Panama is interesting because unlike most of Latin America, its black population is mostly descended from people who immigrated from the West Indies (places like Jamaica) to work on the construction of the Canal, which explains why many have English surnames... I love this! I'm Panamanian and Liberian. I'm so proud of my dark skin. My daughter is darker than me and I want her to grow up proud of her dark skin too.
yep original reggaeton started in Panama. My Panamanian friend told me this sometime back. In the states, alot of people think it started in Puerto Rico
HEY I AM BLACK GARIFUNA THIS PEOPLES HERE TALKING ABOUT SPANISH???HEY WE BLACK AND SPANISH ARE THE SAME SHIT WHITE PEOPLES FROE EUROPE IS THE DIFERENT ONES YOU SO IGNARANT BROTHERS TAKE THE BANDANAAA OUT SPANIH ARE INDIGENOUS LIKE US BACK IN THE DAYS AFRICAN AND WE ARE FROM AMERICA NO EUROPE LIKE RUSSIAN,,,SPAIN,,,,,OR IRLAND,,ETC THOSE ARE PREDATOR AGAINS US SPANISH AND BLACKS AND HERE WE ARE TRYING TO TALK BAD ABOUT EACH OTHER ????
i love videos like this it shows there are black people all over the world not just in america and africa this vid also destroys the stupid idea that a true hispanic or latina woman has to be light skinned with loong flowing hair please black people are the roots of all people rememba seh mi tell yuh dat !! big up panama
@Ohiogurl330I like your speech, but I do have to disagree with 1 point ,the roots of the black people in Panama are actually from Jamaican decsendants living in panama & and few decsendants of ex-slaves from the coast of colombia, but If you go elsewhere deep in Panama or even to the Island belonging to us chiriqui, you will see the white Italian decsendants that live among and have mixed with the native Kuna Indian population as well as some of the blacks. most afro panamanians reside in colon
I know people from Dominican Rep,Martanique,Grandmother is from Panama, and they say Africans where there Before Columbus,And most went back to Africa when europeans started showing up.I mean all around the world you see african phenotypes and when you ask how did black people get here or there they say some honkey dropped them of the boat during slavery!
@49jubilee you have to remember that most novels on univision are made in mexico and they don't have alot of blacks there. if you noticed the novelas in telemundo have a few more blacks and that is because some of those novels are from Venezuela which actually do have black people.and the reason y most hispanic actors in novelas r white is because the upper class there is mostly white and most actors are from the upper class. who else could afford acting classes in mexico? you see
I'm Black and I'm Proud! Viva Panameno! Viva los morenos! Fuck the mainstream media and mainstream Spanish speaking channels for not presenting or talking about this stuff!
La Morena, this is a beautiful video although I would have preferred Congo music. Esto es para giltedged:
Panama sin los negros no es nada. Son los negros de Panama, los negros antillanos y negros coloniales que han puesto a Panama sobre el mapa. Colonial Blacks and Antillean Blacks are the ones who have placed Panamana on the map. Without them, there is no Panama.
@LaMorenaReina69 On your NEXT video of Panama, I think you should play the song "Si Dios Fuera Negro" by Ruben Blades! It would fit perfectly with the theme for another Black Beauty In Panama video theme! Also could you include more Afro Colonials in your next videos! Like the ones in Darien etc and Colon and in the interior and in the Pearl islands? I have some pictures if you need help! Great job as usual btw cuz you are doing great! Gracias mil!
This music and the Jamaicans in Colon city are alien to Panama. Panama is mostly mestizo and even the 20-30% of African origin or mulattos are mostly Latino in culture.
@giltedged2 LOL! I can tell you are ignorant! No one ever said that the music of Colon City are Jamaicans! And you call them aliens to Panama? WTF! You do know that Colon City has also been influenced by Blacks descendants of African slaves brought to Panama as early as the 1500s! And most Panamanians are TRIRACIAL or a mix of mulatto and mestizos! LOL! The Jamaicans and Bajans etc have all become Latino Panamanians today!
@chsn09 "And most Panamanians are TRIRACIAL or a mix of mulatto and mestizos! LOL! The Jamaicans and Bajans etc have all become Latino Panamanians today! " this is true. im a descendant of those mixes.
@BellaPanamena Hola mi pana! Como tu ta? Yeah I am doing great! How are you? How is school going with you? Everything is going well! I have been so busy!
@BellaPanamena Yes, also Afro Coloniales make up the majority of the black/Afrodescendant population in the Republic of Panama! Panamanians of West Indian descent are a minority! People have a misconception that most and all Black Panamanians are of West Indian descent! But most are Afro Coloniales in Panama!
@giltedged2 Also EVERYONE is alien to Panama based on what you are saying because Indigenous would have migrated to there from Asia and then Europeans arrived with African slaves and then others came so what is YOUR point in calling Jamaicans in Panama many of whom came over 1 and 2 centuries ago, to Panama aliens? What is your point?
@vampirito99 West Indies is a term given to the islands in the region known as the Caribbean! So when they call them West Indian it is because they are from the so called West Indies! Columbus and Spaniards came up with that term when they thought they had reached India and the East Indies so they just called it West Indies cuz they were in the West/New World!
Hey but if Columbus and Spaniards came up and call to the people that they found "west indean", that people has to been tainos, mambies, boriquen tribes members not black people.
@vampirito99 Yeah, I agree with you! The term West Indian does not have to do with being proud about being so called Indian! West Indian is just a denomynm for people who come from the islands located in between North America mainland proper and South America mainland proper! So people from the West Indian islands are INDEED west indian! That is just a term of regionalism, NOT the black race however it is connected to being black although many West Indians are so called black!
@vampirito99 Also NOT ALL Black Panamanians are Caribbean/West Indian descent! Blacks have long lived in Panama ever since there ever was a Panama! The first African slaves that arrived to Panama came as slaves early in the 1500s! These blacks that arrived before the Caribbean descent peoples are known as Afro Colonials! Black slaves were brought to Panama as well first!
@vampirito99 In Panama, chombos was a derogatory term for those so called blacks in Panama of West Indian descent equivalent to the term "nigger" in a way! Also don't forget about Hispanic black Panamanians and Colombians known better as Negros nativos or Afro Coloniales, or playeros, or come cocos,
This video is wonderful! I'm proud of my black and Panamanian roots and this video does such a great job of capturing how beautiful and diverse we truly are. Thank you.
@chsn09. U can't leave out zambos. u keeping emphasizing mulato-mestizo but not zambos.black and indian stronger than white.mulato (white/black) + mestizo (white/ indian) would make panama dna 1/2 white and 25% black and indian each that's not panama. thats p.rico even tho its blackening. afrocolombians and many r zambos (black/indian) migrate and affect panama. countin zambos as mestizos cuts black dna and counting dem as mulatos cut out indian blood dna & at same time uppin white blood.
@applesandspeed. bs that panamanians are mainly mestizo (indian and white) with some african dna. this is bs. the strongest dna in panama is african, followed closely by indian and then white. panama is getting blacker and indian everyday. they have higher birthrates, many immigrants are blacks from colombia. west indians still immigrate to panama. yeah they leave as well. black is prevelant in panama. panamanians are zambos with some white.
@chsn09 I'm right and you just proved my point. panamanians r mainly african and indian with a lower white percentage. how in the heck can it be consider a mestizo majority when the black and indian dna are stronger than white. black and indian r zambo. 2ndly u say panamanians r mestizo-mulato mix. if that was the case panamanian dna who be 50% white 25 % black 25% indian. U see what i'm saying. that would make the white the strongest.
@mykole84 Yeah Panamanians are a mestizo-mulatto mix! Most Panamanians are of mixed black, Spanish, and Native American descent/ancestry! And the majority of Black Panamanians are descendants of Afro Panamanian slaves of the Colonial period and from Colombia known as AFRO COLONIALS! Also a lot of people from Dominican Republic are coming to Panama more and more so Panama is getting blacker!
@chsn09. yo look at blacks in mexico who they keep calling afro-mestizos when the vast majority r zambo (mainly indian and black). adding mestizo only exagerates the spaniard blood. panamanians are mainly zambos just like the people in choco. who are mainly black or black and indian (zambo). learn about zambos. look at countries like honduran which is mainly indian, mestizo and zambo and black. garifunas culturally zambos racially black.
@mykole84 LOL! Yeah I agree with what you are saying bro! Most of the blacks in Mexico are TRUE zambos! Same with Guatemalans! Most of the Guatemalans are zamboes actually or indigenous! And you are wrong about Choco! Choco is MOSTLY black with a sprinkling of indigenous peoples and some mixed with indigenous! Yeah you know Blacks and Indigenous and Zamboes in Ecuador in the 1500s and throughout history formed the ZAMBO REPUBLIC to be autonomous from Spain! Look it up!
@chsn09. i said the people in choco were either black or black y indian (zambo). i bin 2 centr american and 1 thing seem common in most nations they 3 types of blacks. west indians that speak carribean english (not el salvador). garifunas r black but culturally zambo or miskitu that r zambos (hond, guat, beliz y nica) but culturally indians (nica y honduras). but most r spanish speaking zambos that r culturally like the spanish speaking indians and mestizos (not in belize and cost rica)
@mykole84 The Garifuna are not zambo in culture! Zambo is not a culture! Garifuna are Carib/indigenous in identity and culture! Their culture is based off of the Caribs but Africans did influence it!! El Salvador has a black African descent prescence althoigh it is not pinpointed or as visible! Panama is NOT really Central American! In Guatemala you left out Afro mestizoes! Colonial black, Garifuna, and West Indian descent his common among historic Central America!!
@mykole84 Most Panamanians are triracial! But the Spanish blood is only small! Among the African strain, European strain, and Indigenous strain EUROPEAN is the smallest in Panama! The smallest overall is Asian blood!
@chsn09. i just want some love for zambos. after native illegal immigrants from mexico and central america, zambos are right behind and since most black in central american and mexico are zambos we got give them their place and stop counting people who are mestizo as mestizo and mulato r weak there as well. it seems indians and blacks were mixing strongly.
@mykole84 Are you Afro Latino? Yeah lol Zambos are big in Central America! Remember Panama is NOT Central American historically or culturally! Zambos do need some love and representations! They carry the blood of the two most marginalized peoples of post Columbus history! We need to get zamboes recognized! Have you been to many countries before? If so which ones??
this is the problem. mestizo is not being used right. calling all mix people as mestizo makes black dna seem small. mestizos r mostly indian and white who can have some black blood but its small compared to the indian and white/ panamanians r not that type of triracial. panamanians are mainly black and indian with some white. making the african dna is b.s. all 3 dna r close in panama but its black, indian and than white
@mykole84 Wrong! Based on DNA studies and tests and population sampling, It found that 38% of Panamanians had African ancestry, 37% had indigenous ancestry. 20% had European ancestry, and the 5% was Asian and others!
@mykole84 Traditionally and historically, mestizo came from the mixture and intermarriage and reproduction that occured between White Spaniards and Indigenous people creating mestizoes or mezcaldoes which means mixed! Africans were there from the beginning but when Africans became further incorporated and relied on for slavery and labor they too mixed in and further made a bigger mix creating mulattoes and zamboes etc!
@mykole84 Most Panamanians are mestizo-mulatto mix, because during the colonial period it was hard to tell the difference sometiimes between mestizoes and mulattoes so they just called them ALL mestizoes! This further complicated things as people of certain mixes could come out looking darker and more phenotypically on the black side and thus creating attachment to one group sometimes! Mulattoes always seemed to be lumped with black at times when they are mixed race theoretically!
@mykole84 Also, please DO NOT be fooled by ignorami and other stupid people who try to claim Panamanians and especially Black/Afro Panamanians as West Indians! While Antillean immigration to the isthmus did take place, the majority of Afrodescent Panamanians in the Republic of Panama are NEGROS AFRO COLONIALES! Afro Colonials are the descendants of colonial era slaves that arrived to Panama and Colombia and they speak Spanish, and are Roman Catholic and have a Hispanic/Latino mentality!
@applesandspeed Also there are some Panamanian whites! They make up more than 10% of Panama's population and are called rabiblancos, as they are the elite ruling peoples and class of Panama!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I am trying to learn as much as I can about the side of my family that is panamanian but it's hard to do when my father was killed before I was born and his family is m.i.a. thanks again
i like this video its show blacks are in panama. i'm tired of people thinking the majority of panamanians are mestizos (indian/white) when the majority of panamanians are black, mulato (black/white), zambo,or indian. they are many mestizo but they do not outnumber blacks or zambos or mulatos in panama. the strongest blood in panama is african, followed by native america, followed by white, and some east asian. most panamanians r black r mixed w/ black
No, the MAJORITY of Panamanians are mestizo actually! Much of the mestizo population does have black in them! Historians and anthoropoligists who study deep into Panama refer to it's population as being Afromestizo, because they estimate that more than 80% of the Panamanian population has African ancestry!
Many so called mestizo Panamanians are a mix of mestizo and mulatto!
But there are pure whites and blacks in Panama respectively!
@applesandspeed Actually, Panama's black and mulatto population combined are about more than 1/3 of the overall population! It is estimated that more than 80% of Panama has African ancestry perhaps! Asians make up more than 5.5% of the population! Also we must be careful in how we use the word mestizo, as many blacks and even mulattoes may included in that group population/demographic! The statistics are of course going to be off!
@applesandspeed Wrong, the majority of Panamanians can be simply called eurozambos or afromestizoes respectively! Also most Panamanians are triracial! African features are prevalent in many Panamanians! So for you to say mostly white and indian blood with some African is somewhat inaccurate or indeterminate!
depends on what part of panama, if it's panama city, colon area yeah the african is stronger, but if it's chiriqui or santiago then it's more white and indian.
@applesandspeed LOL! African prescence is strong in all of the Republic of Panama! Also if you want to make your eurocentric or white prescence claim's you should have mentioned the province of LOS SANTOS and Azuero Peninsula which is considered the most HISPANICIZED and whitest area of Panama! Chiriqui has blacks and so does Santiago in Veraguas province! The transit zone which includes Panama City to Colon has a strong Afrodescent prescence!
@applesandspeed Yeah well EVERY province in the Republic of Panama has populations of people who are of African descent! Also the majority of Afro Panamanians are descended from colonial era Afro Panamanian/Afro Colombian slaves! In Darien province, it is mostly Afro Colonial Darienitas and Choco and Kuna but a growing number of mestizoes are going to Darien province!
@applesandspeed Mestizos are the largest population group in Panama. They predominate in the savannas to the west of the canal and in the central provinces of Panamá and Colón, where they have intermarried with people of West Indian and African ancestry.
@applesandspeed People of African descent are settled throughout much of Panama—for example, in the hot lowlands of the Chagres River basin, in the eastern province of Darién, and in the Caribbean lowlands. Peoples from the British West Indies are more recent arrivals and make up only a small minority. They live primarily in Panama City and in Bocas del Toro province.
@applesandspeed You are Euro Puerto Rican I assume right? And you said that you have some Taino in you possibly but that your family members look more phenotypically white? Am I right?!
@applesandspeed Do you know which Afrodescent group in Panama is numerically larger? Do you think that most Afro Panamanians come from the Afro Colonial group or from Antillean descent Panamanians?
@chsn09 Many Antilleans left Panama for elsewhere or were deported by force! I feel that Afro Colonials make up the majority of the black population! For example, AFRO COLONIALS can be found in EVERY Panamanian province except for Bocas Del Toro!
@applesandspeed Many Black Panamanians have been categorized as mestizoes or even whites, because Antillean immigration has made the term "black" in Panama reserved for people of West Indian/Caribbean descent, even though AFRO COLONIALES remained black in the national imaginary and sense!
@applesandspeed Many Antilleans left Panama for elsewhere or were deported by force! I feel that Afro Colonials make up the majority of the black population! For example, AFRO COLONIALS can be found in EVERY Panamanian province except for Bocas Del Toro!
@applesandspeed LOL! It is funny how you say take off Panama City and Colon, yet with the Venezuela test I did NOT hear you say to take off any regions to "alter" the test results!
I think its awesome the diversity that the hispanic "race" has today.

@49jubilee you have to remember that most novels on univision are made in mexico and they don't have alot of blacks there. if you noticed the novelas in telemundo have a few more blacks and that is because some of those novels are from Venezuela which actually do have black people.and the reason y most hispanic actors in novelas r white is because the upper class there is mostly white and most actors are from the upper class. who else could afford acting classes in mexico? you see

Panama sin los negros no es nada. Son los negros de Panama, los negros antillanos y negros coloniales que han puesto a Panama sobre el mapa. Colonial Blacks and Antillean Blacks are the ones who have placed Panamana on the map. Without them, there is no Panama.

This music and the Jamaicans in Colon city are alien to Panama. Panama is mostly mestizo and even the 20-30% of African origin or mulattos are mostly Latino in culture.
giltedged2 1 year ago
@giltedged2 LOL! I can tell you are ignorant! No one ever said that the music of Colon City are Jamaicans! And you call them aliens to Panama? WTF! You do know that Colon City has also been influenced by Blacks descendants of African slaves brought to Panama as early as the 1500s! And most Panamanians are TRIRACIAL or a mix of mulatto and mestizos! LOL! The Jamaicans and Bajans etc have all become Latino Panamanians today!

@BellaPanamena Yes, also Afro Coloniales make up the majority of the black/Afrodescendant population in the Republic of Panama! Panamanians of West Indian descent are a minority! People have a misconception that most and all Black Panamanians are of West Indian descent! But most are Afro Coloniales in Panama!
chsn09 1 year ago
@giltedged2 Also EVERYONE is alien to Panama based on what you are saying because Indigenous would have migrated to there from Asia and then Europeans arrived with African slaves and then others came so what is YOUR point in calling Jamaicans in Panama many of whom came over 1 and 2 centuries ago, to Panama aliens? What is your point?
chsn09 1 year ago
Why the people call the black caribbean people "west indian"?
First at all, they are not indian and did not coming from the west.
I think that the west indian is how the cowboys call to the person that is member of any indian american tribe, but they are not caribbean.
Black is black, not indian.
In Panama call then "Chombos".
vampirito99 1 year ago
@vampirito99 West Indies is a term given to the islands in the region known as the Caribbean! So when they call them West Indian it is because they are from the so called West Indies! Columbus and Spaniards came up with that term when they thought they had reached India and the East Indies so they just called it West Indies cuz they were in the West/New World!
chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09
Hey but if Columbus and Spaniards came up and call to the people that they found "west indean", that people has to been tainos, mambies, boriquen tribes members not black people.
Why the black people adocted that term?
The black have to be black and proud, Not indians
vampirito99 1 year ago
@vampirito99 Yeah, I agree with you! The term West Indian does not have to do with being proud about being so called Indian! West Indian is just a denomynm for people who come from the islands located in between North America mainland proper and South America mainland proper! So people from the West Indian islands are INDEED west indian! That is just a term of regionalism, NOT the black race however it is connected to being black although many West Indians are so called black!
chsn09 1 year ago
@vampirito99 Also NOT ALL Black Panamanians are Caribbean/West Indian descent! Blacks have long lived in Panama ever since there ever was a Panama! The first African slaves that arrived to Panama came as slaves early in the 1500s! These blacks that arrived before the Caribbean descent peoples are known as Afro Colonials! Black slaves were brought to Panama as well first!
chsn09 1 year ago
@vampirito99 In Panama, chombos was a derogatory term for those so called blacks in Panama of West Indian descent equivalent to the term "nigger" in a way! Also don't forget about Hispanic black Panamanians and Colombians known better as Negros nativos or Afro Coloniales, or playeros, or come cocos,

@chsn09. U can't leave out zambos. u keeping emphasizing mulato-mestizo but not zambos.black and indian stronger than white.mulato (white/black) + mestizo (white/ indian) would make panama dna 1/2 white and 25% black and indian each that's not panama. thats p.rico even tho its blackening. afrocolombians and many r zambos (black/indian) migrate and affect panama. countin zambos as mestizos cuts black dna and counting dem as mulatos cut out indian blood dna & at same time uppin white blood.
mykole84 1 year ago
@applesandspeed. bs that panamanians are mainly mestizo (indian and white) with some african dna. this is bs. the strongest dna in panama is african, followed closely by indian and then white. panama is getting blacker and indian everyday. they have higher birthrates, many immigrants are blacks from colombia. west indians still immigrate to panama. yeah they leave as well. black is prevelant in panama. panamanians are zambos with some white.
mykole84 1 year ago
@chsn09 I'm right and you just proved my point. panamanians r mainly african and indian with a lower white percentage. how in the heck can it be consider a mestizo majority when the black and indian dna are stronger than white. black and indian r zambo. 2ndly u say panamanians r mestizo-mulato mix. if that was the case panamanian dna who be 50% white 25 % black 25% indian. U see what i'm saying. that would make the white the strongest.
mykole84 1 year ago
@mykole84 Yeah Panamanians are a mestizo-mulatto mix! Most Panamanians are of mixed black, Spanish, and Native American descent/ancestry! And the majority of Black Panamanians are descendants of Afro Panamanian slaves of the Colonial period and from Colombia known as AFRO COLONIALS! Also a lot of people from Dominican Republic are coming to Panama more and more so Panama is getting blacker!
chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09. yo look at blacks in mexico who they keep calling afro-mestizos when the vast majority r zambo (mainly indian and black). adding mestizo only exagerates the spaniard blood. panamanians are mainly zambos just like the people in choco. who are mainly black or black and indian (zambo). learn about zambos. look at countries like honduran which is mainly indian, mestizo and zambo and black. garifunas culturally zambos racially black.
mykole84 1 year ago
@mykole84 LOL! Yeah I agree with what you are saying bro! Most of the blacks in Mexico are TRUE zambos! Same with Guatemalans! Most of the Guatemalans are zamboes actually or indigenous! And you are wrong about Choco! Choco is MOSTLY black with a sprinkling of indigenous peoples and some mixed with indigenous! Yeah you know Blacks and Indigenous and Zamboes in Ecuador in the 1500s and throughout history formed the ZAMBO REPUBLIC to be autonomous from Spain! Look it up!
chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09. i said the people in choco were either black or black y indian (zambo). i bin 2 centr american and 1 thing seem common in most nations they 3 types of blacks. west indians that speak carribean english (not el salvador). garifunas r black but culturally zambo or miskitu that r zambos (hond, guat, beliz y nica) but culturally indians (nica y honduras). but most r spanish speaking zambos that r culturally like the spanish speaking indians and mestizos (not in belize and cost rica)
mykole84 1 year ago
@mykole84 The Garifuna are not zambo in culture! Zambo is not a culture! Garifuna are Carib/indigenous in identity and culture! Their culture is based off of the Caribs but Africans did influence it!! El Salvador has a black African descent prescence althoigh it is not pinpointed or as visible! Panama is NOT really Central American! In Guatemala you left out Afro mestizoes! Colonial black, Garifuna, and West Indian descent his common among historic Central America!!
chsn09 1 year ago
@mykole84 Most Panamanians are triracial! But the Spanish blood is only small! Among the African strain, European strain, and Indigenous strain EUROPEAN is the smallest in Panama! The smallest overall is Asian blood!
chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09. i just want some love for zambos. after native illegal immigrants from mexico and central america, zambos are right behind and since most black in central american and mexico are zambos we got give them their place and stop counting people who are mestizo as mestizo and mulato r weak there as well. it seems indians and blacks were mixing strongly.
mykole84 1 year ago
@mykole84 Are you Afro Latino? Yeah lol Zambos are big in Central America! Remember Panama is NOT Central American historically or culturally! Zambos do need some love and representations! They carry the blood of the two most marginalized peoples of post Columbus history! We need to get zamboes recognized! Have you been to many countries before? If so which ones??
chsn09 1 year ago
this is the problem. mestizo is not being used right. calling all mix people as mestizo makes black dna seem small. mestizos r mostly indian and white who can have some black blood but its small compared to the indian and white/ panamanians r not that type of triracial. panamanians are mainly black and indian with some white. making the african dna is b.s. all 3 dna r close in panama but its black, indian and than white
mykole84 1 year ago
@mykole84 Wrong! Based on DNA studies and tests and population sampling, It found that 38% of Panamanians had African ancestry, 37% had indigenous ancestry. 20% had European ancestry, and the 5% was Asian and others!
chsn09 1 year ago
@mykole84 Traditionally and historically, mestizo came from the mixture and intermarriage and reproduction that occured between White Spaniards and Indigenous people creating mestizoes or mezcaldoes which means mixed! Africans were there from the beginning but when Africans became further incorporated and relied on for slavery and labor they too mixed in and further made a bigger mix creating mulattoes and zamboes etc!
chsn09 1 year ago
@mykole84 Most Panamanians are mestizo-mulatto mix, because during the colonial period it was hard to tell the difference sometiimes between mestizoes and mulattoes so they just called them ALL mestizoes! This further complicated things as people of certain mixes could come out looking darker and more phenotypically on the black side and thus creating attachment to one group sometimes! Mulattoes always seemed to be lumped with black at times when they are mixed race theoretically!
chsn09 1 year ago
@mykole84 Also, please DO NOT be fooled by ignorami and other stupid people who try to claim Panamanians and especially Black/Afro Panamanians as West Indians! While Antillean immigration to the isthmus did take place, the majority of Afrodescent Panamanians in the Republic of Panama are NEGROS AFRO COLONIALES! Afro Colonials are the descendants of colonial era slaves that arrived to Panama and Colombia and they speak Spanish, and are Roman Catholic and have a Hispanic/Latino mentality!
chsn09 1 year ago
@mykole84
that's not true, mestizos are the majority of panama, with mostly white and indian blood with some african.
applesandspeed 1 year ago
@applesandspeed Also there are some Panamanian whites! They make up more than 10% of Panama's population and are called rabiblancos, as they are the elite ruling peoples and class of Panama!

@mrskaylee Oh you are Panamanian? What part of Panama you from??

i like this video its show blacks are in panama. i'm tired of people thinking the majority of panamanians are mestizos (indian/white) when the majority of panamanians are black, mulato (black/white), zambo,or indian. they are many mestizo but they do not outnumber blacks or zambos or mulatos in panama. the strongest blood in panama is african, followed by native america, followed by white, and some east asian. most panamanians r black r mixed w/ black
mykole84 1 year ago
@mykole84
But there are pure whites and blacks in Panama respectively!
chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09
true the majority of panama is mestizo, but at the same time their mostly a tri racial mestizo majority like venezuela
applesandspeed 1 year ago
@applesandspeed Here is the Demographics for Republic of Panama
Ethnic composition (2000): mestizo 58.1%; black and mulatto 14.0%; white
8.6%; Amerindian 6.7%; Asian 5.5%; other 7.1%.
chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09
These demographics seem to be accurate.
applesandspeed 1 year ago
@applesandspeed Actually, Panama's black and mulatto population combined are about more than 1/3 of the overall population! It is estimated that more than 80% of Panama has African ancestry perhaps! Asians make up more than 5.5% of the population! Also we must be careful in how we use the word mestizo, as many blacks and even mulattoes may included in that group population/demographic! The statistics are of course going to be off!
chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09
That may be true, but the majority of panama is still mestizo.
applesandspeed 1 year ago
@applesandspeed Wrong, the majority of Panamanians can be simply called eurozambos or afromestizoes respectively! Also most Panamanians are triracial! African features are prevalent in many Panamanians! So for you to say mostly white and indian blood with some African is somewhat inaccurate or indeterminate!
chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09
depends on what part of panama, if it's panama city, colon area yeah the african is stronger, but if it's chiriqui or santiago then it's more white and indian.
applesandspeed 1 year ago
@applesandspeed LOL! African prescence is strong in all of the Republic of Panama! Also if you want to make your eurocentric or white prescence claim's you should have mentioned the province of LOS SANTOS and Azuero Peninsula which is considered the most HISPANICIZED and whitest area of Panama! Chiriqui has blacks and so does Santiago in Veraguas province! The transit zone which includes Panama City to Colon has a strong Afrodescent prescence!
chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09
I know it's african is strongest in panama city and colon, all I'm trying to say is that
cocle, chiriqui, santiago tend to lead more toward being indian and white.
I did not know that about los santos.
applesandspeed 1 year ago
@applesandspeed Yeah well EVERY province in the Republic of Panama has populations of people who are of African descent! Also the majority of Afro Panamanians are descended from colonial era Afro Panamanian/Afro Colombian slaves! In Darien province, it is mostly Afro Colonial Darienitas and Choco and Kuna but a growing number of mestizoes are going to Darien province!
chsn09 1 year ago
@applesandspeed Mestizos are the largest population group in Panama. They predominate in the savannas to the west of the canal and in the central provinces of Panamá and Colón, where they have intermarried with people of West Indian and African ancestry.
chsn09 1 year ago
@applesandspeed People of African descent are settled throughout much of Panama—for example, in the hot lowlands of the Chagres River basin, in the eastern province of Darién, and in the Caribbean lowlands. Peoples from the British West Indies are more recent arrivals and make up only a small minority. They live primarily in Panama City and in Bocas del Toro province.

applesandspeed 1 year ago
@applesandspeed LOL! I knew you would guess Antillean! But I don't think so! I just wanted your opinion! I would say Afro Colonial!
chsn09 1 year ago

chsn09 1 year ago
@chsn09 Afro Colombians are considered part of the Afro Colonial group!
chsn09 1 year ago
@applesandspeed Many Black Panamanians have been categorized as mestizoes or even whites, because Antillean immigration has made the term "black" in Panama reserved for people of West Indian/Caribbean descent, even though AFRO COLONIALES remained black in the national imaginary and sense!
chsn09 1 year ago
