What you mean is, that you yourself have the sensibilities of snail. You require some over the top, emoting, thunder storm just in order for it to register.
Tim is hands down one of the top voices (and musicians, and teachers) in the business. His interpretation here is powerful in it's subtlety. He's a singer's singer, man.
I am such an idiot. As a long time John Hartford fan and a frequent Merlefest visitor, I thought I had acquainted myself with all the great pickers/singers in the country but I only started listening to Tim after running across this video and find it so tasteful and authentic. I am a happy man, today.
This is awesome. And if you can ever find the version that he and Kathy Mattea did at the John Hartford tribute concert (a duet), GET IT. The most perfect version of this tune I've ever heard. Spine-tinglingly great and beautiful and amazing. The .mp3 is probably at iTunes. Or whatever format iTunes sells.
This is one of the songs I learned the lyrics to, as a child. One of those songs that says so much in so few words.
