@baronvonhypnosis People carrier is what a minivan is called in Britain. It's like a station wagon is called an estate car here and a sedan is a saloon.
@graemeoliver84 I think minivan and ppl carrier is similar but not the same. In the us we don't call those old vw vans minivans. I think we in the us only call vans built like cars with unibodys and fwd minivans
@baronvonhypnosis The terms "People carrier" or "MPV" (multipurpose vehicle) are used in Britain to describe the same kind of vehicle as the American minivan (the Chrysler Voyager is sold over here and that's called a people carrier/MPV) ie. something that's car-like, rather than a converted van with windows and seats like the VW Caravelle at 2:50 (which is based on one of the VW vans platforms). Minivan, people carrier - just US/UK terminology, you say tomato, we say tomato.
Pointless, nobody ACTUALLY NEEDS (yes NEEDS) a car like this.
Granted, it could come in handy, about 2-3 times a year, but still, there are other ways to solve the problems you run in to those 2-3 times.
The average household only has 2 kids, so bringing your kids to school is a pretty lame excuse too, somebody.... please... explain why a car like this makes sense? and i mean making sense in a way that you'd need it at least 2 times a month AT LEAST.
@bluestreak117 Not everybody is like sarah palin, so more then 4 children is a very rare thing.
Other members of the family rarely stay with you more then 2 times a month while not having a car of their own at the same time and if you're fat, you're gonna die a hart failure anyway, buy a beamer or a merc or something :P
i own a v-class well i supose it has the space of a van but it has the space for every guest at a stag night. its a great car we got it for 16,000£ though.......
To be honest though, I don't understand these people carriers I mean, if you want to seat more people, buy a van since this can seat only 4 and if you only need to transport 4 people then why not buy a sedan or better yet an Estate which has more space both for people and cargo?
@mondeost2202008 the minivan was originally designed in america and could seat between 5 and 7 people, some sat as many as 9. they were for people who wanted to have a large number of people but not 13-15 people, so they could still get decent fuel economy, or people who just wanted to have more space for stuff.
Econolines is the way to go...however, very huge and difficult to drive, and high turnover rate.....but safe in collisions i think than the european counterparts

@Dickiespc Get a bigger car: you can pick up an 11 year old mercedes e class estate for around 3k, they are very reliable, very comfortable, were specifically designed to transport 5 6 footers and reasonably cheap to run.

the americans mastered the van or people carrier they actually have room behind the seats and crumple zones and the europeans mastered everything eles .....hahah
See right there is my point, why the hell do u make a car with 7 or 8 seats and leave enough luggage room for 2 or 3 small bags??? Im talking about almost all minivans out there. My dads 1987 VW van seats 7 and behind the third row is 4 feet to the tailgate and 5ft across. It holds all 7 peoples luggage easily.
Totally agree.. They named them correctly as 'people carriers', cos the majority can't carry people and their luggage--and why call them cars ? They're minibusses.
I have a mitsi chariot that seats 6. {not including driver}
I drove 1200 kilometres on a round trip once with all seats taken. we had enough space for half our luggage {wich in fairness was a fair bit, there was 6 people after all} the other half went on the roof rack and we made it to our destinations and back on less than 106 litres of gas.
Wow, I would love a cheese warehouse where I live, because I LOVE cheese. But DAMN Clarkson that is A LOT of cheese! Even for me that is a metric ass load.

0-60? Nah.
Quarter mile? Nope.
Skidpad? Uh-uh.
Stopping distance? Not even.
No, by far the most important metric to consider when purchasing a vehicle is cheese-carrying capacity.
HeinrichJamslather 2 years ago
0-60kph = 7.5 seconds {apparently - i havent tried my own people mover yet.}
quarter mile.... dont know but i reached 180kph on a street race.
skid pad... front wheel drive, it did well in reverse donuts but it was too heavey to do a satisfactory straight forward burnout.
stopping distance - about 4 metres from 60kph
whatever this lot translates to in imperial don't know
