when I was in jail. It always made me feel better about my situation! :-)

  • Who's the black guy?

  • The guy on the guitarr in 1:21! That's Jimi Hart!

  • Ahhh yes, those were the days......

  • Man, I wish we could get some new songs like this again.

  • @wilmoer It's long over, we will never hear pop like this again. Music sucks so bad along with prime time TV.

  • shingdig rocksssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • Fantastic!!!!!!! Thanks for the memories!

  • Gotta love this song, it just simply rocks! Check out the Shindig audience members, they are just really gettin' into it! Rock on!!!!!!

  • Wow, I had no fucking idea...Jimmy Hart!!!

  • The Mouth of the South, just watched the HoF 2005, where he got inducted, man gotta love that guy!!

  • Totally super-awesome tune!: )

  • Totally Awesome!

  • @Toyotaphil54: The band you are probably thinking of is The Barbarians. Their drummer(whom I believe was also their vocalist) only had one hand. Hope this helps.

  • Also I might add the drummer is exceptionally freaking good.

  • I've only just now realised..(ahem) over 40 yrs later the lead singer was a HOTTIE!!!!

  • im 30 now, and i grew up in the 80s and 90s, so i realize this is way before my time, but the way the chicks danced and looked back then is so hot. they dont have silicone or botox or ghetto hairstyles, and there are no raunchy bootyshaking. everything is all natural and cute. 50s and 60s chicks are HOT!

  • this song sucks after 2:25

  • god I love this music!!!

  • Shows how ignorant I am - I thought this was first performed by the Bay City Rollers!

  • That is not Jimmy Hart on lead vocals; it's Larry Raspberry. Hart is the dark-eyed guy at 2:25.

  • Sorry, I meant at 0:42.

  • @OnThisVerySpot as well as at 1:22.

  • Rock and Roll Will Never Die

  • Not hard to see where Jimmy got the vocal energy for that classic megaphone that he always had around the rassling ring.

He and Bobby Heenan, the 2 greatest rassling managers ever!

  • I always thought Jimmy Hart's voice was annoying when he was at ringside yelling through a megaphone. I didn't know he actually had a good singing voice. I also didn't know he wrote a lot of the wrestling music for the WWF when he was there. I am totally amazed.

  • Back in the day, there was a rumor that the drummer only had one arm. Anybody know if there is truth to that? Didn't see evidence of it in video. Could have been a convincing prosthetic, though.

  • @toyotaphil54 The drummer is Larry Wall. Along with Larry, Larry Raspberry, Jimmy Heart, Jimmy Johnson, and Bruce Bowles all went to school together and I'm pretty sure that all had all their limbs! Treadwell, Memphis, Tennessee.

  • @bettyfalls Thanks for the reply. Funny how those rumors get started, but being kids, we believed it! :)

  • @toyotaphil54

You're confusing them with Def Leppard.

  • Awesome time in R&R history.

  • hey look its the beatles

  • I agree that the music on this video is better than current music. I'd say the dancing is better, though. Compare the dancing on this video to SNSD/Girls' Generation "Gee," "Oh," "Run Devil Run," or any other song they sing.

  • My very first purchase of 45 record, this song bring back good and sweet memories.

  • nowhere does it say the name of this group! what was it? someone? :)

  • @mec24609 The Gentry's

  • so cool Jimmy Hart left a legacy in both music an pro wrestling thats 2 cool

  • The other singer looks like a young Al Pacino!

  • passinate dance!

  • Actually, that's Larry Raspberry on lead vocals. Jimmy Hart is at 1:22.

  • Jimmy O'neil seems like a cool guy

  • Pony tails, villager shirts, and all that stuff made those young girls really bubbly. I kind of miss the 60's. Oh well. It was fun then, and nice to reminisce.

  • 1. This song sounds more like 1955 than 1965. Still, it is a gas, it is the most, and damn anyone who thinks it isn't fit for a shindig.

    2. For the love of Almighty God, bring back go-go dancers!

    3. I did not know that Al Pacino could sing.

  • Old Flash? Go upgrade...keep on dancing, keep on dancing, do the jerk right now, shake it baby shake, show me how you work.

  • Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart!

  • wow, this song is fucking awesome!

  • enjoyed my week with you all...until we meet again....

    Keep on Dancin'....

  • the drummer is awesome

  • Jimmy Hart went to high school with Jerry Lawler; later became his manager; as well as Hulk Hogan...

  • Funny that they have dancing girls on this show.

  • Love this song!

  • Yes, that is wrestling manager Jimmy Hart also singing vocals in the front right. Easiest to ascertain his presence at 1:21 when he is panned by the camera.

  • Freeze at 0:41-0:42.

    That's Jimmy Hart.

  • IDLE, I think she's pretty and has the beginning of a very nice smile.

  • Love it, what a happening song. Love the dancers

  • Jimmy Hart is the guy on the right

  • Which one is Jimmy Hart?

  • Freeze the frame at 0:45 and tell me that isn't a transvestite in a blonde wig on the far right.

  • @IDLERACER I followed your instructions and i disagree. Beautiful she is not but you need to watch your over active imagination.

  • fuck off!! she's hot!

  • Al Pacino on backing vocals 6 years before his big break as Michael Corleone. this was his last appearance with the Gentry's.

  • @wilfrid55 The backup singer looks like A Pacino but I'm not so sure that you are not speaking with forked tongue. How did you come about knowing this little gem of trivia?

  • ah...you got me...thought I would have a little fun on YouTube...Frankly, I am surprised that no one bit on this....good job, man !

  • :37 seconds ehmmmmmmm

  • At :13 I Couldnt Agree Anymore!!!! ROCK ON! <3

  • I don't understand ? The lyrics are ; keep on Dancein and a Prancein ... Ok, Dancing I understand.. But Prancing ? Animals prance (horses & deer), not people.?

  • @ziggy72170 People can definitely prance... It's not something you need hooves for...

  • Comment removed

  • well ziggy, you need to check your dictionary. It's a verb and among the definitions you'll find:

3 : to walk or move in a spirited manner : strut; also : to dance about

Which makes sense... but on a practical note.. what would you rhyme with "dancin"?

  • Romancin' ??????
