  • can you use black micro fibets instead of moose hair

  • Hi MrConork12345,

Yes you can and it works fine, other fibres that I have used are dyed bucktail and squirrel...

    All the best Davie

  • hi DAVIE,

I cannot understand what the material is for the tail, and also etha foam is very difficult to get hold of, is it the same as plastazote which every body sells for bodies?

I could watch this all day! What a great job you do of tying flies.

    Clive

  • Hi Clive,

Moose body hair or bucktail are very good for the tail, I'll send you a link to the foam that I use in flies like these...I'm glad you are enjoying the videos...

    All the best Davie

You are just amazing! This fly looks very nice. I would like to do this fly too. Shame that materials are so expensive in Poland :/ All the best!

  • Hi akaeldin,

I did have a class in the town I lived in which was great fun but just having the time is my problem so the videos on here are the next best thing...

    All the best Davie

  • What is that tongue depressor tool that you use to brush the Elk hair? That is one of the coolest flies i have ever seen.

  • Brilliant fly davie, I normally tie the Oliver edwards mohican mayfly but I think I will have go at this from now on as it is every bit as good and looks a bit easier, I fish corrib in may/ june next year what sizes would you reccomend me taking.

    All The best Cheers John

  • Hi John (Englandcaz),

I'm glad you like the dressing, I've made a few over the years which have made their way over to Ireland. The best sizes are 10s and 12s and the hook that has proved to be best is the Fulling Mill Super Grub..

    All the best Davie

  • Sweet looking fly Davie!

You'll have to watch he doesn't fly out when you open your box!!!!

Thanks for showing the detatched body!

    ~David

  • Hi Davie do you show tying the white fly, also what hook and size you use on the Mayfly Dun .wow great looking flys Thanks Sleepy.

  • Hi evilowltoo,

The hook I like most on these flies is a Fulling Mill size 10 Super Grub which is light but very strong.

I haven't filmed myself tying the white fly which is a great pattern tyed in this style, maybe in the future..

    All the best Davie

  • nice job davie.felicitaciones front argentina

  • Nice Job With your videos. I like

  • Nice fly but I am amused how many on Utube misname that"extended " body a "detached" body. Detached bodies are those such as you would make for a "wiggle" nymph. This separately made extended is certainly "attached" not detached to the main hook and not aeye/shank only of another hook and tied on with a piece of mono. Otherwise great tie.

  • Hi 27KITA,

Like what's plainly on the middle of your face called a nose I have to totally agree with you...I'm glad that you like the fly ...

    All the best Davie

  • Having just watched Oliver Edwards tying a Mohican Mayfly for a half hour over 5 videos on here, (not his post, pirated!), and i did learn a lot from it, so refreshing to see your mayfly tying once again!

    Thank you Davie!

  • What is that yellow material that you use for the body? And where can i buy it from?

    Thanks in advance

ps: your flies look great as always...

  • Hi NiNj4k0S,

The material I used to form the body is Etha Foam Block which is from Veniards here in the U.K , they are a wholesaler so you will find their materials in most tackle shops. Try the Glasgow Angling Centre, Sportfish or John Norris here in the U.K which I'm sure will have it in stock.

    All the best Davie

  • Thank you Davie!

Wish you a happy New Year!

    Yours,

    Kostis

  • ps: I found & ordered it :D

    Thanks again! :D

  • what kind of vise is that one you have?

  • Hi GatorFan749,

The vise I use is called a Law made here in the U.K by a gentleman called Lawrance Waldron...

    All the best Davie

  • Really nice! Excellent flytying and video as always!

  • could it be made in a size 10?

  • Hi vemkanmanlitapa,

Yes you could easily tye a size 10 fly in this style, I have tyed them down to a size 14..

    All the best Davie

  • Hi MrArcticFox,

Yes the colour will wash back a bit but for this pattern it is worth the bother as it does catch a few fish. For other patterns I would try and find the right colour of foam so that this doesn't happen...

I'm glad you liked the dressing...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi kakabhoy,

You could use this style but to be honest with you I prefer the standard way of tying these flies and as well parachute patterns...

    All the best Davie

  • Sweet fly

  • Davie,

I keep my waste thread long enough to whip finish the waste in front of the fly. Is this over kill and a waste of time.

  • Slate Drake, Brown Drake Green and golden Drake this does them all. Best all around fly I have ever used.
