Much of Gladiator is made up. There was no general named Maximus. Commodus was killed via drowning in his bathtub. Lucilla was beheaded for conspiracy to kill Commodus.

Still...the movie is awesome...but maybe thats cuz I didn't know how off it is when I first saw it.
