  • I thought I was going crazy! Took my shot the first weekend in October 2011 and that was the LAST shot. Spotting, chest pains, depression, gained 20 lbs. Ugh...I'm still going through it till now!

  • Well for me depo was ok.when I first got it my period lasted almost 3 or 4 months but now it is fine I haven't gained any weight I've onli took its 3 times and I've lost 4 pounds sooooo idk lol

  • Depo was a blessing for me. I have Endomitreosis, cysts, you name it. I have suffered a long time with this. The Depo shot has helped me imensly. Since taking it, I have none of the symptoms that I used to have. I guess the effects of the shot just react differently to different peoples bodies. Now I am able to be the person that I used to be without having to rely on painkillers for the rest of my life.

  • The depo is a good type of birth control:) I love it.

  • Yeah, this birth control was a nightmare for me when I was on it. On the patch right now and LOVE IT! no problem! Depo I packed on weight, always crying or angry. Felt ROTTEN! actually thought I was going crazy. When I came off it and it was out of my system I felt so happy cause I felt NORMAL! I wasn't crazy! It really is a posion.

  • Been on depo for 6 months gained 20 pounds, I never stop spotting, seemed like my imune system is falling apart and I always feel fatigued. Been off for 4 months I still spot, I am still gaining weight even though I excercise and eat normally like I have been the past 2 years I still GAIN GAIN GAIN. I catch colds more easily now, It gets harder to get up in the morning cause I feel like fainting. It's bad! They should NOT be giving this to people. (I'm a teenager btw.)

  • I just got off depo and I been on it 11 years. I gained no weight and had no unpleasant side effects and after coming off now still have no side effects. In the first year of course my period was bullshit lol but thats pretty normal. Depo is diff for everyone an shouldnt be categorized for everyone as being bad my experience was great. PS ima Ginger i dunno if that makes a diff or not.

  • I was on Depo 5 years ago and had very bad reactions to it. I only got 2 injections. I still can't loose the 30+ lbs I gained. Depo ruined my life :(

  • been on depo for over 7 years, had no periods at all, no problems wot so ever

  • WOW! Well the doctors didnt tell me to take calcium pills. instead they told me it was the safest method in the world to take to not get pregnant... But, i did get pregnant on it... and have had many stomach problems ,,, and years and yeaRS LATER since i havent been on it that seem to never go away.. side effects:

    no sex drive

    long strenuous periods

    crazy feelings and thoughts

long term problems THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH RESEARCH DONE ON THIS DRUG! Some side effects never go away..

  • THERE IS RARELY ENOUGH RESEARCH TO PREVENT THE DISABILITIES ANTIBIOTICS CREATE IN OTHERS. ANTIBIOTICS CAN MAKE YOU TIRED PERMENANTLY. SEE THE NIGHTMARE PFZER CREATED BUT DOES NOT FEEL RESPONSIBLE FOR IN MY VIDEOS 5. TERRAMYCIN 1 (OXYTETRACYCLINE-AN ANTIBIOTIC) (SOMEWHAT FUNNY) AND 10. TERRAMYCIN 2 (DEFINITELY FUNNY). ALSO, IN CHINESE, CROATION, FRENCH, KOREAN, ROMANIAN, UKRANIAN, AND SPANISH.

  • OMG... I HAVE A STORY THAT HAD TO BE TOLD AND I MADE AN AWESOME VIDEO ABOUT THE DEVIL OF A DRUG IN A SYRINGE.... EWWWW WATCH OUT FOR THIS SHOT!!! OMG

  • JUST SAY NO TO DEPO!!!

  • uhh it worked perfectly for me for 1year but now iam starting to get sceptical and worriedabout the shot now because now the doctors are'nt saying it takes 2 hours anymore now its 3 ,5,7 or 2weeks im like wt when i first started on it they were telling me 24 hours....:(

  • we outta man date that all african americans get this shot

  • @chevymadman5 What?

  • @chevymadman5 We "outta" mandate that assholes like you get it.

  • I was on Depo for almost 6 years straight!!! yep and NEVER had a problem intill the 4th year.. I started gaining weight slowly till I was 70 pounds heavier with no change in eating habits.. now.. there is a possiblity my own bodies chemicals changed.. but then again it doent run in my family to have large amounts of weight at that age so drasticly... so I dont know.. everyones different cause my sister tryed it and it made her bleed for 3 months straight!!!! good luck

  • To people saying Depo is "awesome": is it going to just as awesome when even years after youre off it, youre teeth are falling out? When you're breaking bones? When you get cervical/breast cancer? Is it going to be super awesome then? Read up on it, seriously. My doctor told me NOTHING about it and now I'm suffering. I say this cause I care. Think twice, please!

  • My doc didn't tell me much about it either. It's still too early to see if it affects me too drastically to do anything about it. Fingers crossed!

  • Depo Provera is perfect but the onli thing i hate about it is that it made me gain

20+lbs as soon as i got on it. =[

  • The Depo shot is awesome. Let's be honest -- there are a lot of dumb women out there who aren't going to take the pill regularly and on time, and Depo has prevented a lot of unwanted pregnancies, which in turn has prevented a lot of bad family situations.

Saying Depo sucks is dumb, because it's just progesterone, and all birth control has progesterone.

Complaining that it takes 3 months to get pregnant after Depo is totally ignorant. THAT'S THE POINT IN GETTING THE SHOT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

  • Your dumb. Depo is fannnnnntastic

  • Just becareful sweetpea because we don't have any reason to be lying to you. It effects people in different ways and please take calcium pills so you don't get osteroparosis.

  • I've had 2 depo injections now for my endometriosis, my next one is June 22nd, but after reading what other women have experienced when taking the depo, i am now thinking that i should come off it before it gets any worse, cause i have experienced the same problems as some of the women that have complained about, like joint pains, abdominal pain nearly every day, weight gain, feeling tired, low energy and very low sex drive.

  • Really? Low energy and abdominal pain no offence but that makes me feel so much better. I've been getting really bad abdominal pains and in wierd places DOWN THERE in there but in different spots. I am coming off the depo now, I used to have very thick hair that would be up with two ties on a scrunchie now it takes 6!!! And I've been bleeding so much. I bleed for 3 weeks a month after I got it and now have been bleeding for about a month & today was the last day I could get it and AM NOT!!

  • Ladies, every single woman has slightly different hormonal makeup, and as such we all react differently to different BC's. You really can't take someone else's word for it, you just have to try different kinds until you find the one that doesn't make you absolutely crazy/sick. And plus, you have to give your body time to adjust to the new meds. It's really all just a gamble!

  • I was on the shot for 3 yrs after i had my son in 2005. I had heavy bleeding for 6 plus months then off and on for about a year and half then after i'd been on it for 2 year i stop bleeding completely then i decided to try to have another baby and i was never told that it might take awhile to get pregnant after u stop if i had knew that i would have stop long before this. So the side effect i had were bleeding, 10 pound wieght gain, and decreased sex drive. I would never take depo again.

  • ive been on it for 4 yrs and im thinking about getting off of it because i have decreased orgasms.

  • ive been taking depo for almost a year now and at first i thought it was the greatest thing ever...but just recently ive noticed that all my health problems (joints swelling up, bloody nose's, unusual allergic reactions) started right after my first injection...my doctor doesnt believe depo could be the cause but it all points to it...depo has ruined my life basically bc of it i have missed out on my childs life alot bc i cant move or im in the hospital....i wouldnt recommand useing depro.

  • I just went on Depo pravera shot and i am geting my sec shot soon. but they warnd me the side efects and my mom but with me its try the shot and save my future becuas patchs and pills dident work and befor age 15 had 4 surgeys and This may actulie be merical to me even if some day i may have to adoptd i trund 15 the past week and i am hopeing this is hope i dont have to have surgey agin due to get sevraly sick with ovrain cyst in hospilt.

  • i got the injection because i had twins (unlanned) 4 months ago. im only 22 and dont want any more children yet!! i got the shot 7 weeks ago and havent stopped bleeding since, only for maybe 4 days. i know it takes a while for your system to adjust but this cant be good for you...im going to the doc tomorrow

  • I have been on the depo twice over the last few years, having three shots each three months both times. The first time i lost weight but bled extremely heavily for the whole nine months i was on it. The second time (it runs out on the 23rd april and in NOT repeating it again) i put on 18kg (about 40lb?) over 6 months and another 3kg over the last 2 months. I keep putting it on no matter what. I cant take the pill, ive tried an iud and it came out. Where the solution for me lies i dont know!!

  • depo absolutely sucks!!! it doesnt work. i got pregnant while being on it. and no, i didnt do anything wrong, i never took medication to cancel it out, i never missed a shot, it just didnt work! worthless crappy injection.

  • but they say it; you might not be able to conceive for 9 months (or a bit more)after you stop....

It's no suprise... But are you sure that all these are due to Depo provera?

I'm suprised that you started at 14, because most of the time the doctor will not give it to you unless you really have no options letf

  • my sister is 11 and she has to take it for medical purposes, something abouh her period too early, so they want to stop it completely...

  • That's the reason I have to take it...Well, I'm older than eleven but i have menstrual problems. But the injection has given me some bodily pain...

  • I think it's irresponsible that a doctor gave you Depo when it's known to cause bone density issues. It's not for women whose bones are under developed. You should look into the pill to help regulate your menstruation.

  • @S0XF0X UMMM thats why they theyre supposed to tell you to take calcium supplements daily also. Their are easy ways to prevent being screwed up when you are finally done with Depo, like people are saying all BC's have side effects that can suck. the pill was honestly krap for me, it actually made me bleeding worse and the whole reason im on depo is because my periods were so bad that I had to stay home when I was on them cuz I was in so much pain and I bled so much I became iron deficent.

  • SERIOUS!!! DEPO RUINED MY PERFECT RELATIONSHIP! FACT!!

I had severe pain, like a knife going up me everytime me and my boyfriend tried to have sex- we couldn't have sex for 2 years because it was too unbearable for me. I went to see various professionals during this time about the pain i was experiencing and they ALL said it was nothing to do with the injection!!! I had this problem for 2 years!! Now that i've stopped the depo injection the pain has gone away!!!!!

  • Did you and your boyfriend broke up because of that?

  • It can thin your uterus (well known fact) so, depending on the "size" of your boyfriend, it would make sense that intercourse might hurt.

    Depo is not for everyone.

  • @draconravie what exactly are you talkin about?

  • So yeah...I had some heavy bleeding, but after my second shot everything was fine. My friend had to take a pill with the Depo Provera for 2 weeks to stop the bleeding, but everything was fine after that. You have to wait for your body to get use to it.

So...Stop saying bad stuff about, all it's gonna do it mess up other woman who might need to take it (or try it)

If your doctor tells ya that it might be good for you, try it, you dont ahve anything to lose.

  • I agree, Depo is WONDERFUL and I wish i'd begun taking it years ago. I've not had a period since I had my first injection and i've actually lost weight.

The statistics show most women only put on a couple of lb's per year when on depo, so the woman here who claim they've ballooned in size must be having trouble keeping their hands out of the cookie jar...

  • @joannepsi I've had no bleeding or pain. No weight gain. What a lot of people here are failing to mention is that ALL forms of bc have side effects. You're interferring with the natural systems of your body no matter what you do. Expect some unintended consequences! Many women like depo because it doesn't contain estrogen either.

I'm just saying that if you've had a dreadful experience and want to warn others, great. But don't lump all of us together & proclaim it's no good for ANYONE.

  • @SilverDoe6 thank you so much for your review! i just got the shot two days ago and since then have read nothing but horror stories about it so its nice to actually hear a positive instead of a negative to calm my nerves :)

  • Calm down, everything has his own way to affect you. It's normal that a contraceptive gives you some side effect, it jsut means that it wasnt good for you. You just have to change. The same thing happened to women who took the pill...the patch...etc

So please, stop making such a mess about it. For some woman, its great (like for me and my friend) We dont have he choice to take it (cant take oestogene) We had some side effects, but they go away after the second shot (sometimes the third one)

  • a complete cup size, from a small C to a large D, and are extremely tender. Touching them at all hurt. I am in the same situation as you with everything else but... the side effects didn't really hit me till my 4th shot. There are many hidden side effects to this contriceptive that you have to serch VERY hard to find. I am in constant pain. I can't sleep at night. I have no libido at all and have 3 week long, painful periods. I have swelling and pain in my joints. Also much much more.

  • I've lost over 14lbs since I started Depo 6 months ago, I haven't had any periods (which is awesome as I have PCOS), I don't get PMS anymore and I have had no side effects whatsoever.

Depo doesn't agree with every woman, just like the pill. I've had some pills that REALLY messed me up.

For me, Depo has been a Godsend.

  • Did it decrease facial hair growth? I have PCOS also.

  • My Doctor put me on a pill called " Provera" is that the same thing as depo provera???

  • It made me gain around 30 pounds in 1.5 years and I was a very fit person before that. It took a year to snap back into a bikini without looking flabby because I was a gymnast and normal at the gym and went off of BC for a year and practiced abstinence. I don't trust it.

  • I registered for youtube just to post this comment. I took this shot Oct 2. It is Jan 27, 2009 and I have not stopped HEAVILY bleeding, to the point that I have become anemic. I cry all the time, have huge mood swings, irritability, intense stomach cramping, blinding headaches and periodic blackouts from all the pain. I am always dizzy and exhausted.

Depo-Provera has basically ruined my life as I knew it. I used to be active and happy. Please don't take this shot. Learn from my mistake.

  • I had my first and only shot of DP to combat my Endometreosis on April 21 and bled daily (sometimes gushing very heavily with major blood clots) from the shot. I had a full hysterectomy (sp?) just last Saturday (June 13) to finally stop the bleeding. I'm home from the surgery now, recovering from a major operation that I didn't think that I'd need for at least a few more years.

  • It's not for everyone. Find something else to try if it's not working for you. Be thankful you only lost three months of normality.

  • You're not going to be appy about this but I found it worked brilliantly, for me. I had not problems such as any of you have described. I was on it for 14 years (since I was 21) Now I've been taken of it I have all the problems that came with periods, you name it I suffered it. Which was why I was put on the injection. Now I have endometreosis and I'm facing hysterectomy surgery.

  • This is very true. I gained 10 pounds while on the shot for 3 months straight. If you dont know, you better ask somebody. I got off the shot and am still in detox. I have since lost 5 pounds, where as before while on the shot no matter what I did, I would only gain weight. I suggest, use it as a last resort, if you cant get or take other forms of BC. PLEASE DONT DO IT!!STAY AWAY FROM DEPO!!!!

  • I HATE THIS SHOT! I had came into this womens clinic asking about birth control, and since I had bad heart palpitations at that time, the MD suggested I take somethin with no estrogen, well lo and behold I took the shot one time and after looking more into it, I saw one of the side effects are palpitations, go figure. Not only that Ive been bleedin/spottin for 2 months after the shot. I didn't go take my 2nd and its been day 4 and it seems like my spotting is going away, hopefully it get normal.

  • I'm due to have my 3rd shot on the 29th December and I don't think it's that bad, it's messed my periods up, had small headaches and belly cramps but other than that it's ok.. it affects different women in different ways.

  • i hate depo i only had it once and my doctor made me believe that i wouldnt have any periods i actually ended up losing a lot of weight and i ended up bleeding the whole 3 months while on it and 2 1/2 after the 3 now im trying to have a baby and i think the depo messed me up so i suggest to any one if u want kids within the next two years dnt get the shot

  • My second shot is supposed to be coming up this week, but after hearing what happens after you get off it, i don't want it anymore... i missed my first months period, and the second month i spotted for two and a half weeks, and i've just started spotting again. My partner also brought up the point that he doesn't think stopping your period is healthy. I've also already gained weight and can't loose it.

  • i cant believe in america you have to pay for these sort of things, anything like this, the pill, coil, patch for example is free in UK. I was thinking about the patch, does anyone have any advice?

  • My advice is don't take any of these hormonal BC Poisons. They all can have serious complications and can cause death. At least 27 people have died on the patch and many more have had debilitating strokes. Also, these hormonal bc methods can cause a chemical abortion unknowingly to the mother. They do this be not letting the embryo (i.e Human Being) implant in the uterus, therefore starving the little boy or girl to death. Be good to yourself and practice abstinence, then you wont have to worry.

  • @pinkelephant93 Yeah, we actually have to work to earn things.

  • My doctor suggested Depo-Provera to help with painful periods+Symptoms of PMT which in my'normal'cycle started roughly 2 weeks before my period, symptoms included worsening of depression and mood swings, with the Depo, they accured a month before the next one was due,so I stopped the injections, this was 5 weeks ago,and since, have had what feels like constant PMT and have not had a proper period, do not know when It will end, or how long cycle will get back to normal, anyone experience the same?

  • My doctor made it look like this great thing, no period, no remembering everyday like the pill. I don't even want a second shot. I have constant headaches, I also bled for 2 weeks, and have had two periods in one month. Constant fatigue and feeling faint. Its been horrible.

  • I have been on it for 8 years with no poblems.. I thought. I love not having periods and dont want kids. I now have switched insurances and have a new obgyn. She said I had to get an xray I have discovered I have a little bone loss but can be fixed by getting off of depo. Now they are talking about Mirana and that has major side effects. I am mad that planned parenthood said i was ok and now i learned you are not allowed to take depo more than 3 yars! This sucks!!!Gues I am getting tubes tide.

  • i had the shot i quick after it eat the tissue in my leg then i got a cyst on my ovary and i still havent had my peride and a year

  • i wish i had listen when i watched the video the first time i thout you where crazy. now i beleve you ive gaid 10 pound but looks like 50 my butt got big my stomach everything dont fit me. my first shot was wearing off and had these really bad cramps like i was in labor and got nose bleeds never in my life i had 1 the doctor told me i was normal so he gave me the second shot now i got even more fat i look ugly i cant even look in the mirrow no more.i dont even want my husband to look at me.

  • Yomi, if gaining 10 pounds gives you such a personal reaction, you have bigger problems than Depo.

  • does anyone have any tips on how to get it out of your system? i was on it for 1year then i stopped so we could try to conceive and its been a year and my cycles are 14days apart,it really sux-i wish i watched a vid like this before i took the inj.

  • DEPO made me gain crazy weight! lol

  • i love depo because it's worked wonderfully for me. i was on it for 20 months. yes, it takes a few months to end your periods.

the bone loss thing...i'm now on an Implanon and love it. i havnt' had bleeding since november 2006.

    LOVE IT!!!

  • i take this shot and im ok!!! alright it doesnt work for everyone but you dont have to go lecturing people on here!

  • im on depo and im tiny. i have had no weight gain at all. it works differently on everybody so if your considering it find out for yourself !

  • Also Depo causes bone mineral bone loss & ostreoporosis. When i was on it my bones would crack all the time. even if i was just sitting. I went to the doctor and said i think it's depo. they didn't know what it was but kept saying it wasnt. anyways i know my body and it only started on Depo.. I didnt notice anything else and bleeding seased. but i can tell you as soon as i went off Depo lo and behold the cracking stopped.

  • Yes, I'm sure the bone loss reversed AS SOON AS YOU STOPPED DEPO without doing anything like impact exercises and adding calcium and vitamin D... LOL! It's a freakin' miracle, ladies and gents!

  • I just wish they quit giving us these bullshit drugs and feed us lines like "hey you can stop your period with this" and advise us of the risks. Had they said "taking this might result in bone loss and potential issues" i might have said fuckit ill keep my period.

FYI the bone loss is NOT REVERSABLE.

All cuz "you can stop your period"

  • Of course the bone loss is reversible if you're young enough and in relatively good health.

  • I went to Planned Parenthood...they didn't want to give me the pill because my blood pressure was a little high. They recommended the Depo Shot. I was great for 3 weeks..then the UN-BELIEVABLY HEAVY bleeding started and didn't stop for 9 weeks...never again. Thank you for creating awareness.

  • I have been taking the Depo Provera shot for the last 6-1/2 years. It has stopped my period, and has been the absolute best choice I made for myself regarding birth control.

Doctors DO NOT recommend this form of birth control BEFORE having children because it stops your body from producing eggs and getting your period every month. For me it was easy - I had my kids - felt I was done. I have not gained ANY weight, I do have breast tenderness, but I have had excellent results.

  • OK I take the Depo shot and nothing has happend to me... The doctor told me that the shot actually stops your period and that the side affect is gaining 5lbs. every year... is this true??? I used to weigh 111 but in just 3 months I gained 5 lbs. So I'am at 115 is this normal???

  • OMG, I have the same problem has Noosa1978. It totally sucks. i hate depo! does anybody know how long does it takes for the effect to go away , I mean like to be normal again??

  • ive been on teh injection, only had it once, i had it october lasst year, and i started bleeding since november and is now bleeding. I have been admitted to hospital, now i have to have tests done on me, ive had an MRI scan done. Due to the injection my white blood cell count is permantly low. I have to have blood tests every week now. I even have to have a lumber puncture. DO NOT TAKE, IM IN THE PROCESS OF SUeing

  • You had an extremely bad experience with the injection, and I want you to know alot of people do. Please take care of yourself, prayers to you in getting well again. Go to a nutritionist to get back on track and help your body to become strong again. Unlike you the Depo shot has been great - I started after my 2nd child was born. I didn't want any more pregnancies so I felt I made the right choice. I don't feel it's a good choice for birth control before having kids. Get well soon XOXOXOXOXOXO

  • I am scared that I will not be able to have children because I took this poison that my mom force me to take. I am still sick from it.

  • I have also and till this day still suffer the side effects of Depo. I am always tired, moody, painful and heavy periods, and I cant lose weight. In fact, since I took Depo I keep gain weight. Before I went on Depo, I energetic, skinny, and never had health issues.

  • I am sorry to hear about what you've went through with Depo. You're not the only person I've heard say this about Depo. None for me!

  • I plan on making a vid. similar to yours once i get a cam. I too have suffered alot from depo im 18 and have been on it almost 2yrs and im NOT going back for my next im reading "TCOYF" and i LOVE it and will only do NON-Hormonal methods from now on! Thanks for your concern for other women,KEEP IT UP!!

  • My doctor would never recommend Depo for an eighteen year old - that's a big no no. My doctors advised me it was the type of birth control for after having children and knowing that you do not want anymore children, so you can prevent this from happening. Depo has been a god send for me - I have suffered with other birth control methods - the pill- and wake up with morning sickness, when I'm not pregnant, acne, felt like I was getting my period all month. There is something for everyone.

  • Thats Good it worked for you!...i've been off for Deprovera for 3 1/2 months now!...im SO HAPPY,i've lost weight,my skin has cleared up and looks more lively,I have more energy,I'm NOT bloated anymore the list goes on and on....But its nice your happy on it.

  • I'm sorry you had such a rough time with the injection, that's what happened to me when I took the pill. God I was so sick, bloated, moody, had acne, and yes the list also goes on. I would only recommend the injection to people who have had a family already and choose not to have anymore children. That's my main reason for taking the shot - I do not want to chance getting pregnant again. Pregnancy and I do not get along - sick for the entire 9 months - but the dr's make it 10 months they're evil
