  • it wouldn't be hard for me to eat that stuff.. the breakfast looked delicious. I eat that kinda stuff just because I like it. Also getting full off of it doesn't make me feel sluggish.

  • 8:43 is a good analogy. People would rather die addicted to food than reduce their drug intake and live longer and healthier. Most people are too addicted to food to reduce their amount and are tempted, when you know better (married) you blow off the temptation

  • @teewoods actually your wrong,CR is actually superior to exercise!,I know its shocking and I'm not on CR or making money from selling it..

Actually its easier to control the calories going in than trying to burn it off,it takes me 4-5miles to burn off a small mars bar for example.as you know calories are easy to put in but hard to burn. I've seen the studies and Joe is a very intelligent guy,so he researched it fully trust me and he makes money from law not from selling C.R so no reason to lie!

  • That salad he was eating looks so good!

  • Just seeing those monkeys locked up in a tiny cage makes me mad!! Fuck this! Also, of course the monkey with more calories is going to look bigger when he cant burn off calories Flawed and stupid study!! Also, exercise is the key - CR is inferior to eating healthy and everyday exercise FACT!

  • It is obvious that less food will mean less waste and less free radicals. Also less body mass that the body has worry about. Therefore you will age slower.

  • I think the bias of the scientist at 7:20 was evident when he said "if I have to do something horrible for a 2% extension in life, then no thanks". Firstly, it doesn't feel horrible.. it feels great, and secondly 2% is a ridiculously conservative estimate which can only be seen as biased.

  • @gargantuandick maybe some people can think that I'm crazy but in my personal opinion, 2 years of life is a very long time, the fact is that when you're dead, you're dead forever so I prefer su much to live 2 years more. But I believe that CR can extend the lifespan more than 2 years and also can prevent deseases.

  • @HughSirable

Thanks for your non-sequitur. I really love checking responses to my comments only to find that someone is writing irrelevant rubbish and calling it a response. Have a great day!

  • @gargantuandick Thanks for to love my "response". And you're right my response seems non-sequitir but why do you like to read non-sequitur irrelevant rubbish responses?, with irrelevand rubish non-sequitur responses no one can learn anything!! and my response is not non-sequitur, simply was badly explained, my point is:

I believe that a CR diet can extend life more than 2 years but is CR extends life "only" 2 years, I'M FINE. That's all.

  • Poor monkeys in cages... what a sad existence, they're so cute :(

  • How sexy is the nutritionist hahaha - the one weighing him.

  • Matthew,

What about people who use food as a comfort/for pleasure? How can they make CR successful long-term?

  • Probably I just confused, so the story about the guy who didn't eat enough and became a monkey in a prison and after became humane again and eating salad and I just recognized the doctor, he is Sacha Baron Cohen.

    Am I right ? :)

  • Soulnik,I don't practive CR,but you come acoss as completely ignorant.

  • I think the facts prove that eating healthy improves life and increased longevity.Listen to what the Dr say's Joe's vitals are.His blood pressure, heart rate and all other levels are EXCELLENT.From eating a healthy diet.Dr. Phelan doesn't look so good.

  • The study i'm talking about gained 30% increase in lifespan from 30% CR. 25 years to 32 years. This is equivalent of a 21 year gain in lifespan for humans. How is that not signficant? And the oldest captive rhesus monkey on record was CR'd and lived to 43 years (129 human years).

  • There are many known and unknown test variables when

it comes to studies like this one. You're not factoring in that part. The 1 study you keep referring to with a seemingly positive outcome in monkeys and its potential corresponding equivalent human life span implications does NOT make it statistically significant no matter how tantalizing the results are. Please be more scientifically objective when it comes to extrapolating data from CR primate studies to humans.

  • Sorry but I don't understand how the results are not significant. Forget the extrapolation in human years. The monkeys gained 7 extra years. They gained 30% more life on 30% CR. Mice on 30% CR also gain 30% more life.

    What is the problem?

  • What "life" are you referring to? Percentage results notwithstanding what about the monkeys themselves forced to live in lab cages and made to eat a CR diet

to "gain" an extra 7 years?!? Is the life of a caged CR monkey a quality "life" to you? Are only humans allowed to make the choice for them? Would you like to trade places with them?

  • My thinking is nature did not intend for us to have unchecked resources, with access to high calorie foods EVERYWHERE. I've been counting food energy for four months, 30 pounds lighter and I feel GREAT. I'm not sure about the guy's 130 lbs, he looks a little too light, if he get's the flu and loses more weight, there could be problems. I'm just as tall as he is, I couldn't imagine being that light. My goal is 160 and HOLD that for the long run. I'm a believer in calorie control BIG TIME.

  • I know who he is, but that doesn't matter. 1 study on rhesus monkeys have already shown an increase in lifespan. CR reached median lfiespan of 32 years (equiv of 96 years), and ad lib 25 years (75 human years). Now the real 'anti aging' CR is being tested and is showing longer survival for the CR group. It's working, so Phelan is wrong in saying there is no evidence in primates. He's claiming only 2% from CR, when SDA gain 8 years in life exp from a healthy diet and not even on CR.

  • 1 study of rhesus monkeys on a CR diet showing an "increase in life span" is interesting, yes, but not statistically significant no matter how you want to spin the data. It just isn't. Period.

  • Phelan is wrong... You might have heard that the CR primates are showing better survival. Currently 75% of CR monkeys are alive, only 50% of ad lib... and i'm sure the gap will widen. CR works in monkeys... Phelan doesn't have any real proof that CR won't work, it's just his opinion based on his models.

  • Matt--I realize you practice CR but what are your professional credentials medical or otherwise?

Dr. Phelan is an esteemed evolutionary biologist so

he does have the proper credentials to back up his statements.

"Calorie restriction is doomed to fail, and will make people miserable in the process of attempting it," said Dr. Jay Phelan, an evolutionary biologist at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a coauthor of the paper. "We do see benefits, but not an increase in life span."

  • And I don't feel miserable... I've been doing it for 6 years. Why would you do CR if you feel bad? It doesn't make sense. We do CR because it makes us feel good, and hope it will extend our life ;)

  • "miserable" is his word, not mine.

  • This guy goes to a salad bar for lunch?!? That is about the

last place I'd want to eat. Why can't he just prepare his own high-quality, nutrient-dense salad at home and bring it to work? How hard is that? Plus, he can minimize potential

    food contamination.

"There is no current evidence that life-long caloric restriction leads to increased life span in primates."

    BINGO!

Practicing CR at this point in time just so one can maybe get a 2% possible benefit in life span is ridiculous.
