  • Probably best. In comparison to Brendel there is more dramatic and better technique of course - Zimerman is unique here. Ormandy may be a better conductor than Ozawa. But here Ozawa (as a Bernstein pupil) just does a fine job.

  • no, there is only one Dionysos in musica version of this piece... Cziffra is his name!

  • 31123 views?! And Lady Gaga getting gazzilions view?! There is something wrong in this world...

  • This is a huge disappointment with horrible pacing. Zimerman has always been foremost with Liszt, but in comparison to the Brailowsky/Ormandy recording this is overly experimental and just fails. So the Patriots beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl, but when it comes to orchestras, Philadelphia wins HANDS DOWN and fingers actually playing the notes. Listen to Brailowsky, then begrudgingly agree, or enthusiastically.

  • @AJHyoton yeah, you don't know what you're saying

  • This one is awesome. But I Like this one better watch?v=HT4iXQIhxHQ

  • Yeah, this interpretation has got real balls!

  • Thank you Zimmerman - after this only silence can be more beautiful - bravo bravo ....(*

  • Guys go to Valentina Litsitsa it s awesome too and for piano solo

  • The greatest performance yet.

  • one of my favourite recordings! modern, exact, strong, perfect!

  • funny... i like liszt and deadmau5 and i just found his relative. Joel and Krystian zimerman :P

  • THIS is a pianist! But actually people thinks that Lang Lang (sic) is a master....ahahahah......

  • Zimerman, Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra delivered a brilliant performance the Totentanz by Franz Liszt.

Of all the performances on Youtube this (to me) is the best. it's a perfect blend between Orchestra and piano, and the goose bumps on my body are evidence to this.

  • at least the greatest pianist alive

  • @miliona1re so true , with argerich

  • michelangeli is a universe above...

  • zimmerman = mordern liszt!!!

  • Dance of Death...Epic Piece by an amazing Performer!

  • I like the glissandos done by Enrico Pace more, but other than that, I love this version

  • thanks for this post

  • 5 *****

  • one of the most fiercely played cadenzas I've heard out of all the interpretations.

  • a fantasic pianist and one of my favorite conductors together in a recording......amazing!

  • WOOOO 2000th viewer!!! I LOOVE YOU LISZT!! AND ZIMMERMAN, YOU TOO ARE A GOD OF PIANO!!! nobody can convey emotion in a peice of music like Zimmerman....nobody

  • Zimerman is so good at Liszt! Unbelievable!

  • I N S A N E! Zimmerman is IT!

  • the bestttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • bellissimo...

  • Agreed with everyone... This 'Totentanz' is really impressive, probably the best recorded yet.

  • Zimerman must have those same long muscular-fingered hands Liszt was blessed with. Although when you have real artistic talent, you don't need the long fingers...

  • Agree completely, this is the best recording ever of Totentanz. Although I did see Marc-Andre Hamelin perform this in Seattlea couple weeks back and he knocked our socks off. Incredible performance of a stunning piece of music. I could feel Liszt on stage!

  • My favorite recording of the totentanz. Proof that Zimerman has no living equal

  • Certainly Zimmerman has living equals but I couldn't imagine anybody playing better than him.

  • @flicfan416, for this piece that's certainly true. His technical ability is hundreds of times better than anyone else's. He can do absolutely anything. But for slow, lyrical passages that don't demand so much technique, there are much better pianists than Zimerman. Pianists like Murray Perahia, Richard Goode, and Nimrod Pfeffer can milk a piece for its beauty in a way that Zimerman cannot.

  • @KhagarBalugrak I disagree... Have you listened to Zimerman's interpretation of the Chopin concerti with the Polish Festival Orchestra? Incredible! Makes one lose sense that they're listening to a piano!
