Her father was from Madrid Spain and not Mexican. She did some flamenco dancing in Tijuana before she became famous in a place called Aguacaliente Casino that was very famous with Hollywood stars. My 92 year old grandfather remembers meeting her at the casino back in the day!
@aryanspan Hi, aryanspan. Just a little correction to your reaction. Rita's father was Rafael Cansino. He was from Sevilla, Spain. Rita danced indeed as her father's partner at the Aguacaliente Casino. Her father forced her to start dancing with him for public when she was only a child, at the age of twelve. She didn't become famous at that place at all.
On the Bio station it was said that she was Mexican. Even though they say that her father was spanish but in places like California Spanish also mean Mexican. Her hair was almost black and she had her widows peak removed because she looked to ethnic. Many stars in Hollywood are Mexican but have changed their names and appearances.

Not sure why there is any confusion. I make no mention of her being Mexican in the video.
