@PLimaFerro The first song is a genre called Western Swing. The syncopated rhythm is swing, and of course you hear the country feel. It's an awesome genre with all kinds of this stuff.
My favourite bit is where he fluffs a couple of licks, purely cos it shows the guy is never playing within his comfort zone. I love that, when a player isn't afraid to hit the odd bumnote cos its all about playing the best and getting better.
A pleasure to hear a true genius of guitar. Jimmy Bryant, Hank Garland, George Benson, Danny Gatton - put in a mixer and stir. Serve with thumbpick and creative musical mind.
funny that a guy that plays mostly Fenders is at a Gibson workshop, but hey, they got him going through an Epi amp, so good enough, right? Any excuse to hear this god of Nashville guitar play!
Love this guy. Such clean chops, he's got this Benson like Jazz sound too him but he mixes it with the Gatton sort of country twang and some blues, all played so effortlesly.
That's cool that he is having is brother play rhythm. Even before he introduced him as his brother, I had actually thought the 2nd guitarist had great rhythm and was really adding to the song with his strong chops.
i'd like to see brent mason and jack pearson play together, you know. it seems like a good combination. i think it would be great to see those two masters just jam.
its amazing how some people can distinguish between the genius of Scotty Anderson and Brent Mason. NOBODY is better than the other AT THIS LEVEL. Different...sure. Both are God-like.
How dare Valley Arts have Brent play a custom guitar that is special order only...that sucks(LOL)Reminds me of the Carlton that issued in the 90's....ooh well
Modes9 I'm not knockin you for giving it to Scotty, he is one of my favorites too. But, upper echelon players like Scotty, Brent, Danny, Jerry Donahue, Albert Lee, Jerry Douglas, Mark O'Connor etc.. needn't be compared or rated. They are all " The Man " thumbpick or not, and each brings something original to the table. I'm going to listen to all of them, 'cause they are all great.
Actually, that's the headstock shape that V.A. has used since the 80s... check out old videos of Steve Lukather (pre-EBMM) and Larry Carlton (coincidentally also session players) probably 2 of V.A.'s best known previous endorsers... before they went under and were resurrected by Gibson.
Its a Valley Arts BM signature tele. Valley Arts is owned by Gibson. It only takes a quick google search to figure that out. The irony is you were trying to be clever and in return ended up sounding like an idiot.
It is my understanding that as long as you do not use Fender trademarked terms like "tele" or "telecaster" and change the headstock shape, there are no rights infringements that Fender can pursue. Although, if they were smart they would have produced a Brent Mason signature guitar long before Valley Arts could grab him up.
Actually the Fender Toronado had the body shape of Jaguar-Jazzmasters; the only signifigant similarities between it and a Les Paul are two humbuckers. But yeah, a Gibson tele.
great groove wonderful, guitar player!

Personally, I love Scotty Anderson BUT, I think Brent plays A LOT more tasteful. That's why I prefer Brent over Scotty, Brent plays with more soul.
cprattguitar 3 years ago 2
BM swings and plays with soul, even his fast stuff. That's the dif between him an other "country" players. I really dig his playing.
