Thank you for sharing in such an imformative way. I have severe discontinuation syndrome as well. Now I have 10pills left and no insurance. This should never have ever been released for public use.
I got brain zaps (and almost every sensation you describe in your video) from one 10mg pill of Lexapro. That was almost 5 years ago, now I have permanent brain damage from it. I have had 3 unexplained strokes since then. Xanax helps me. Thanks for this video.
PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO DISCONTINUE PAXIL USAGE: I am a 31 year old male and this is my fourth bout on the drug paxil.....I have went 'cold turkey' successfully each time but experienced the same hellish symptoms...HOWEVER...I quit taking paxil 2 weeks ago and haven't had withdrawal symptoms...I feel that either one/or a combination of the following natural supplements I'm taking is the reason: 5HTP, suntheanine (l-theanine) and high dose EPA fish oil.....no zaps or headaches
two different states. What i find most interesting is that if your experiencing the zaps you can trigger them by simulating rapid eye movement by looking back and forth between left and right. I know now that the zaps im feeling from ssri withdrawal are the exact same thing i was experiencing with the sleep paralysis.
sleep that is normally required to enter the REM phase and you will fall asleep directly into the REM(dream) stage, the problem with that is, when going from awake and alert directly into asleep and dreaming your prone to spontaneously waking up back to full alertness, but your body will remain asleep, aka sleep paralysis. I figure that the "zaps" are a side effect from your brain trying to go into REM sleep, and a direct effect of the instantaneous change in brainwaves between the...
I can tell exactly how this guy feels right now lol. i used to get brain zaps like this before i ever was on anything and it usually accompanied sleep paralysis while falling asleep or upon waking up. I had a feeling that what i was experiencing and ssri withdrawal where probably due to the same thing, because the presence of excess serotonin seems to inhibit REM sleep and in the absence of serotonin REM sleep is severely elongated, so much so that your body will skip the hour of deep ...
yes.. god old zaps.. i kind of like them.. in a interesting kind of way.. i have them massive for about 2weeks..then they go away.. when i did LOTS of extacy back in the 90th.s , i had exactly the same thing after a week of hard party:ing.. so i guess it´s something with the loss of serotonin..???
@petersedin i know what you mean...they are kinda cool. But I only get them like once a month when I get bad sleep. But im sure they arent fun at all for people who getting them through withdrawal symptoms or have them chronically. I feel bad for them especially because I know what it feels like and couldnt imagine them persisting like this guy says.
ok i did something stupid... i toook adderal for about a week and stopped and around one week after ive been getting brain zaps... is this related? is it gonna stop ? its freeking me out
Phosphatidyl Serine Matrix, TAKE IT!!!! My father died of brain Cancer. I to have brain ZAPS. It is greatly diminished since i reduced my fluoride levels. THIS ISNT A JOKE. The only thing that causes cancer & brain zaps is RADIATION!! A doctor is not qualified to diagnose it because nothing is known about it in this field. However Biochemistry knows alot. You cannot take SSRI's or Pharma. You MUST stop taking them immediately. Serine will solve your anxiety by repairing cortizol resceptors
I can relate completely; going through it as I write. 40mg of Lexapro, I ran out, haven't been able to replenish for four days, and I'm feeling those disconcerting withdrawal symptoms: chills, "zaps", sleeplessness, disorientation, all-consuming body shocks, headaches, tingly finger sensations, etc. I'll check out the link: I have no doubts about its credibility, as I'm feeling it neurologically, not neurotically. Best of luck with your progress.
I had these same symptoms coming off of effexor...it was only a small dosage (75mg) so it was not as bad as other peoples..i have completely been off for about 6 months and I feel fine during the day. I feel fine during the day now but sometimes I still have them when I am going to sleep..although they are mild i wanted to know if anyone has had these symptoms this long after being off of an anti depressant
@augbabe I had exploding head syndrome (yes, also documented in literature) after starting to take Seroquel years ago. This was followed by 10-30 seconds of confusion (i.,e., couldn't remember what I was thinking about). They said it would stop in a month or so, and it did. That is good news.

This is quite enlightening - I tried to describe this to my doctor - I called it "Zeds in my Head!!" I am a Brit - we say Zed for "Z" and not Zee.
But it is like a car crash with lightning and electricity going on in my head - often happens when I am in the shower in the morning and I have to hang on to the Shower-head until it passes - it is severe!
When I asked my doctor about it, he had never heard of it - mind you I am on 7 different medications, most for hypertension!
Well, i'm back with more research. Zoloft is an SSRI, & just like Prozac the main ingredient that makes up 90% of the pill & releases serotonin is.... Fluoride. 4mg/l which is supposedly regulated by the CDC, is actually pushed up from 1mg/l. So if you are taking a 50mg pill that contains 90% fluoride, this far exceeds the safe levels, infact you may as well consider the vomiting 'radiation poisoning'. As your serotonin runs out you become a raging insomniac with a short fuse.
I've been taking 200mgs of Zoloft (Sertraline) for around a year now for my OCD and i'm a very lazy person so sometimes i run out and am too lazy to get another prescription for up to a week or two! And during the periods where i've gone from 200mgs of Zoloft to NOTHING for 2 weeks i've not experienced ANY side effects. ZERO SIDE EFFECTS. I may as well be taking placebos. That being said i've been experiencing electric-zap sensations from when i was a very small child, not related to drugs.
i know the feelings very well...been taking paxil since 2005. i wish i didnt need meds or the annoying side effects...but without my meds i would never be able to leave the house... :(
As a fellow SNRI addict 300mg effexor daily I can in your voice and the manner of your speech the effect of the withdrawal. It happens to me often if I forget to take a dose or am late taking one. The ZAPS really hit me hard in the jawline so I have to hold my mouth just so and like you say any change in movement or even change in thought can trigger the ZAPS and dizzines....Good Video...Thanks
oh man u have no idea how much this helped me I was on antidepression meds and i forgot to take it and then when i was driving home from work i felt these crazy sinsations all throughout my body and with my anxiety i thought i was going to die and i ended up in the hospital because i was freeking out so bad i got into attackacardia well then i was put on a new med and ive been on it for weeks now... i know wat u mean its the worse fealing ive ever had
reminds me of the black widow bites on my leg I received. I felt as if electric shocks were being shot up my leg and to my chest then followed up to my head. I thought I was having strokes it was some realy crazy shit.
@ihateEffexor i think they feel funny. i like zoloft cause i can overdose and be high as shit or take the recommended dose and be normal. i take four benadryls to sleep to balance me out.
@Hateeternal2009Don't get too high, those meds may never let come back down. Zoloft is an SSRI and those give me seotonin syndrome. Benedryl gives me nightmares so I can't have that either. Pills suck! I'm back on Effexor by the way.... :( :( :(
I actually got off Paroxetine (Paxil) cold turkey (weaned off a little bit, for just 2 weeks, but after that I cut cold turkey when I couldn't find my neurologist since he was out of the country) and it was hell for the next 6 months even when I got back on it in less than 2 weeks. Worst feeling ever experienced :( I wish I had run into your video before. Thanks for sharing.
ok my doctor or "nurse practitioner" she was, took me off of cymbalta and put me onhalf a pill of hydroxyzine and buspar... i asked her about getting off cymbalta and she said to toss it.. is she wrong? are these strange tickling sensations in my brain toungue eyes hands and fingers withdrawal symptoms? or are these results of a half a buspar or vasitirl or hydroxyzine its called..
Hi there, thanks for posting. Effexor also does the same thing to me. Its funny, because for years I thought I was the only one suffering from this side effect. I always wanted to tell the Dr. but thought he would think I was crazy. I mean how does one explain this..."Ummm Doc, I get these strange Micro Electric Shocks in my brain". (Sure you do he thinks to himself!!!)
I have also had these brain zaps after starting effexor, I have stopped taking the effexor a few weeks ago and the brain zaps/shivers went though my brain and body as I weaned off. Then last night I had a panic attack in the middle of a movie theater, this included severe body tremors/shivers that was brought on by a cold movie theater. My heart was racing and my hands were cold and clammy, and I had to work to keep my breathing in control. Im an ICU RN and I have a new respect for peoples fear
Some years ago, I tried to search for anyone else with similar symptoms and found nothing, hence I just put it down to the fact that well "I must be nuts" after all I was taking the drug for a mental condition (Panic Attacks). I see now that this "Brain Zapping" is all over the internet. Its nice to know I'm normal I guess.
Question, how do I know when I have forgotten my medication? My brain zaps me. Happens to me every time. Maybe we could be an energy source for 3rd world countries, just push a plug up our butts and we can light your house. Seriously though, its not funny, and I wonder what long term damage is being done.
i stoped 100 miligrams of zoloft and i stopped taking them on monday. i am 14 and i have these wicked 'brain zaps' and the cause anxiety for me. does taking b vitamins help? i rread this and idk yet
I smoked weed on lamotrigine. I had MAJOR brain zaps. I felt like i was on withdrawal of lamictal. I eventually became extremely psychotic and began hallucinating... This was last night...
uggggg!! I know exactly How you feel, I have been on Effexor for 6 years.. and just recently had my dose increased to 150mgs.. Now If I take a pill at 8 pm... by 5 pm the next day I am feeling the zaps.. its bullsh!t! I can hardle function .. and DREAMS! WEIRD DREAMS!.....Im going to try and get off the stuff :S
to gary: i know that the feeling of these zaps are really really uneceassary. i fell into a deep depression when i was 15 years old. i'm now 20. i do believe that medication helps. i would be dead by now if i didnt take medication. but medication is not enough. support is very important.
i just wanted to tell you to hang in there. this is the first video that i saw of yours and u said that u suffer from anxiety. try a bit of meditation. u have to be patient for it to work. i hope u're better
People who are taking meds think they are doing what is right, because of the fact that they are drugged.
I did, my family did.
I didn't know what was happening to me for years. I believed in the doctors I went to. I not only stayed with one practice for 8 years but I saw more that 20 doctors for a 2nd opin. Emer room 4x NONE caught it. Two drugs interacting, and Lyme disease, which may have started it all.
People who take psychiatric drugs and know they cause harm, and know there's no science behind it, and don't look at alternatives, (DESERVE) all the psychiatric "PAIN" and "MISERY" they get. You were ADVERTED, INFORMED, of the GREAT risks and dangers, yet still took that risk. I sympathize those who were not, and don't know what psychiatry is. Not in your case. You knew "EVERYTHING" and deserve the suffering. YOU CHOSE THAT RISK when you KNEW it was a pseudoscience fraud. Too late TO BAD.
We all know street drugs are bad and are supposed to stay away from them. Psychiatric drugs are the same as street drugs. EVEN WORSE. I was not informed of the risks, or knew what psychiatry or psychiatric drugs do. If i knew THEN what i know NOW, i would have NEVER taken these NeuroToxins. I'm a smart consumer but was "HAD" at a young age intentionally BY PSYCHIATRISTS. The proper word is "BURNED". Most people have been "BURNED" by filthy psychs. Psychiatry WILL KILL YOU and destroy your family
I got my first brain zap while walking through a buzy town, I thought I'd stepped on an electric cable, it started in my head and went right through my body. That was afew days after stopping sertraline, which I should have done slowly. But I'd only been on it for 2 months and thought it would be alright. I get them only in my head now and it feels like 2 parts of my brain, at the back, are trying to connect, and if it is quiet, I can hear the buzz aswell.
The buzz is your CNS firing electrical signals. If u still have them 4 years later is permanent as most long term/high dose ssri's uers have permanent brain damage.
Ive had brain zaps for just over 12 month's, its scary at first but they stopped when I quit smoking. Ive never taken any drug's for depression or anxiety I just take regular exersize and cut bread and pastry out of my diet when I start to feel depressed and anxious it really helps. with me it seems to be linked to lack of exersize, nicotine, alcohole, bread and pastry also cereals. since cutting these out of my life ive felt 100% better.
hey !! i cant believe that your video hasnt gotten many more hits...we need to spread this..its like having this feeling makes me want to die and or NEVER SLEEP AGAIN!! i took 4mg of klonapin and i still couldnt stop freakin out about these problems. i became immobile and i couldnt speak or anything. i reasearched and i found that this is almost a characteristic in PARKINSONS disease
I used SSRI's for 18 years. These drugs are extremely dangerous that can cause instant suicidal death. The excruciating pain from these zaps are the worst human suffering man has ever imagined and experienced. My zaps are so severe from SSRI withdrawals after 3 years, that i had NO CHOICE but to take powerful Opiods to stop the agonizing pain. I urge you all to PLEASE stop psychiatry. If we do not, we, our families/friends will suffer and die. Bring awareness. STOP PSYCHIATRY NOW!.
Yep me too with the brain zappers while I was on Cymbalta. I was so freaked out by them. I only stayed on Cymbalta for about 6 months and quit them cold turkey. The brain zaps got a lot worse until I got that dang drug out of my system.
Great video, I cant thank you enough for making this. I have a good friend who is just starting zoloft and im trying to convince him how dangerous it can be. Thanks again for the great first hand information!
Hey there, yes, extremely painful. I've been off all meds now for 6 months and have less and less zaps. I read that you' were on antidepressants a long time too. Write me private.
thank u, I have tried to discribe what i know know are brain zaps and the electric shock feeling that i get through my body and unless you experience it yourself it,s hard to understand .Even ewhen i told my doctor She looked at me like What?? and that was it anyways God Bless you for sharing with people such as Myself .I will keep u in my Prayers
Hi Gary..after 10 mos.,just went back on Klonopin. Been on everything too in the past, with no luck and vicious side effects and withdrawls. I'd love to chat with you. I'm a RN also...taking some leave time.
I tried to get on anxietytalks and psyobabble. Seems both have pulled out. Too bad! Hope everything is going better for you. Your kids need you. Take care, Sal
in response to all these withdrawl complaints......from what ive heard pain pills such as loratab and methadone oxycontin etc is probably the worst of them all.....obe of the side effects of withdrawl from these meds is death
You can have a fatal sezuire coming off of anti depressants and benzo's aswell. Not to mention coming off of "pain pills" , the withdrawal only last a few weeks maybe. With the antis and benzos, youre in withdrawal hell from months ,to years.
I abused pain meds everyday for two yrs-mainly vicodin & percocets then I "graduated" to oxycontin. I went into the hospital & came off pain meds. I only stayed for two days, the main withdrawl effects were anxiety & diahrrea. I have not touched pain pills for over 100 days now. I am now trying to come off of effexor 150mg-been taking effexor for atleast 5 yrs. The SSRI withdrawl has been ten times as bad as pain med withdrawls. Not only do I have the flu symptoms but my anxiety is awful.
You think that the antidepressants are bad with withdrawal wait until you come off of the benzos!!! Google or "youtude" Dr. Heather Ashton or the Ashton manuals. She is an expert on benzo withdrawal...
I agree. I had zaps for 2 months after coming off an SSRI and i thought it couldn't be any worse. Now I'm coming off Valium... Jesus Christ. I don't want to scare anyone, but if you're facing Benzo withdrawal, be PREPARED. Find out everything you can about them and do a SLOW taper. It makes SSRI withdrawal seem like a walk in the park. This sh!t the docs give us shud be banned, no doubt in my mind. After this, im never taking a drug again. A/w, good vid, keep truckin' man, i know it's tough
I am on 300mg of Effexor (venlafaxine) if I miss one day of the tablets I get serious zappage. You have to come off the over like several months. It is horrible! It's like shockwaves of pins and needles all over and in the brain. Horrendous.
That's exactly what I was on, 300mg Venlafaxine (effexor) for 3 years. Stopped cold turkey. The zaps were bad but they have passed now after a couple of months and I feel LESS depressed. Now I'm facing the real badass, the benzo withdrawal. I HATE drugs, they've stolen years of my life, and I aint gonna let this crap beat me down any more, even if it drives me crazy. Down from 30mg of Valium to 8Mg and the only thing keeping me reducing is anger, pure and simple
i had the same brian zaps withdrawing from Zoloft - it felt like i was going to lose consciousness. Never again would i take an SSRI or a benzo (that's another horror story) -- good luck gary.
Science (from the Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge" or "knowing") is the effort to discover, and increase human understanding of how the physical world works. Through controlled methods, scientists use observable physical evidence of natural phenomena to collect data, and analyze this information to explain what and how things work. Such methods include experimentation that tries to simulate natural phenomena under controlled conditions and thought experiments. SOURSER: Wikipedia
No one knows for sure what causes the "Zaps", but they are quite common among people who discontinue the SSRI's, especially to fast. My guess is the "Resetting" of the circuitry back to what is use to be. Psychiatry sucks, it's hit and miss. I'm intrigued by Psychiatry after all I've been through. It is a science as the human brain controls every part of your body. If you found a med that worked for you, you wouldn't be bashing it so bad.
@gary1rn Not the case, i dont use meds & i have had the Zap, the main ingredient in psychotropic drugs is............ FLUORIDE. Bing bing bing. Fluoride is in food, water, you shower under hot water that increases th PPM. Its safe to say that our gonvernment is BLATANTLY murdering us. I got a steam distiller & it doesnt happen very often anymore, but you must continue to find more ways to avoid Fluoride, like a home garden, less showers. Fluoride is a negatively charged particle. WakeUp
Have you tried the natural route. I was having mild panic attacks and anxiety right about when I turned 30. I am not saying you should try this but look into it. I started taking L-theanine and it has been doing wonders for my anxiety! Just a thought. God bless you and hope everything works out for you!
Thanks for this. People need to know the truth about these drugs.

I smoked weed on lamotrigine. I had MAJOR brain zaps. I felt like i was on withdrawal of lamictal. I eventually became extremely psychotic and began hallucinating... This was last night...

to gary: i know that the feeling of these zaps are really really uneceassary. i fell into a deep depression when i was 15 years old. i'm now 20. i do believe that medication helps. i would be dead by now if i didnt take medication. but medication is not enough. support is very important.
i just wanted to tell you to hang in there. this is the first video that i saw of yours and u said that u suffer from anxiety. try a bit of meditation. u have to be patient for it to work. i hope u're better

Draziom203 2 years ago
Gary, how are you doing?
Channelsnature 2 years ago
psychiatry kills. if you support it, you deserve all the psychiatric pain you get.
Draziom203 2 years ago
? Why are you so mean?
Channelsnature 2 years ago
whats mean about me?.
Draziom203 2 years ago
"If you support it you deserve it".
When people are sick. they don't know.
Channelsnature 2 years ago
People who take psychiatric drugs and know they cause harm, and know there's no science behind it, and don't look at alternatives, (DESERVE) all the psychiatric "PAIN" and "MISERY" they get. You were ADVERTED, INFORMED, of the GREAT risks and dangers, yet still took that risk. I sympathize those who were not, and don't know what psychiatry is. Not in your case. You knew "EVERYTHING" and deserve the suffering. YOU CHOSE THAT RISK when you KNEW it was a pseudoscience fraud. Too late TO BAD.
Draziom203 2 years ago

I still get brain zaps 4 years on.
ttan41 2 years ago
The buzz is your CNS firing electrical signals. If u still have them 4 years later is permanent as most long term/high dose ssri's uers have permanent brain damage.
Draziom203 2 years ago
Ive had brain zaps for just over 12 month's, its scary at first but they stopped when I quit smoking. Ive never taken any drug's for depression or anxiety I just take regular exersize and cut bread and pastry out of my diet when I start to feel depressed and anxious it really helps. with me it seems to be linked to lack of exersize, nicotine, alcohole, bread and pastry also cereals. since cutting these out of my life ive felt 100% better.

hey !! i cant believe that your video hasnt gotten many more hits...we need to spread this..its like having this feeling makes me want to die and or NEVER SLEEP AGAIN!! i took 4mg of klonapin and i still couldnt stop freakin out about these problems. i became immobile and i couldnt speak or anything. i reasearched and i found that this is almost a characteristic in PARKINSONS disease
atmskater78 2 years ago
I watched all of your videos for these drugs. I'm glad I did too, b/c my doc wanted to put me on Zoloft. I'm trying 5-HTP first.
kamaboko1 2 years ago
I used SSRI's for 18 years. These drugs are extremely dangerous that can cause instant suicidal death. The excruciating pain from these zaps are the worst human suffering man has ever imagined and experienced. My zaps are so severe from SSRI withdrawals after 3 years, that i had NO CHOICE but to take powerful Opiods to stop the agonizing pain. I urge you all to PLEASE stop psychiatry. If we do not, we, our families/friends will suffer and die. Bring awareness. STOP PSYCHIATRY NOW!.
Draziom203 2 years ago
Yep me too with the brain zappers while I was on Cymbalta. I was so freaked out by them. I only stayed on Cymbalta for about 6 months and quit them cold turkey. The brain zaps got a lot worse until I got that dang drug out of my system.

OMG, 14 years here on antidepressants.
Seratonin sydrome diagnosed Jan 09.
If you can. I did it. COME OFF ALL THE PSYCHOTROPICS!!!
It can be done. I went from Cymbalta 120mgs. EffexorXR 300mgs. in 4 months
BRAIN ZAPS omg. no one knows unless it happens to you.
I know brain zaps. It is withdraw.
Take your meds. Reduce them SLOWLY
SLOWLY SLOWLY.
I am down to 1/2 of 37.5mgs of Effexor. I also take klonopin. Klonopin was/is absolutely necessary to come off antidepressants.
Channelsnature 2 years ago 2
were your brain zaps extremely painful or not?
Draziom203 2 years ago
Hey there, yes, extremely painful. I've been off all meds now for 6 months and have less and less zaps. I read that you' were on antidepressants a long time too. Write me private.

Take care, Sal
sam52877 2 years ago
in response to all these withdrawl complaints......from what ive heard pain pills such as loratab and methadone oxycontin etc is probably the worst of them all.....obe of the side effects of withdrawl from these meds is death
panicspreadwide 2 years ago
You can have a fatal sezuire coming off of anti depressants and benzo's aswell. Not to mention coming off of "pain pills" , the withdrawal only last a few weeks maybe. With the antis and benzos, youre in withdrawal hell from months ,to years.
kaneakeluh 2 years ago 2
I abused pain meds everyday for two yrs-mainly vicodin & percocets then I "graduated" to oxycontin. I went into the hospital & came off pain meds. I only stayed for two days, the main withdrawl effects were anxiety & diahrrea. I have not touched pain pills for over 100 days now. I am now trying to come off of effexor 150mg-been taking effexor for atleast 5 yrs. The SSRI withdrawl has been ten times as bad as pain med withdrawls. Not only do I have the flu symptoms but my anxiety is awful.
deelish3 2 years ago
@deelish3 did you take oxycodone together with antidepressants?.
Draziom203 2 years ago
@Draziom203 Yes I did
deelish3 1 year ago
You think that the antidepressants are bad with withdrawal wait until you come off of the benzos!!! Google or "youtude" Dr. Heather Ashton or the Ashton manuals. She is an expert on benzo withdrawal...
kaneakeluh 3 years ago

Horrendous.
dannyjam 3 years ago
That's exactly what I was on, 300mg Venlafaxine (effexor) for 3 years. Stopped cold turkey. The zaps were bad but they have passed now after a couple of months and I feel LESS depressed. Now I'm facing the real badass, the benzo withdrawal. I HATE drugs, they've stolen years of my life, and I aint gonna let this crap beat me down any more, even if it drives me crazy. Down from 30mg of Valium to 8Mg and the only thing keeping me reducing is anger, pure and simple
dcSENTIENT 2 years ago
i had the same brian zaps withdrawing from Zoloft - it felt like i was going to lose consciousness.

SOURSER: Wikipedia
gary1rn 3 years ago
No one knows for sure what causes the "Zaps", but they are quite common among people who discontinue the SSRI's, especially to fast. My guess is the "Resetting" of the circuitry back to what is use to be. Psychiatry sucks, it's hit and miss. I'm intrigued by Psychiatry after all I've been through. It is a science as the human brain controls every part of your body. If you found a med that worked for you, you wouldn't be bashing it so bad.
gary1rn 3 years ago
@gary1rn Not the case, i dont use meds & i have had the Zap, the main ingredient in psychotropic drugs is............ FLUORIDE. Bing bing bing. Fluoride is in food, water, you shower under hot water that increases th PPM. Its safe to say that our gonvernment is BLATANTLY murdering us. I got a steam distiller & it doesnt happen very often anymore, but you must continue to find more ways to avoid Fluoride, like a home garden, less showers. Fluoride is a negatively charged particle. I experienced "brain zaps" while on Buspar. It was the oddest feeling. I didnt like it at all.
angellovescats 3 years ago
Have you tried the natural route. I was having mild panic attacks and anxiety right about when I turned 30. I am not saying you should try this but look into it. I started taking L-theanine and it has been doing wonders for my anxiety! Just a thought. God bless you and hope everything works out for you!
